Thanks and blesings... I-m going to try.

If worse comes to worse, I-ll send the lineto my friend and ask her to copy and paste it herself.

I might be guiding her over the phone, instead of using Teamviewer, so we-ll be sure things don-t get mixed up more than they already are.

Ciao, I-ll let youknow how it goes.

My guess is this is an instance of #9039. To avoid a lot of back and forth, let's assume it is; if it's not, no harm done.

1. Run the COM Registration Fixing Tool, follow its prompts, and reboot just for good measure. If it fixed it, then great, nothing to worry about and you can stop here.

However if that didn't fix it (which I doubt it would), please do the following, assuming you have an installed copy of NVDA 2019.3 or higher:
1. Press windows+r to open the run dialog.
2. Type nvda
3. Press control shift enter and answer yes to the prompt that appears to run as administrator.
4. When NVDA restarts, open the python console either with NVDA+CTRL+z or in the tools menu.
5. Paste this long line in and hit enter. If you're using teamviewer, I'm not sure how you get the clipboard across; maybe it does it automatically.

import comtypes,ctypes;p=comtypes.typeinfo.LoadTypeLibEx(r"c:\windows\syswow64\oleacc.dll");ctypes.windll.oleaut32.RegisterTypeLib(p,r"c:\windows\syswow64\oleacc.dll", None)

If it says traceback, then the line didn't work, and it may have been pasted incorrectly. In that case, come back here and we'll figure out why.

6. Restart NVDA. Things should work again. If they don't, try rebooting.

That isn’t the starting point, though the add-on should be installed.  These are classic signs that certain dll files are not registered.  Run the dll registration tool in the tools menu..  If you don’t know how to find it, ask.

And, wouldn't expect it to behave that badly, but, that would be my starting point.

Applying the "Com registration tool" might help fixing that.
from NVDA menu then tools submenu, you'd find it there.
If it didn't work
Try to turn off NVDA and use narrator to "run NVDA as administrator"
and see if that would work.
If it does re install NVDA as admin by using the "run as
administrator" on the NVDA installer file.

Hi,

One possible explanation (and I found myself troubleshooting it on my own installation): corrupted add-on configuration file (yet again). To fix this:

  1. Open NVDA user configuration folder (you can do this from Start search box and typing “explore NVDA”).
  2. Delete a file named “remote.init”.
  3. Restart NVDA.

Cheers,

Ah ok, yes I see.

Ok so to adjust the speech rate, first manually activate the profile, and then simply set the speed to what you want for say all.  Once you're done, manually deactivate the profile.  You can't use the synth settings ring while actually reading with say all.

Quentin.

I understand this logic behind, but anyway is it possible to embed some delay before fall back to original profile or other solution so we can save some time or I'm doing something wrong?

Re: changing reading speed on the fly in say all profile

Quentin Christensen

That sounds like it should work (you don't specifically need to be in Word, you can edit the say all profile from anywhere)  When you created the profile and linked it to say all, did you manually activate it?  When you associate it with the say all trigger and try to OK, it states that and offers to manually activate it so you can edit it - as long as you did that and hadn't deactivated it before adjusting the speech rate, it should work.  Even if you have a profile for the specified program, when you press NVDA+down arrow / NVDA+a it should use the say all profile.

I had the same problem after installing Dropbox. In Word, a window with the title “Dropbox” was coming. After pressing the Alt key, and press ESC.

Probably a program you installed on your computer has installed the plug-in for MSWord.

Re: Elements List not working correctly in Slack

Quentin Christensen

Hi Martin,

The vast majority of Slack's interface is buttons and clickables, and really no links at all, except for in specific messages.

However, all the messages are within an ARIA application, which means that NVDA does not render this in browseMode, rather when focus goes inside the application, focus mode is used. This also therefore means that those links will not appear in NVDA's elements list.

The exception to this is when arrowing down to a particular message and then pressing tab, focus moves inside a document specific to the current message, and therefore browseMode can be used, though bounded only to that message content. Within this particular subdocument, NVDA's elements list can be used, and any links in that specific message will be listed.

The ARIA application around the message list was introduced sometime last year in the Slack app, so none of that is new, unless you happened to be using an old version of the app until just recently?

Regards

Quentin.

Re: NVDA and MS word

Quentin Christensen

It quite possibly would but it is probably also overkill :)

In your Word options (ALT+F then T) if you CONTROL+TAB down to "Add-ins", have a look on that screen and see what's there.  If you've got software you know has Word plug-ins, they'll be listed here.  There are probably other things you might or might not have specifically added but come with other programs like OneNote, or FoxIt Reader.

Looking at mine, there are a few random things I don't recognise like Date XML.  So just because you don't recognise something there, doesn't mean it's causing problems - although it's worth being aware of anything which is running while Office is running just because it could be slowing things down (Apparently my Date XML and a few others relate to some kind of office smart tag functionality which evidently is built-in to Office).

Otherwise, as Brian suggested, a screenshot might help here - if you press NVDA+T to read the title bar on that message, what does it say?  And can you navigate around it (arrows, tab, etc)?

Nevzat, it appears you're getting some sort of message, likely from
Microsoft Word itself. I seriously doubt this has anything to do
w/NVDA, really, other than the fact that NVDA is announcing it. It
would be good if you could ascertain what that window is saying.

Are you able to take a screenshot of that window, upload it somewhere, and post the link to it here?   It's really impossible to give any guidance without knowing what, precisely, is going on in that window.  If it won't read the contents to you that's even more critical.  What you're describing is not something I've encountered before.
