I don't know why NVDA always defer reporting the TrayTip notification.

For example,
Now I am editing the email to send to you,
If I press ctrl alt h to bring up the menue and selected clear m3u file,
NVDA will say something like
composing email, and read the title of Thunderbird, and read the current line in focus, then read the notification.

I would like NVDA to read it immediately, do you know any way to fix this?
Thanks.

Re: Urgent help needed NVDA was not able to loa Microsoft SAPI 5

Hi,
I try to make NVDA clean without addons and here is the log.

The fact is, if I run narrator, Microsoft Anna works well with narrator.

Quentin Christensen 於 8/11/2019 14:09 寫道:

If you have another SAPI 5 voice installed, NVDA might try to load that first.  If there is a problem with that (eg if it's a SAPI 5 that's locked to another program) then it could cause problems.  From your log, it looks like it's trying to load Microsoft Anna though so that's not the problem.  I'd be interested in seeing a log with add-ons disabled.

I did a Google search for something like repair SAPI5 and I found results discussing how to do so.  If you have questions about the safety or reliability of information or recommended utilities on various sites, you might want to ask before trying something.  it is a good idea to be careful if a site offfers something for download to solve a problem and not to download and run it unless you are confident the site is safe and the program or utility is not malicious.

SAPI is a Microsoft API for communicating with synthesizers that use it.  So contacting Microsoft might get you the solution.  I was hoping someone might have known about the repair utility, but so far, there hasn't been any information.

But the SAPI 5 that I cannot load is the Microsoft SAPI5.

How could I deal with that?

Contact Microsoft?

Gene 於 8/11/2019 1:53 寫道:
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the actual synthesizer program, as well as making sure files that may be left after the uninstallation are removed before reinstalling?  Also, I recall, many years ago, seeing something about a way to repair SAPI 5.  Perhaps others may know more.  I think it was a utility but I don't recall much of anything except that that may be the case.

Also, you can contact the place where you got the synthesizer and ask about the problem as well as how to repair SAPI 5.

Hi,
The error message is
Synthesizer error
Could not load the sapi5 synthesizer.

I have tried:
1. restore NVDA default setting
2. reinstall some SAPI 5tts

And they failed.

Quentin Christensen 於 7/11/2019 15:27 寫道:
I wouldn't immediately jump to reinstalling Windows just yet.

Can you use eSpeak NG?  Also can you give us the exact error you get when you try to load a SAPI 5 synthesizer?  Have you installed, updated or uninstalled anything recently?

The log didn't make it through - they can't be sent to the list, but you can send it to me offlist at info@... if you like.

If it's a language issue, if you open NVDA's general settings (assuming you can still use any of NVDA?) can you set the language to English instead of default?  And if that works, it might be worth checking what your Windows language is set to just in case that has changed.

Quentin

Hi,

Very annoying to me.

Today I wake up to find that my NVDA suddenly doesn't speak English.

If I try to set Microsoft SAPI 5 as the speach engine, NVDA display
error message that the speech synth was not able to load.

The problem also exist if I try to load RH voice.

For details, I have included in the log file here.

I am very very upset now. Could any one offer me a fix for it. Many thanks.

Hi.  If you have a keyboard with a specialized context menu key, then it is one key to the left of the right control key.  The alternative is to press shift+f10.  Cheers!

Hello,

Yes, you can. The principle is the same as for tiles in the Start menu and maybe some other places in Windows 10. And that is: Focus an item that you want to move and then use Alt+Shift+Arrow keys to move the item. Note, that the items are placed in a grid with 4 items in a row and down and right moves the item to the right and on the next row eventually and left and up moves the item to the left and on the previous row eventually. Also note, that at least for me, NVDA does not announce the movement of the items (Narrator does). When you're done, tab to the "Done" button and activate it to save your settings. If you don't want to save your changes, press ESCAPE to just dismiss the editing window. Another note: the label of the "Done" button seams to be different for screen readers, but it is the one before the one for adding items to the quick actions panel.

______
Best wishes,

Re: NVDA+Outlook, and number of new messages

Cordelia Scharpf

Many thanks, Cearbhall, for that tip. The screen reader I have been using
for years displays such information right away when I open Outlook. I guess
I will have to do some learning when switching to NVDA as my primary screen
reader.

Best regards,
Cordelia

Cordelia,

Close all open emails and make sure that your cursor is resting on any
closed message in the current folder.
Press control+Shif+tab to opens the "Folder List". NVDA announces "Folder
List minimised".
Press space bar to expand the list.
Arrow down to the folder you want.
Note that NVDA speaks the number of messages contained in the folder after
giving the folder name.

You can also open the Folder List by using control+y but this view of the
list does not show the number of emails contained in each folder.

All the best,

Cearbhall

Hi:

I am looking for a method in NVDA to determine the number of new messages
arriving in Outlook's in-box, spam folder, and junk mail. Does NVDA offer
such info without my having to arrow up and down each list in each folder?
Thanks.

Hi,
As a follow-up: I’ll do some digging into making NVDA announce drag and drop operations for this grid and tiles in the future.

Hi All,

under Windows 10 settings -> system -> Action Center it is possible to re-order the quick action buttons.

I think sighted users are doing this via drag and drop. Is there a simple way to do it with the keyboard and NVDA?

Thanks and best regards

Oh, okay. When I was on the advanced Jaws list. People complained that opera was not very user friendly.  I never tried it I thought it was for deep coding! I guess it got better as time went on. I never seen questions about it in windows 7. Not until now.

Is your NVDA running in Laptop layout?

In any case, you can always change default hotkeys in input gestures dialog in preferences menu.

Its another way of copying to the clipboard.  Remember, I said to use shift plus movement keys.  and you don't have to use the context menu.  Shift down arrow and then use control c.

I made my last comments in the below message in case you don't have NVDA set to display only one link on a line and if there is more than one link on the line you are working with.  You can use the home shift end method for copying a full line of text.

Copy the Windows way.  I'm assuming you have NVDA set to show one link on one line.  Home, shift end, control c.  You only have to use the insert f9 insert f10 method in places where no cursor or virtual cursor is present, such as in a dialog.

However you have links set to display, go to the first letter of the link, and move through it holding the shift and use whatever movement commands you want, end, the right arrow key, etc.
