Re: nvda not routing correctly?

Gene

You might try this.  After you move to an item you want to route to, try the command JAWS key f5.  That probably won't help at all, but you never know.

I don't know why you have this problem and I never have problems routing when browse mode is on.  When I move somewhere in browse mode, turn it off, and route, it often doesn't work correctly.  If you are in browse mode, I don't know why you have this problem.  I'll add that I use an old version of NVDA because I like how it works better in one or two programs I use a lot and I don't need or use newer features so I don't know if new or recent versions would have this problem for me.  I may try the current or a recent version and compare.

Thank you to  the Acapela Group for updating their Speech Engine  for NVDA to 1.6. It is working very well with NVDA 19.3 and python 3. I use the Karen Speech Voice with Acapela.

Re: My addons collection

I agree also there is blind extra in this collection which is actually quite bad.

There is this ibm viavoice addon, I have not seen that before.

Well actually I found it but only the driver is free, not the synth.

Good job trying to get it.

Vox syn for linux seems to be the only one with the libraries so maybe I wll try and see if I can fiddle with this and demo it later.

Re: Observations with ETI eloquence add on.

Ofcourse, you can buy the addon from codefactory which in fact is not that expensive given the fact that NVDA is free for charge.
Or you use the old addon but install IBM TTS on top according to this tutorial:

nvda v2019.2.1 gives the feedback as expected.

a "." is spoken emedeately. Other "words" are spoken on space or at the keypress of such special characters.

In V2019.3.1 special characters still trigger speaking of words, but are not spoken themselves.

This should be fixed as soon as possible as typing in word mode is no longer manageable.

Hi Martin,

Have you restarted the computer since you updated NVDA?  I just tried type a. with speak typed characters on, and NVDA read "A dot" just as you expected.  I don't have Eloquence, but it worked the same with eSpeak and with Windows OneCore voices.

Occasionally you get random bugs (such as this) after installing or updating the software but before restarting the computer.  Restarting the computer shuts everything down and loads again from scratch so usually fixes up these random on-off issues.

Also double check that you have speak typed characters on as well :)

Kind regards

Quentin.

normally special characters and punctuation was spoken emedeately on

feedback: a dot

this is very problematic as you now do not get any feedback on typed

Tried that with eloquence and espeak. So the speech/voice does not matter.

Hope this can be fixed

and additionally I would suggest to add a option/choice to choose wether
special characters (and numbers) should be spoken emedeately on their

nvda not routing correctly?

I'm using 19.2 but I have the same issue with 19.3. When I'm on a discord page, a page. in firefox, a page in google chrome, a non web app etc? I cannot route correctly. I have to use object navigation to have it route, then and only then when I hit nvda shift m will it begin to route and I will hear that the routing took place and I can right click the heading etc. Is this a setting I changed somewhere, maybe?

Subject: [nvda] Youtube - how to navigate

Hi, my wife has low vision and depends on NVDA to navigate. Most of the use is in Youtube.

Apparently, something is not working as previously with the mouse pointer. When watching a video in Youtube, she used to move the mouse to the videos listed on the right side of the Youtube page and click on the mouse, to go to the next or another video. NVDA would read the content of the videos...

Now, the cursor when you move to the videos on the right, a hand pointer is shown, so NVDA says  "Cursor unknown", so it does not read what the title of the video is.

Is there a way to resolve this hand pointer of the mouse and change it to the standard cursor, so NVDA could read it correctly ?

If not, then what would be the Keys to use to navigate inside Youtube ?

I am not an expert in NVDA, so bear with me folks...

thanks,

Reinaldo

When you open youtube with a video following hotkeys are valid, but sure you go in focus mode when you enter the pade with NVDA-space:

K – stops/starts the video

F – go to full screen or back to normal screen

Shift-n – go to the next video

Shift-v – go to the previous video

Arrow up and down – raise or lower the youtube volume

There are some other hotkeys and you can find them by entering “shortcuts youtube” in google. Don’t forget they only work when in focus mode.

Cheers,

  Ralf

Punctuation Symbols Changing Pronounciations

David Ouimet

Hi, I was able to change tick to apostrophe in the Punctuation Symbol Pronounciation  preference setting. There is quite a few steps when wanting to change the sound of a symbol or punctuation, so to change all the ones I wanted I did it editing the symbol.dic file manually. Could the way of changing the sounds be simplified, so new users would find it much easier.

I think that would be a great help for many.

Thanks, David Ouimet

Re: Observations with ETI eloquence add on.

I completely confirm everything Sue is experiencing, except that the
SAPI5 Eloquence does not exhibit this behavior, while the directly
supported Eloquence Add-on does.

Hello am noticing some things when I did update to the latest ETI
Eloquence add on that works with NVDA 2019.3. Sometimes whenever am I

have to restart NVDA. It has happened to me for the past week and at
least seven times a day it is driving me crazy. I don't know who is
behind this but it could use some help in getting stuff straightened
out. I also noticed whenever I raise the pitch to a percentage in the
speech settings it does not do anything when I come a across a capital
letter it does not do that. I also noticed in the Sapi 5 eloquence
driver as well. In the old add on I did not notice anything like this.
I am not a developer am just an average home user so if anyone has a
email address so I can contact who works on the add on maybe I could
contact them and let them know what I am noticing. Thank you.

Re: Donation Too nerve wracking

Hi

I agree with this.  I have been using speech to access computers since the early 1980s so I can in no way be considered a newby or beginner but even so my fingers walk very softly over the keys while making donations.  There is just something anxiety provoking about the way the page is set out. There is almost a "hard sell" feel to the page which I dislike.

This may be just a personal problem with my skills but I have avoided regular donating, as was my previous practice with the last couple of NVDA updates because of difficulties with the NVDA Donation page.
Today guilt took over as I downloaded the latest update to 19.3 and decided to bite the bullet and try and donate again.
I am afraid that yet again the experience was yet again a bit nerve wracking.
For me the personal problem is that the default donations the page tries to funnel me towards are far too expensive for me. These high default options especially on a regular basis provide some anxiety.
Even the other amount field is unhelpfully filled with a $200 amount which I inadvertently nearly processed with my PayPal and was only then able to rescue from my one touch PayPal page with a rapid page closure.
Rattled I then tried to enter a measly $10 as a safe test amount only to realise that this time I was about to commit $10200 to NVDA Access.
In the end I was able to retrieve the situation and only donate $10 which is less than I would normally donate but was based on my profound nervousness with the page.
It just seems to me that this page should be easy for everybody to use , no matter what their skill level, a simple safe process for people to donate whatever amount they feel comfortable in doing.
I am sure that most people , certainly on this list, will not share these problems and deny any difficulties but I wonder how true this is for generalised NVDA users across the globe.
This funnelling of people toward larger default payments may be worth it in the larger scheme it generates more income I suppose but it does seem odd to me and has acted as a disincentive to donate personally.
