In the last few days, I have noticed a change in how nvda reads in Outlook 2016. It used to say unread, read the subject, then it read the author.

It has now started saying “no associated drafts” before reading anything else about the message. What can I do to change this?

Some issues coming between Google Chrome and NVDA

Dejan Ristic

Both the previous and the current version of Chrome have decreased some accessibility features as far as Facebook and Google Translate are concerned.

When I type in the search field what I wish to find on Facebook, I am no longer able to hear the list of the items found when I use the up and down arrows to go through them after I have typed my search term. NVDA only pronounces my search term when I up and down, but does not show the list of the items found as it did before. Compare Mozilla Firefox with Chrome, and all will be clear. The same goes for the Opera browser.

As for Google Translate, it is impossible for me to choose between the list of the source and target languages. The only NVDA-output pronounciation is: "list submenu expanded" and "list submenu collapsed". The same goes for the Opera browser.

When I handle it by Mozilla Firefox, I succeed in choosing between the desired source and target languages. It means that both lists are spoken correctly.

I use the latest version of NVDA, and the latest version of both Chrome and Opera.

My operating system is: Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit.

Allow me to ask you whether you shake hands with the same issues?

Thankful in advance,

Dejan

OK, let's thank. So, I was playing on the laptop, with a client, also known as Quenton's play room, and was playing farkle. For those of you that don't know, its a game in which, you throw the dice, and keep scores, that worth points. Because I felt like it, I bought up window eyes, instead of NVDA. God, that thing didn't read what the person against me rolled, nor it read my list of options. Narrator at least read my options, but it wasn't much better. In other words, if not for NVDA, I couldn't play on it at all. And no, NVDA has absolutely no problems with any of the client.

Then the problem isn't the yes button being disabled evidently. But the level of UAC when a program is installed should have no bearing on how it functions in a program if you change it. UAC is a completely independent feature. You are setting it to notify you according to different conditions UAC can look for, not anything having to do with any specific program.

Hi Gene

In my case NVDA read those dialogs; in fact I heard them so many times,
I almost couldn't handle it anymore. Both the Yes and No buttons were
present, plus a link for more information and another link to change
notification levels. Unfortunately all these controls just made the
dialog loop again.

I have a theory as to what caused this very strange problem I
experienced. I think the UAC security level at the time when NVDA is
installed, determines how NVDA and UAC will interface. Let me try and
explain what I mean with actual examples. On my desktop the security
level is and was 34 when I installed NVDA. NVDA works well, it starts up
fine, no problem, except that it doesn't read the content of the UAC
dialog when permission is requested for something. If I then type alt+y
for yes, all is fine.

On my laptop things are different. The security level was set to 0 when
I installed NVDA. At that level NVDA worked identically as the one on my
desktop. I then pushed up the security level on my laptop to 34. Now,
whenever NVDA was launched, UAC requested permission, but Alt+y did the
trick. Next I moved the level up to 67 and all hell broke loose.

It seems, therefore, to get NVDA on my laptop to operate properly, I
must uninstall it, then shift up UAC level to 67 and then reinstall NVDA
at that level.

I hope this makes sense. This is how things look to me.

Kind regards

Christo

The original message specifically states that whether yes or no is used, NVDA doesn't run and it's a loop that cannot be gotten out of. It appears that this occcurs before anything else can be done. I wonder if yes is even available in the UAC dialog? Some people have a problem in Windows 10 where the yes button disappears from the UAC dialog. If that is true, the problem is not an NVDA problem but some sort of Windows problem. There is a web site that gives what is claimed to be a fix for this, which, I believe, involves running in Safe Mode. I don't know how effective this is. I've seen this discussed on another list.

To find information do an Internet search for something like no yes button UAC dialog Windows 10

I won't provide a specific link because I don't know how many results there are or which might be the best.

To try fire up narrator, are you using the windows key + enter key
combo? Ask since while it's been a while since had anything to do with
it, and probably also depends on where/when UAC is coming up, I did
manage to work around it at least once, quite a while ago like that - as
in UAC came up, but, under normal windows operation mode, I hit windows
key + enter, and it could read the UAC dialogue, to allow me to allow
something else to happen, and then turn off UAC.

Hello Joseph

Ok, I brought the conversation to this list and I have copied our
correspondence below for your reference.

In response to your question, yes, it is an installed copy of the
latest snapshot of NVDA. My problem is that, when I start up the
laptop, it automatically tries to run NVDA and then goes into this
loop; it doesn't matter if I respond with Yes or No. This means I
can't get to do anything on the machine. I thought that, if I could
at least get into the File Explorer, I could delete the NVDA
executable, so that it can't try to open. My goodness, this is such a
mess; I hope you have some advice for me.

Kind regards

Christo

Correspondence below:

Hi,
This is odd indeed...
Is this with an installed copy of NVDA? If so, this should not cause
issues you've described. Sounds like NVDA is trying to run the
installer without realizing that it's already installed (that's one
possibility).
If you don't mind, let's talk about this on the NVDA mailing list.

On my laptop I now moved the level up to 2 (67%), but I got myself
into a strange and very serious situation. When NVDA starts, the UAC
dialog pops up and it is spoken, but I can't get out of it. Whether I
press Yes or No, the dialog keeps coming back. It goes into a loop
and I can't do anything else on my computer. I can't even close NVDA
to get Narrator up to change the UAC level. The dialog keeps coming
back all the time. The computer is absolutely unusable. Do you have
any idea how I can get out of the loop and get to the place where I
can bring down the UAC level again. I really have no idea what to do.
Please help. I hope you can.

Not here, what particular update is it. What synth are you using. Set it to espeak if its something else before the update but save the settings.

If it still has issues you would need to look at the log file from the version which created the error, presumably the new version. Of course if its an actual download error then that could have any number of causes which would need investigating.

Hi Geen

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll test it. As far as your tutorial on Word goes, I’d appreciate it if you can send me a copy. You can mail it to my personal mailing address, Christo.vorster@...

Thanks again

Subject: Re: [nvda] EDITING HEADERS IN OFFICE 2010

Hi Christo

I have the same version of microsoft word. I also tried the same sequence for word 2010, but not the earlier version.

I can confirm what you said for the 2010 version. some times it works and other times it does not. It seems to be on how quick or slow I do it wheather it wants to do it or not.

the word around that seem to work is a couple of extra steps.

Press the ALT key + letter N, then H. This will land you on a bland header. Shift tab a couple of times until you get to the part where it says edit the header then press the enter key make your changes then press enter key then the escape key. Doing it this way I can edit the header and change it if I want to .

I am learning my self how to do it so have been putting together a basic tutorial on using the basics of word and putting in a header and footer and editing them is part of it.

Hopefully the above helps.

I did not try it with a master snapshot it might of been fixed in that?:?

Hi Group

We are using Office 2010 with NVDA 2016.2.1 for training at our college.

We have a problem with editing a header in MS Word. If you press the Office 2010 sequence, ALT, N, H, E, NVDA falls silent. It refuses to speak even after you pressed escape. If you make use of the 2003 sequence, ALT+V, H, there is no problem.

Could someone please assist us?

Thank you and regards

Excel having a major lag when moving in between cells with NVDA

Hello,
I am using the latest version of NVDA and Excel and I am suffering some major lag after doing actions like adding comments with shift+f2 and hitting OK.
The lag is about 1.3 seconds and happens when moving between cells.

Is there any kind of addon that increases the usability of the advanced features of Excel? For example, tables, graphs and charts?
Thanks,

Hi Lino,

I am running Firefox 48 and I have no such problem. I wonder if some sort of tool bar is blocking things.

Hi all. I've got a minor problem. I don't know if any of you on this list have a subscription to MLB Gameday Audio, but in FF 48 I can't move my arrow keys or tab to read the rest of the page once you start playing a game. When I hit the up or down arrow all I get is the URL read. I don't know if this is a flaw in FF 48 or not. I am running master branch of NVDA. If anyone is running NVDA 2016.2 and can play with this that would be great. I figured I'd post about this here before posing the same question to the Firefox support list. Thanks.

Re: NVDA update problem

Hi David,

Yes there was an issue with updating snapshots, our apologies.  If you go to the snapshots page: http://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/ you can download the latest one from there.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi,

I am using NVDA Snapshots, Next branch. Every time I try to update NVDA, I get an error. I was thinking of uninstalling NVDA and reinstalling it to see if it fixes the problem but that would mean I would have to reinstall all my add-ons.

Does anybody else have issues updating NVDA?
