Are you saying it permanently fixed it or only for that one time?  Did you upgrade to Windows 10 with NVDA installed and not reinstall it?  I'm not talking about the upgrade.  I'm talking about upgrading from some other version of Windows.  It has been recommended that NVDA be reinstalled after upgrading.  it solves problems.  I haven't seen this problem discussed in that context but it still may apply.

yep, you can save a NVDA Portable Version and install the portable version
in the other computer and use the profiles.

Desktop app for Skype works fine with NVDA master branch. Skype Preview
also works fine with the new WIN 10 anniversary update.

Hi
could you check the settings of the system cursor. If you type 'cursor'
into cortana you will see where you can set blink rate and thickness. It
may have been altered to values which make it difficult for the screen
reader to track. As a guide, my settings are a blink rate of 63 and a
thickness of 10.

go to nvda preferences object presentation, press enter on it and see
the first two options which are system focus and system caret.
they should be checked.
if they are uncheck, check them with space key.
