Re: Remote Relay server

The relay server is the host that you log into when setting up a remote connection. It would be your own version of nvdaremote.com.

Thanks once more Joseph. I did just that. Result: with no add-ons enabled, everything’s perfect, no crash at all. With only a few add-ons enabled, the crash happens but later in time, about two minutes after logon, and it’s independent of what I am doing. With all add-ons enabled, it happens right after logon, just after NVDA starts for the first time and says “taskbar”. I suppose this is complicated, maybe I should learn to live with it, I’ve bothered you enough already. Thousands of thanks indeed!

Hi Robert,

People have different benefits of running a remote server, some because they're managing a sizable internal network. However, a couple of years ago, nvdaremote.com was quite often offline, and the remote access was a necessity for the work I was doing at the time, so I couldn't aford to not have access for long periods of time. Apologies, I realise now I didn’t tell everything. That crash only happens once after restart. If I try to launch NVDA again, it runs perfectly well without any flaws. But as soon as I restart, it’s first run goes south again, only once. Am I making more sense?

Re: NVDA Systematic Crash
Hi, Before doing that, try running NVDA with add-ons disabled (open Run dialog, type “nvda –disable-addons” without quotes and press Enter provided that NVDA is installed). If NVDA starts, chances are that it might be an add-on or two. Cheers, Joseph

Sarah, That site does seem to work, however to check the errors, it takes you to Grammarly and want to set that up - last time I tried that Grammarly itself was completely inaccessible, has it changed?

In Word itself, the only option I know of (which is accessible) is the inbuilt spelling and grammar checker. If you're willing to copy your text out, ProWritingAid has an accessible interface here:
https://prowritingaid.com/en/Account/Register2?returnUrl=%2Fen%2FAnalysis%2FEditor%3FscreenReaderFriendly%3Dtrue Note that it does have a Word plug-in, however last I checked, it, like others such as Grammarly, weren't accessible. If anyone finds anything else, I'd be interested to know. Kind regards Quentin.

Brian and Sarah, You are both correct, my mistake, we'll just put that down to my inability to read :) Ok in that case, as you pointed out, NVDA doesn't have a command for that currently, but if someone would like to create an issue to articulate the use case, it is certainly something which could be considered. Re: NVDA Systematic Crash
Hi, The dmp file is a crash dump, which requires a debugger to parse what it is saying (as such, you cannot paste the contents of this file, otherwise it may become unreadable once a person with a debugger opens it as things can change while transmitting over the internet). A few questions:

Greetings,
I’ve recently switched laptops, and on this new one, NVDA crashes systematically at each restart, right at the beginning, after I type the pin on the lockscreen. Would any of our beloved experts be kind enough to assist me in, at least diagnosing, if not solving this?
A few more details: there are no errors in either nvda.Log or nvda-old.Log. On the other hand, there is a file in Temp named “nvda_crash.Dmp”, whose contents seems unreadable to humans, or at least non-specialists like me. Would it help if I pasted the contents of that file in an email here for someone able to decode it? Thank you very much in advance, grateful regards.

Re: Looking For Older Version of NVDA
David,
All of the historical NVDA releases, including the various betas and release candidates, are available via the Releases page for the NVDA GitHub. See: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/releases However, I'll be darned if I can find a way to download the compiled version of the installer, which I could have sworn was possible. All I'm seeing is the source code as a ZIP file or tarball. Unfortunately, I've deleted my installer or I'd have passed it along to you. I have often wondered why NVAccess does not host a library of previous versions of NVDA. There are times where one might want something other than the current release. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform.
