Hello,
I have tried Libre office both with NVDA and jaws. In both cases it's got a nasty habit at least on my machines of loosing focus, a lot, like coming out of menus, saving documents, it's quite frustrating. I've since uninstalled it.
Thanks. Dave.

I read the article but does that mean Libera Office will be more accessible?
I tried it earlier this year and found I could not use the spreadsheet at all with another screen reader. so I went back to Open Office.

I looked into this last year. How to Geek has a good comparison article: http://www.howtogeek.com/187663/openoffice-vs.-libreoffice-whats-the-difference-and-which-should-you-use/
Basically LibreOffice has been more frequently updated and has a slightly more "classic" (Say Microsoft Office pre the ribbon) look and Open Office has a few more side bar options.
In terms of accessibility I'm not sure which is ahead though being updated more often, if you encounter a problem, it might be easier to get it addressed in LIbreOffice.
Note that there is also Open365, an online office suite based on LibreOffice: https://open365.io/
Essentially it looks similar to LibreOffice but runs in a browser. As you can probably guess..... steer clear of that one ;) I tried it a month or so ago and while I could get around the system tray component, the actual say word processor was unusable. Even aside from accessibility issues (which were enough to nix it on their own - it was sooo slow! I couldn't put up with it on that basis alone either. I'm on ADSL 2 and while I wouldn't boast it to be the best connection in the world, it's not THAT bad that it should have made that much difference.
Kind regards
Quentin.

Ease Of Access Center opening up?
I've noticed the past few times I've restarted nvda (mostly to install or update an add on) that the Ease Of Access Center pops open. If I need to do several add on upgrades this can get annoying. Is there a way to stop this from happening? As I said, this has only recently started so think it must be something with the latest version of nvda.

NVDACon Asia: Report of Day 2
Dear all, Sunday, 10th of July, 2016 observed Day 2 of the Asian NVDA conference on its Teamtalk server as well as live RadioUdaan broadcast. Listeners and attendees got a chance to tune in to: 4 BlindHelp Project – We learnt about the way a group of youngsters from Pakistan are helping and uplifting the visually impaired community through technological empowerment. They shared how this idea formed, how they currently serve people and their ambitious goals for the future. 5 Asian Language Reading Tools & Text to Speech Support – Maheshinder Singh Khosla, an experienced ESpeak coder and speech synthesis expert talked about all the back-end processes that go into a screen reader and TTS fusion, how ESpeak works and reads out the quantity of languages it does and characters in the small size it has as well as highlighting and cogently explaining the usability of the slightly robotic text to speech by ESpeak. 6 Keynote Address – The climax of the conference was graced by Dinesh Kaushal and Manish Agarwal, two major NVDA contributors and developers, assistive technology development experts who are deeply involved in the NVDA India team. These two gentlemen described their life and journey with technology, how they came about to be as the NVDA India team, talking about the variety of features and enhancements they have garnished NVDA with. Due to an overflowing quantum of questions, this session was lengthened to accommodate as many askers as possible. There were increasing number of correspondences and messages that I was receiving on the second day, and it gladdened me to perceive the true interest among our population in this event. We had more than a thousand listeners via RadioUdaan constantly and active Teamtalk server participants increasing the value. As having been one of the primary organizers of NVDACon Asia, I learnt a lot from mistakes made and was happy to see overall positive reviews from listeners and participants during and post conference. Please expect a message from me subsequently, describing my own experience and thoughts about what took place, how we could improve, and a word for other NVDA enthusiasts. I'd very much appreciate this. I just
tried to send money to my friend again this morning and I get the
same problem. Everything seems normal until after I've filled in
the amount I want to send and type in a brief message. Next thing
I tab to is a link saying please choose a payment method. It used
to bring up a screen with the choices of my bank account or my
Visa card. Now all that happens when I choose this link is Firefox
makes a familiar click and I'm right back with the amount reset to
zero and my message to my friend deleted out. I just tried this
several times this morning, and the behavior is totally
circular--that is it's just stuck in an endless loop and I never
get to chose a payment method or get to the page where it just
says send money now. I did send a message similar to this to
PayPal and will see what they may have to say about it. Something
has obviously changed on their page setup and nvda isn't catching
it for me.
Thanks.

Re: Pay Pal broken again!
This doesn't sound like a Pay Pal problem. It
sounds like a browser problem. Try another browser. If it works and
if you want to pursue the problem, delete the Pay Pal Cookie in your usual
browser and see if that helps. Also, emptying the browser cache may
help. I doubt it but it won't hurt anything and you never know.
Contacting Pay Pal may help, but it would probably
be better to contact Microsoft accessibility instead.

It appears to be just the same as it ever was, but after I do everything and then the very last step of continue, nothing happens at all. There are no error messages or anything. Can anyone tell me what they may have changed? One thing I've been noticing is that nvda will always say "invalid entry required" when I come to an edit field there. Maybe they have really changed things so that I really need to enter something invalid instead of my valid password.

Hi! I use Paypal with Firefox all the time and never have problems with it. It's possible that other browsers don't display the Paypal site quite as well as Firefox does, but I haven't investigated that. I've filled in several forms, on different websites, where it says "invalid entry" in some of the ttext fields, but those words disappear as soon as I fill it whatever is necessary, so I would guess that "invalid entry" must simply mean that you haven't yet filled in the appropriate text. Roger, It sounds as if you have the ideal setup for what you want to do. Well that's the good news. The bad news is it makes it harder for us to diagnose. I think we've exhausted any compatibility issues although if for some reason you're not running the latest NVDA, you might want to hit the update button.
Then we have to get into making sure you have a valid payment method on file, and looking at other things behind the scenes.
When something goes wrong, paypal has gotten decent at letting you know. Near the top of the page there is usually a signpost that tells you if there are errors. If you see one of those it would be helpful if you sent us the text of the error.

Your other questions relate to Open Office and MS Word. Both are excellent products. If you are using Open Office then I would recommend that you keep on using it.
What screen reader are you using?

hi. i have many questions. do you mean that powerpoint is not completely accessible for blinds? or at least its accessibility and kkey strokes with using jaws is better than nvda? i use libreoffice and openoffice and when i press tab to go to different objects, when my reading finish and i press alt+f4 to close the program, it asks me do you want to save the changes? i mean that pressing tab changes the presentations. or do you think that word is the most accessible part of office programs for blind users? i appreciate any help and guide. thanks so much for providing these notes. i copied and saved them in my system. specially sukil and Cearbhall i waite for your guide about my questions. thanks extremely and God bless you all.

I am using office 2010 and it looks as though something has changed from 2007 as the keys “a” and “s” do nothing in slide show here. I agree that the up and down arrows navigate the slide line by line and the left and right arrows move from character to character. Indeed, control+left and control+right arrows move from word to word within the slide in slide control+show mode.
Later on, we could list the variations that work in different versions of Office. For the moment, I am committed to getting an accurate working set of instructions that will handle PowerPoint with NVDA in as many versions as possible.
Do the steps that I have listed in my first message work in your 2007 version?

Oops, seems ctrl and ctrl shift F6 don't do anything. Perhaps I confused this version of Office with Office 2003.
For me, a and s work in the slideshow. I'm using Office 2007. Passing through left and right arrows works as well.

I appreciate your taking the trouble to respond. However, I have tried control and F6, etc., as you suggest but they have no function in slide view or slide show modes. Lidewise, “s” and “d” or “a” have no function. Are these possibly JAWS commands? I see that JAWS uses a rake of navigation keystrokes for PowerPoint. However, I am trying to assemble a tutorial for using NVDA with PowerPoint.
