CCleaner on Windows 8.1: programs to be uninstalled list not directly read

Bhavya shah

Dear all,
Having purchased a new computer, currently powered by Windows 8.1
Professional, I went about installing some of the necessary programs I
would require. One of them being CCleaner, I installed it from
piriform.com on my current 64 bit system.
However, although frankly speaking, I haven't really done anything
whatsoever with it, I did do this - press Tools button and Tab to the
list of programs to be uninstalled list box. The weirdest
accessibility problem I am facing in this list which was never
experienced by me on my Windows 7 32 bit previous laptop is that
arrowing does not read the name of the newly focused program name
item. What I need to do in order to work around this is arrow to the
next or previous program, and then Shift Tab and Tab back or the vice
versa and then upon renewed focus on the list box, the new item name,
which is the default focus is read out.
This is an especially strange thing I have observed, and would like to
confirm from other people out here whether this is a universally
occurring bug or something odd I am experiencing.
If further testing or information is needed, I am anyways probably
going to try some object navigation and review modes and stuff to get
this information spoken directly, and would also be happy to provide
any log if developers feel imperative.
Thanks.

Well OK this is your opinion. It was James Sholes, but still I don't care what rigamarole he whent though to sign it. Chris Taught the former programmer of the Qube is in the process of writing a CAPTIA solver. I'm hoping to see it's release soon. It will work with FF, IE 11, and IOS later on down the road.

If you try and download it off the Web Visum site FF will sill prevent
you from downloading a unverified add-on. I don't trust this as Brian
said "convoluted add-on".

Copying the link from Cearbhall's email directly into firefox didn't work for me either because it ended at the embedded linefeed cutting off the last part of the link.

Gene,

I’m sure that the method used to remove the linefeed character doesn’t
matter but here’s how I did it.
I copied the entire link to the clipboard.
I opened a new notepad plusplus document and pasted the link into it.
Next, I deleted the linefeed character and copied the link to the clipboard.
Finally, I opened firefox, pressed ctrl plus l, pasted the link into the URL
edit box and pressed enter.
The link worked at that point.

I don't know why George could reach it. I couldn't and I didn't include the
return. But the method he described or some variation is worth trying on
any embedded objects where the most straightforward method won't work. I've
used such methods on many embedded objects.

Hello Cearbhall,

I'm in the U.S. I'm running the same version of firefox as you but I am
running Windows 7 home premium with all updates and NVDA 2016.1.

The link you sent worked for me when I eliminated the linefeed character
after the equals sign.
I played several samples. Here's how I did it.
1. Arrow to the unavailable embedded object.
2. Route the mouse to the embedded object with nvda plus numPad slash.
3. Left click by pressing numPad slash.
I tried three samples and they all played for me using this method.

Give this method a go and let us know if it works on your system.

Good luck,
George

Hi,

I found a problem in Firefox when attempting to listen to a sample of an
audio book in the BorrowBox library system. I don't know if this is an NVDA
problem or exclusively a Firefox Flash Player issue. or if Bolinda need to
do something with their Java script. I should mention that the sighted user
has no problem playing the audio sample using a mouse.

I am using Windows 10,, NVDA 2016.1 and Firefox46.1 on a desktop PC.

If List members would like to see the problem for themselves I recommend the
following url:
https://fe.bolindadigital.com/wldcs_bol_fo/b2i/productOverview.html?b2bSite=
4834&browseItemId=366096&fromPage=1
It is not necessary to sign in to sample the reading of a title.

Here is a typical audio book display:

--Start of clip -----------------------
link graphic Railway Viaduct
embedded object unavailable (this should say "Preview" but doesn't!) Link
Reserve On Loan, Available on 22/05/16 Link Railway Viaduct Link Edward
Marston Read by Sam Dastor Crime & Thriller, Historical Fiction eAudiobook -
Unabridged ---end of clip ------------------

The player for the audio sample is activated by an "embedded object" that is
flagged by NVDA as "not being available". The BorrowBox help page advises
that Adobe flash must be active to enable audio sampling of each title. I
have Adobe flash installed and active. For example, I can play any song in
YouTube in Firefox without any problem.

After many weeks of failing to play the preview, I found the following
workaround using NVDA:

From the top of the web page select eAudio if not already selected. Then
press "g" to find a book title. If the next object after pressing
down-arrow once is "embedded Object" then you have an audio book and we can
start.

Here is the full sequence of steps:
1. Press G for the graphic of the book title; 2. Press down-arrow once to
the embedded object. You should hear "Embedded Object not available"; 3.
Press NVDA + numpad Enter to activate the embedded object. You should hear
"Embedded Object Unavailable Activate"; 4. Press right arrow once. You
should hear ""Space"; 5. Press the space bar to start and stop the sample
audio of the narrator speaking.

If pressing the space bar does not act as a toggle and the enter key does
not do the job either:
6. Press right arrow once;
7. Press space bar or main keyboard enter to play and stop playing the audio
sample.

Can anyone advise what to do about this?
A. Is it an NVDA problem?
B. Is it a Firefox problem?
c. Is it a BorrowBox problem for the developer Bolinda to see to?

Slightly OT - tiling windows under windows 10, to allow drag and drop using NVDA, with the mouse cursor

Jacob Kruger

If remember correctly, in things like windows 7 task manager, you could easily enough tell it to tile two windows side by side, etc. to then allow you to use forms of drag and drop from window to window, using a screen reader implementation of the mouse cursor.

However, in windows 10, the new version of the task manager doesn't seem to offer that too easily, so was just wondering if anyone knows of/can think of a relatively simple way to have two windows open, and to get them to line themselves up tiled either horizontally across, or vertically up and down on the screen, to then use the key combo of shift + numpad / to lock left mouse button on selected items, and then move over to target area/element in other window, route mouse cursor to navigator object using NVDA + numpad /, and then use the same keystroke as earlier to finish off the drag and drop operation?

Stay well

For some reason, screen-readers may see this as a window that requires browse mode.  When I tried Thunderbird a few years ago, I believe I turned off browse mode before writing or editing.  Evidently, this isn't always necessary and someone gave another work around.  If it's reliable, it wouldn't matter to any extent which is used.

Re: DictationBridge demo up

Mallard

I had to do absolutely nothing, Jacob.

I simply updated, sure that I'd lose the add-on but, wuen I restarted Firefox, I heard that Webvisum was active...

Ollie,

I'm trying this out on my windows 10 machine, and I just had to run through the windows speech recognition wizard, to get that part of it working.

Stay well

Pranav,

I've downloaded the add-on, but I don't have either dictation programme
at the moment, so I can't try it out.

I've contributed to the crowdfunding campaign though. I believe in this
sort of projects, that can make life easier for blind and visually
impaired people.

Hello,

I don't remember now whether there is a way to request password resetting on their site.

When I first installed Webvisum, one had to have an invitation. If you need one, Contact me off-list, and I'll send one to you.
