Password Protection Software
Jolene Cardenas
Hello everyone,
Can someone please suggest a password protection software that is compatible with both Windows 10 and NVDA? I am looking for one I could use to password-protect a couple of big external hard drives and a couple of Flash Drives, but I'm unsure how to go about the search for such a program. Thank you. aloha, Jolene.

You should have a look at your power management settings too. They determine what happens when your machine is switched on but inactive. You can set how the machine behaves with regard to the screen display and whether the machine will go into sleep mode/hibernation after a certain period of inactivity, in the case of laptops, the settings are also available for both battery and mains power modes. Cheers Chris

Re: Problem with Secure Desktop
Gene
Are you using NVDA installed or are you running it
as a portable screen-reader? Assuming the machine is still running and
hasn't gone into something like hibernate, as far as I know, NVdA, if installed,
should read the secure desktop.
I would consider this question to be the first that
should be asked, installed or portable? If you are running it as a
portable, installing it should let you see what is going on when the secure
desktop comes up.
If there is anything I don't know about how NVDA
should be installed to let it read the secure desktop, I hope someone will add
information.

Re: Problem with Secure Desktop
Tyler Spivey
Secure desktop is the desktop for things like UAC screens, and the Windows logon screen.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
This uses a completely different NVDA profile, with a separate speech/braille config. By default it's set to espeak. My first guess is your machine is going to sleep, and it's asking for your password when it wakes up. You can turn off sleep in the power options. If you want to copy the current configuration to the secure desktop, so it uses the same speech/braille settings as the logged in NVDA, you can do that. * Press ctrl+NVDA+G, to open the NVDA General settings. * Press the button that says Use currently saved settings on the logon and other secure screens (requires administrator privileges). * If the secure desktop appears during this process, it's probably an UAC prompt. Press alt y. If you want NVDA to work at the logon screen, the General settings dialog has a checkbox for that as well.

You may ask your bank to correspond with NV Access via their e-mail address admin@nvaccess.org. A communication, their assurance and whatever may be involved in the process may make this somewhat more 'official'. I trust you may be able to address any security concerns they may have with NVDA, referring to suggestions given in a related thread as well. Thanks.

Windows 10 Mail app does not speak typed text
Brian Crabtree <briancrabtree@...>
Is there a way of making the Mail app in Windows 10 speak words as I type or correct typing in a new message?
Most of it seems to be accessible via NVDA, but this seems to be a deal-breaker. Brian Crabtree
