windows insider mouse error Version 1607 (OS Build 14366.0)

hi all,

On the latest insider build there is a problem with NVDA, the mouse will not move, so you can't access many things including parts of websites with any browser etc. Is this a known issue? How can we fix it? This happens using the latest master snapshot. ARe the devs aware of this?

Internet Explorer will become increasingly archaic
over time.
It still receives security updates but Microsoft no longer
develops it. Learning how to use Firefox, after the minor interface
changes, will both give you access to a truly current browser, and it will, one
hopes, make you more comfortable about learning about how to work with changes
in other programs as they occur.
I am not advocating never using IE11. There are
times when IE11 and Chrome work better with this or that page, perhaps
significantly better.
But you may become a more versatile and accomplished user
by trying to learn how to work with the changes in Firefox as well as use a much
more current and better thought of browser.. Gene

What changes? There have been some changes to
the options dialog. It still retains its old form but now there is no ok
button and it's structure is technically more like a web page. But the
user still experiences it pretty much as a ddialog. You may have to do
certain things to get it to work, such as turn off browse mode after you open
options. Similar changes were made in the add ons interface.
Please ask about things here when changes occur so
you can see if the changes are just minor annoyances or differences or if they
really mean something. In most cases, Firefox has been superior for
years. It is far better to consult here and try to learn the new changes
than switch browsers.

So you don't think I.E would work as well as firefox or is it just what you use? I used to like firefox few years back but after all the changes I use IE mostly. I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed. I get along with the voices inside of my head.

Re: Pasting problems in Word 2010
Quentin Christensen
Hi Bhavya, In any case, when you paste something, a little hover icon thing appears and if you press CONTROL, that expands and you can choose the pasting style you want (the most common one I tend to use is control, then t (note you can't do it as one keystroke, you need to press control, let go then press t) to paste as plain text. So yes, if the next thing you do after pasting is something that involves control, it looks like that gets grabbed by the paste options. I don't have Word 2010 in front of me just at the minute, but in Word 2016 at least, if you go into options then "advanced" there is a cut and paste section and one of the options (it's alt+o but might be safer to tab to it just in case) is "Show paste options button when content is pasted". If you uncheck that, you won't get that control issue. If you do that, you can still get to the extra paste options by going to the paste option in the ribbon. Kind regards Quentin.

Pasting problems in Word 2010
Bhavya shah
Dear all,
In Microsoft Word 2010, one of the most annoying problems I am facing is the constant reminder to choose the pasting style whenever I paste something from a part of the document to another. If I arrow around, then this doesn't appear, but only when I Ctrl + up/down arrow to navigate by paragraphs. I tried choosing default paste this time form the two options given but in the Advanced Word Settings dialog it popped up too, I found all types of pasting situations having already set default pasting settings. This gets very cumbersome when I need to navigate often by the pasted section of text, as this pasting menu suddenly appears and obstructs my path temporarily. I would sincerely appreciate any assistance. Thanks. -- Warm Regards Bhavya Shah Using NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access) free and open source screen reader for Microsoft Windows To download a copy of the free screen reader NVDA, please visit http://www.nvaccess.org/ Using Google Talkback on Motorolla G second generation Lollipop 5.0.2 Reach me through the following means: Mobile: +91 7506221750 E-mail id: bhavya.shah125@gmail.com Skype id : bhavya.09

Re: link for Hadley survey
Brian's Mail list account BY <bglists@...>
The think is though, that apart from a few switches into forms, the form seems to work well for most of us, which points to the issue being something different on your system to most of ours.

What that difference is is hard to say from here of course, its probably only by comparing various pieces of software you run that are not on other computes tha this can be resolved. Press and hold caps lock. Then press
space. Then release both. It is a command like any other NVdA
command. To open the NVDA menus, capslock and n while holding the caps
lock.
That's an example of another command.

just press caps lock first then hold it while spacing? I guess little things like that may matter LOL. I actually got it to work once last night after writing this, and it gave the nice clicking sound and I was all happy but it was mainly luck. LOL. Re: NVDA Issues.
Quentin Christensen
It definitely sounds like a problem with the control key on the keyboard. Ok try turning input help on - press NVDA+1 (the 1 above the q). NVDA will read out any key that you press, but nothing will happen - so if you press the windows key it will announce "Left Windows" but the start menu won't open. So try pressing and releasing each of your control keys - it should announce "Left control" and "Right control". Assuming that works, try pressing NVDA+control+f - NVDA should announce "Control+NVDA+f". If it only reads "NVDA+f" then try pressing three other keys - say alt+shift+s - NVDA should read those three keys out. The only things I can think of are either a problem with your control key as mentioned previously, or perhaps your keyboard isn't recognising all three keys pressed at once. Some keyboards are better than others in terms of how many keys they can recognise as being pressed at once, although I don't think I've ever seen one that couldn't recognise three... Anyway, see how you go with that. Kind regards Quentin.

Re: Location vs reader
Gene
When you use browse mode, you are not using a real
cursor. You are not working directly with the web page you are
working with a reformated version of the page. I don't know if there is
any way to synchronize where you seem to be on screen and where NVDA announces
you are. I don't even know if there is supposed to be any sort of actual
synchronization between where the screen shows you to be and where NVDA
announces you are. Others who know more may wish to address
this. Just because browse mode tells you you are at X or Y place on
the web page, that doesn't necessarily mean that on the actual web page, that's
where you will be shown to be as a sighted user. The reformated web page
you hear in the browse mode buffer isn't even formatted in the same way.
All the links you see at the top of a web page when you use browse mode may
actually be a list of links running down the left site of the real web
page.
You may then see other content after that using
browse mode. The real web page may display the same content but to the
right of the block of links running down the left side of the page.
This can't be read in logical order so your browser
reformats the page.
Some pages do better at knowing where you actually
are, some don't But you are not working with the real web page and there
may or may not be good synchronization. I never rely on a sighted
person telling me where something is. It's irrelevant. They might
tell me something is in the middle of a bar of links on the right side of a
page. To me, that may really be near the bottom of the web page, as it is
shown to me.
The order of a lot of web pages as a blind
person sees it is roughly this:
Links at the top, other content below, links at the
bottom.
For a sighted person, the page appears roughly
as:
A bar of links running down the left, other content
to the right, then a bar of links to the right.

It's just that NVDA seems to read far from where is
visible and I don't get why it doesn't all stay together. LOL. If it tells me
I'm on one you tube link and I'm really on another it's a pain. Not sure the box
will help with t hat, but if it helps my husband it's cool. We'll just have to
try it out and see. Thanks to all. It's not usually an article so much as a
website with pictures. If we're looking at a dragon or gargoyle pendant or
whatever, I can only get so much from the description people put up on sites so
if it sounds cool I want him to look at it to see if we want it because he knows
the style I like and he likes the same so yeah...but like I wanted to show him a
gargoyle pendant and he was seeing like five pendants above where i was so yeah
we'll try this out and see how it works.

Also with the focus add on, if you press the nvda key + the tab key it should tell you if it is on screen or off screen where you can not see it, then you might have to scroll to see where it is.

Not both at once it is sorta like the nvda key then the spacebar. The other keys is very slightly after it if both are done at the same time it will not work. Gene nz
