Re: Youtube - how to navigate

Easwaran Chinraj

Dear sir,
First of all my apologies for my mistakeful English. I am using Youtube daily. So, please read the following fully.

If you feel the following is confusing, I have mentioned the very very basic style of navigation at the bottom of this reply which I was used when I was started to use YouTube with NVDA.

Open a browser and press Ctrl + L and type or copy and paste the below url.

youtube.com/feed/subscriptions

and press enter key. It will open the subscriptions page to see the videos from the channels you have subscribed.

After the page loads, press D until you hear Main Landmark Today Heading Level 2

This puts you in the main part of the webpage.

Then pressing 3 key will help you to read the title of the first video and again pressing 3 key will read the next and so on. Pressing Shift + 3 will work in vice versa (reverse).

After moving the navigation to the video you like, press space bar key or Enter key to play the video. A new page is loaded and the selected video will start to play in the next page.

The Title of the video which is currently playing will be in Heading 1 level. So, pressing 1 or Shift + 1 will tells you the current playing video's title.

To jump to the current playing video's player controls, press D or Shift +d until NVDA says Main Landmark. Then pressing the tab key will change the controls to the slider, pause, mute, next, settings, etc. Shift + tab for moving vice versa. (Or B key to navigate by buttons such as play, pause, next, mute, etc.)

You said "When watching a video in Youtube, she used to move the mouse to the videos listed on the right side of the Youtube page and click on the mouse, to go to the next or another video. NVDA would read the content of the videos...".

For that see the following:
Pressing 3 will tell the title of the suggested videos (which is on the right side) one by one. Shift + 3 for vice versa.

Pressing Enter or Space bar will play that video.

If you feel the above was confusing, simply press H key or Shift + H key to navigate by headings (video titles). D or Shift D for Landmarks, B or Shift B for buttons such as play, pause, action, like, dislike etc.

Hope I haven't confused you much and I hope it will surely help you.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reply me (your brother). Thank you sir.

With affection
Easwar Chinraj

Re: nvda 2019.3 vocalizer, and remote support

Hello Rui

I have tried the latest driver that you given, the switching language and no speech has been fixed Vocalizer is working now. But I have found a bug that I cannot do anything with my license from the menu again. I can't delete, can't check activation count and can't change my credential. I think the add-on can't talk to the server.
Note: I think it has some mistake about my activation. I'm using 1 activation on my laptop but when I checked the activation count before upgrade it said that I have 3 activations left. So I have 4 activation now include in my laptop. I would like to tell you to fixed that.

Under NVDA settings, find the vision category, and, besides toggling
screen curtain, there's also now the focus highlight option, which used
to be an add-on, but, now seems to be built in, and, offers exactly that
- highlighting what we're focused on?

Re: Image Editing Software

I'm not aware of anything specifically, but you might try making an SVG file for your logo.  You can write it a bit like code (so the downside is you need to write it a bit like code...).  I found a tutorial on W3 Schools: https://www.w3schools.com/graphics/svg_intro.asp

Are there any accessible image editing software? I am trying to create a logo for my blog, (The Blind Advocate Network), and I’m trying to find accessible imaging software that works with NVDA. Any suggestions/websites would be welcomed.

Re: MathType equation reading

Quentin Christensen

Good afternoon,

We've had a look into this and found there is a problem with Math in Word using NVDA 2019.3.  We're working on a fix.

Regards

Quentin.

Hi all,
I just upgraded to NVDA 2019.3.1, and I've noticed that for some reason NVDA no longer reads MathType equatioins in Microsoft Word.
Any idea why this is happening? I do need to be able to read these MathType equations for my introduction to logic class so any fix is appreciated.
For your information, I have Math Player installed, I tried running the installer again but NVDA still does not read MathType equations.

NVDA2019.3.1 with new Driver Vocalizer menu doesn't show

Gerardo Corripio

I installed the driver Rui shared with the list, to fix the autolanguage switching problem reported, hoping that it’d show the Vocalizer Menu option within NVDA 2019.3.1, but no go! It’s installed OK I think; when I startNVDA, it says that It needs at least one voice to get the AddON to work. I installed the Portuguese and Spanish, as well as the English packages, but still no Vocalizer menu shows, nor does it show the Vocalizer engine when going through the synths with NVDA+Control+s. Any hints what’s going on?

Re: Punctuation Symbols Changing Pronounciations

David Ouimet

Hi,

If you want your symbols and punctuation changes saved I would make a backup of your symbols.dic file.

For any who want to know how to change the sound of a punctuation or symbol on your keyboard using your symbols.dic file do this. Go to your c:\user\(username)\appdata\roaming\nvda folder and rename your symbols.dic file to the txt extension. Then for example type !           exclamation mark on a line, then press enter. On the next line type '           apostrophe and so on. Remember the tab key is between the symbol typed and the sound of the punctuation or symbol you want to hear. Instead of hearing bang for the exclamation mark you will hear exclamation mark and apostrophe for tick. After making your changes save your symbols.txt file back to symbols.dic and everytime you press those keys you will hear the new names you changed them too.

Re: Restoring default speech dictionary and symbol pronunciation?

Andre Fisher

Hi.

There is an option in the Symbol Pronunciation dialog to restore to defaults. It doesn't exist for speech dictionaries, though.

Re: Restoring default speech dictionary and symbol pronunciation?

Tyler Spivey

First, find your user config directory.
To get there, go to Run (windows+r) and type:
%appdata%\nvda
if you have an installed version, or find userconfig if portable.

Now, I'll explain what's what.
In there you have speechDicts. Delete that and your speech dictionaries go away, or you can go in there and delete individual ones for voices or the like.
The other file in here important in this case is symbols-en.dic. These are symbols for English. Delete that and they'll be reset.

Restart NVDA after you do this.

There really should be an option in NVDA to reset both of these, but there isn't.

Re: Visual indicator of NVDA cursor location?

Yes, there absolutely is.

Prior to version 2019.3 one can use the Focus Highlight Add-On.  See:  Focus Highlight
on the NVDA Add-Ons Page.

This functionality appears to have been pulled into the NVDA core functionality as of 2019.3.  If you open NVDA Preferences, Settings, Vision and tab over into the pane you'll find the Focus Highlight functionality there, with checkboxes for what you wish to have highlighted.  NVDA+N,P,S,V then Tab over into the dialog.

Re: Restoring default speech dictionary and symbol pronunciation?

You can delete all the  speech dictionary files.  There is a folder called speechDicts.  In my portable version, it is in the userConfig folder.  It may be in that folder in the installed version as well.  Open the folder and delete all the files.

I don't know how you reset symbol pronounciation to the defaults.

Question on NvSpeech Player for NVDA 2019.3.1

Carlos

Hello listers

Is the NvSpeech Player addon still developed? More importantly, is it compatible with the latest NVDA? If so, kindly provide a direct download URL.

Sincere thanks

You would also be very well advised to download and install the HP Support Assistant that's intended for your model series, and set it up and let it run, monitoring your system for all sorts of updates from HP.  Your BIOS/UEFI appears to be out of date, too.

Well, you're still running Windows 10 Version 1809, which is a problem to begin with.  Get yourself updated to 1909 - pronto, and see if that makes a difference.

I was able to get Narrator going and used a 2018 version
