Hi Rosemary,

I have no problem navigating this page and at the very end, there is a submit button. I don't want to fill out the survey because I haven't taken any such course. Actually, I thought of filling it in with all negative answers for laughs and giggles and then submitting, but that would screw up someone's reputation there. This is obviously a specific survey requested for students and the URL is probably proprietary.

rapid scrolling and pressing of ctrl. I know what my system says where and am familiar enough with my computer to know where things are without being told. :) Reading stories and articles is most of what I do with NVDA. Changing speeds from super fast to what I consider normal and back would be quite as jarring as listening to a piece of music at double-speed and then straight away listening to the same song at normal speed. Whenever I do that the normal rate sounds too slow...

Announcing the launch of a six-week course on app module creation via Skype and TeamTalk
Hi everyone,
Have you encountered an app that you believe an app module could make it more usable? Have you wanted to find out how you can apply your skills in Python in a real-life project? Want to get into contributing code to NVDA screen reader project but need some preparation time? Or are you a user who’d like to sit back as an NVDA contributor walks you through behind the scenes tour of some apps?
If that’s you, there’s an event for it: starting from June 25, 2016, come and join a six-week course on learning how to write your first NVDA app module. This course, taught by an NVDA contributor, will teach you the basics of writing app modules, including scripts, events, overlay classes and more. This course will be taught via Skype and TeamTalk:
· For Skype users: join NVDA support group. · TeamTalk: Come to NVDACon Korea TeamTalk Server (nvda-kr.org)
Course outline: · Introduction to app modules · What app modules are not · Communicating with app developers regarding app accessibility issues · Your first script · Speech, braille and tones · Handling events · Overlay classes · COM, Windows API and advanced topics · Live demos of app modules and looking at actual app module source code (from both NVDA Core and add-ons)
You’ll need: · Python 2.7. · Basic to intermediate Python skills (programmers only). · An app you’ll be writing an app module for. · Text editor for writing Python code.
Additional information: · Cost: absolutely free. · Recorded sessions: yes. · There will be an introductory meeting on June 18th at 12 PM Pacific (3 PM Eastern) via both Skype and TeamTalk (at the same time). · Basic knowledge of Python is recommended, with an experience with writing global plugins being a bonus. · Taught by an actual NVDA contributor with full access to NVDA screen reader source code.
For more information, please contact me directly via email (joseph.lee22590@...) or via Twitter (@joslee). Hope to meet many of you through this course. Cheers, Joseph

Re: NVDA Issues.
Quentin Christensen
Ok, if you are getting formatting information, then it's actually control that's not being picked up, rather than the insert - are you using the same control key when you change insert keys? I've found sometimes the control / shift or alt keys get "stuck" on - that is Windows thinks you are holding the key down when you aren't. In that case I usually tap all the offending keys a few times quickly and it seems to sort itself out. Another possibility, particularly if you are using the other control key, is that one of your control keys isn't working for some reason perhaps? Kind regards Quentin.

Some of us can certainly listen to fast rates of speed. I listen to my reading machine at 500 words per minute and I will also listen to my nls player at the highest speed. If I listen to slow that would just put me to sleep.

All screen readers, including NVDA, allow you to set verbosity modes, and the default one JAWS is called Beginner. I am not quite sure how this is controlled in NVDA and am in a hurry at the moment. Were I you I would start a separate thread asking about how to control verbosity level when working with NVDA, as it appears to be spread across more than one set of preferences and others can help better than I can.
