Re: questions for Newest nvda update.

Hi

At the time I posted my question regarding the ASCII-code, I used the one core voices. I tried it with SAPPI5 as well, and they also don’t sy anything else but, eg, e.

I accept that ESpeak NG might say the correct letter, but, call me full of nonsense, I haven’t found one of the ESpek NG voices that satisfy me.

I used to use Eloquence.

I suppose, if I don’t want to use the ESpeak voices, I just have to bare with what I have.

It would be nice if the NVDA developers could try to solve this problem in a next upgrade.

Regarding “copy and paste:, wouldn’t it be possible to make that add-on a built-in feature of NVDA?

What voice engine are you using?  Ask that, since, the MS one core voices will just read out, for example, the letter E with an accent on it as E, but, using eSpeak-NG, it tells me the difference between e and é (that second one is e-acute, typed right now using alt + numpad-130).

Re: Youtube - how to navigate

I've looked at this after not having done so for a long time.  I don't know how it is for sighted person, but for a blind person, having two settings buttons is just plain bad design.  You can change speeds, though.
Start something playing.
Move to the top of the page.
Press b for button.  If the volume is too loud, listen for a pause button and press the space bar.
Whether you pause play or not, continue to down arrow.  Don't work with the button that just says settings.  Continue to press b until you get to a button that says submenu settings.
Press the space bar to open the submenu.
Down arrow until you get to a button that says play speed.  Press the space bar on that button.
Now, continuing to down arrow will show you the options.  there are buttons for different speeds.  Press the space bar on the one you want.

In other words, in the now commmon fanatical quest to save screen space and make everything as small as possible, you have to expand item after item to get to what you want.  Everything, no matter how inconvenient, must change to accommodate the small screens of portable devices, no matter how many things you have to expand to get to what you want.

Also, don't worry about whether you hear expanded in this area.  Everything or almost everything says expanded whether it is or not.  If you haven't expanded something and it shoule be because you don't see what you should in this area, expand it.

Re: Youtube - how to navigate

Easwaran Chinraj

Dear sir,
I never used VLC player before for YouTube Videos. But I know how to change the playback speed in Browser.

When a YouTube video is playing in the browser, press D or Shift + D until you hear Main Landmark Clickable Complementary Landmark.

Then press tab until NVDA says Seek Slider and says the time of the video which is playing. For example

Seek slider slider 3 minutes 14 seconds of 12 minutes 57 seconds

Now press Shift + > to increase the playback speed and Shift + < to decrease the playback speed.

And arrow keys to skip the video forward and backward.

Pressing the Escape key will move the NVDA Navigation controls out of the Seek slider.

Reading this will confuse you a lot. So, do the above steps one by one while reading.

Or an alternate method:
Note: The first method is the easiest one.
When a video is playing, press D or Shift + D until NVDA says Main LandMark Clickable Complementry Landmark.

Then press the B key until you hear

Settings Menu Button Submenu Settings

Now press Space bar key or Enter. A menu will open.

Press Down arrow key or Up arrow key to navigate the menu until you hear

Playback speed Normal submenu 3 of 5

Now press Right arrow key to open the menu and press Up or Down arrow keys to select the desired playback speed and press Enter key. This will change the video playback speed.

After changing the playback speed press Escape key to close the settings menu.

Hope you will understand. (Because I am not fluent in English).

Hello Rui

I have tried the latest driver that you given, the switching language and no speech has been fixed Vocalizer is working now. But I have found a bug that I cannot do anything with my license from the menu again. I can't delete, can't check activation count and can't change my credential. I think the add-on can't talk to the server.
Note: I think it has some mistake about my activation. I'm using 1 activation on my laptop but when I checked the activation count before upgrade it said that I have 3 activations left. So I have 4 activation now include in my laptop. I would like to tell you to fixed that.

to be an add-on, but, now seems to be built in, and, offers exactly that

For your information, I have Math Player installed, I tried running the installer again but NVDA still does not read MathType equations.

NVDA2019.3.1 with new Driver Vocalizer menu doesn't show

Gerardo Corripio

I installed the driver Rui shared with the list, to fix the autolanguage switching problem reported, hoping that it’d show the Vocalizer Menu option within NVDA 2019.3.1, but no go! It’s installed OK I think; when I startNVDA, it says that It needs at least one voice to get the AddON to work. I installed the Portuguese and Spanish, as well as the English packages, but still no Vocalizer menu shows, nor does it show the Vocalizer engine when going through the synths with NVDA+Control+s. Any hints what’s going on?

Re: Punctuation Symbols Changing Pronounciations

David Ouimet

Hi,

If you want your symbols and punctuation changes saved I would make a backup of your symbols.dic file.

For any who want to know how to change the sound of a punctuation or symbol on your keyboard using your symbols.dic file do this. Go to your c:\user\(username)\appdata\roaming\nvda folder and rename your symbols.dic file to the txt extension. Then for example type !           exclamation mark on a line, then press enter. On the next line type '           apostrophe and so on. Remember the tab key is between the symbol typed and the sound of the punctuation or symbol you want to hear. Instead of hearing bang for the exclamation mark you will hear exclamation mark and apostrophe for tick. After making your changes save your symbols.txt file back to symbols.dic and everytime you press those keys you will hear the new names you changed them too.

First, find your user config directory.
To get there, go to Run (windows+r) and type:
%appdata%\nvda
if you have an installed version, or find userconfig if portable.

Now, I'll explain what's what.
In there you have speechDicts. Delete that and your speech dictionaries go away, or you can go in there and delete individual ones for voices or the like.
The other file in here important in this case is symbols-en.dic. These are symbols for English. Delete that and they'll be reset.

Restart NVDA after you do this.

There really should be an option in NVDA to reset both of these, but there isn't.

Re: Visual indicator of NVDA cursor location?

Yes, there absolutely is.

Prior to version 2019.3 one can use the Focus Highlight Add-On.  See:  Focus Highlight
on the NVDA Add-Ons Page.

This functionality appears to have been pulled into the NVDA core functionality as of 2019.3.  If you open NVDA Preferences, Settings, Vision and tab over into the pane you'll find the Focus Highlight functionality there, with checkboxes for what you wish to have highlighted.  NVDA+N,P,S,V then Tab over into the dialog.

You can delete all the  speech dictionary files.  There is a folder called speechDicts.  In my portable version, it is in the userConfig folder.  It may be in that folder in the installed version as well.  Open the folder and delete all the files.

I don't know how you reset symbol pronounciation to the defaults.
