Identify web element with sound

Hello
Greetings to the whole group.
I am approac at NVDA screen reader, and would like to know if there is an addon that replaces the description of the various elements in a web page such as button, links, etc. with sounds chosen by the user as in other commercial screen readers.
I believe this web browsing mode is very functional.

Many thanks for all the hard work all the developers are doing for NVDA.

Re: NVDA SOUNDS in word

molly the blind tech lover

Hi.

I think what you are referring to is that NVDA makes a buzzing sound when you spell something incorrectly. If you go to NVDA’s keyboard settings there is an option play sound for spelling errors. Uncheck that option.

Hope this helps

Hi all,

In about an hour from now StationPlaylist add-on 19.11.2 and Windows 10 App Essentials 19.11.4 will show up for stable channel subscribers. These releases are localization updates.

NOTE: this or the next releases for these add-ons will be the final version compatible with NVDA versions earlier than 2019.3. Sometime next week, I’ll create a link to old releases on the community add-ons website under entries for these add-ons. The old releases link will be online until sometime in 2020.

Hi all, I us RH voice, I have all the voices for English installed, I only use Scottish Alan, but for some reason I tried to change one of the voices still using RH voice, but it will not let me change from Alan to one of the other voices. I can say it used to work so not sure why it is not changing now. it does the same with the beta and alpha, any chance of some of the devs trying this or if someone is using the same sinth as me maybe they can try this it used to work so not sure when it changed.

Is it still possible to upgrade from the previous license? What's the cost?

Oh, thanks for clearing that up.
Hopefully, the Vocalizer Expressive version will be ready for NVDA 2019.3 when the stable version finally comes out by early January (according to the latest in-process blog post).

Do not contact codeFactory to reset your sapi5 voice keys. Instead, contact atguys.com ... they are very responsive and will reset your key right away for you.

Woops, Didn't think about that. I guess that's the reason that the
weather plus addon was not working with that version. I do think that
as the 2017 version is not having that issue, then it's safe to say
that due to some changes they did in the later versions this problem
is occuring. The only question is which?

Re: Focus highlight with remote applications?

Hi Robert,

We tested this with Zoom and can confirm that when sharing your “full screen” (or NVDA focus highlight window, which is basically the same as full screen), other meeting participants can see the NVDA highlighter overlays.

Kind regards

Quentin.

The initial add-on was never able to do this. so, I am wondering, if an Aira agent is viewing my screen after running 2019.3, with the feature turned on, can they see the highlight through zoom or TeamViewer? That would be hugely helpful when consulting with companies.

That's incredible! Well, to my surprise, this morning, I received a prompt response from Code Factory to my inquiry on their contact form. My licenses have been re-set, and I'm back in business.

While re-activating my license by uninstalling and reinstalling the add-on, then entering my activation key, I noticed a Deactivate button. So, that's how you would deactivate a license. However, the only way I see to get to that screen is to uninstall and reinstall the add-on. I pointed this out to the sales representative in my response and asked if this is correct and am waiting for a response.

WG: [nvda-addons] Audio Themes 6.0-beta2 - Addon - Addon testing

Betreff: [nvda-addons] Audio Themes 6.0-beta2 #addon #addontesting

Hello NVDA Community,

Today I'm releasing the second, and hopefully the last, beta of the sixth release of the Audio Themes Add-on for NVDA, Audio Themes v6.0b2.

Changes from v6.0b1

• The add-on docs have been rewritten for clarity and ease of use

• When editing or creating audio themes, the active audio theme will be temporarily muted.

• Several bug fixes

Users are encouraged to test this release and report any issues as soon as possible.

Add-on reviewers are asked to offer their final remarks.
After carefully weighing the costs and benefits, I've decided to go with the new name of the add-on. Henceforth, this add-on is called "audiothemes" from now onward.

As the saying goes, unless critical issues were found, this release will be identical to the final release of the Audio Themes Add-on.

Get the second beta of the Audio Themes Add-on from this URL:

Sincerely,

Musharraf Omer

Re: NVDA sometimes loses control and needs to be restarted

Hi,
As Luke pointed out in a later message, I advise NOT downgrading to anything earlier than a recent version, say 2018.4 should be the earliest version I recommend downgrading to if absolutely necessary. This is more so now that a combination of add-ons with support for old and new NVDA releases are coming out - if you install an add-on optimized for nVDA 2019.3, and then downgrade to 2017.4, add-ons will not work or become unpredictable in what they do.
Cheers,
Jsoeph

Hi everyone,

This has been happening for some time, on so many computers and with
so many different NVDA versions I can't believe I would be the only
one to see this, and it's not a huge inconvenience, but it's strange
and might be worth looking into. Regardless of the activity
sometimes NVDA "loses control". The key hooks (the NVDA key and all
the shortcuts associated with it) stop working. Using the numeric
keypad works as would without NVDA. Pressing Caplocks, which is a
NVDA key for me, triggers the CapLock function. NVDA still works
somewhat and tries to report information, but one can't open the NVDA
menu, read the time, look at the window title or indeed do lots of
things controlled directly by NVDA.

When does it happen? I've tried to reproduce the issue and it's
tricky. It never seems to happen at a given time or in any given
application. All I know is that it seems to "lose control" when a
lot of memory is required by other applications, which creates some
kind of lag. So this happens in a browser when the site has a lot of
scripts for instance. This can happen in Word if the document is
long. This can happen while the Windows CLI is opened and a
"demanding" task is running. This can happen when lots of update
information is sent to NVDA (the message queue gets long). It happens
more frequently if the machine on which NVDA runs doesn't have a lot
of memory. It sounds like a Windows lock, not NVDA's fault, but is
there a workaround? Restarting NVDA and the delay it causes isn't
really annoying, but it's definitely strange.

Most important question though: has anyone noticed this problem? Or
am I the only lucky one? Does happen!

Thanks,

Vincent

Unfortunately, any 2017 version is so very out of date, that you will likely find yourself with many other problems as a result.

Downgrading that far on any modern operating system is not a good idea.

Re: Where are the add on settings stored?

Hi,
StationPlaylist add-on settings are located in splstudio.ini. I recommend doing a clean install as a last resort, as settings will remain intact when moving from 2019.2.1 to 2019.3.

I'm just wondering where the settings for add ons are stored? In particular I'm interested in the Station Playlist add on. I have lots of custom settings in there and it may be necessary to do a clean install of nvda when the next version comes out. I hope there is a file or a couple files I can save before doing this and then I could just copy them back once the new nvda is going and I install the latest add on version.

Thanks.
