Hi group!

I've just tried the new version of screamer radio, which is: 0.9. I've
downloaded the portable one. My impression is, it's isn't quite
accessible with screen readers. I tried it with NvdA. Has anyone worked
with this program and can anyone says somethings more about the program
when possible step by step? On the instruction I've read that hotKeys
also are supporrted but probbably the screen readers don't read all from
the menus, so I couldn't find hotKeys. Thanks in advance.

Subject: [nvda] Can I Route Mouse Pointer to Browse Mode Cursor?

Hello,

I'm a new user of NVDA so I'm in the mist of learning about it. Was using JAWS exclusively for the past 15+ years.

I've always been better at learning  something when getting a program to do something specific to my needs.

Here's the scenario.

I'm able to navigate to a clickable DHTML element on a web page while in Browse Mode. It's contained within a table (Row 1, column 6.) I located this element first by simply using the down arrow key. Confirmed the exact cell location by using the [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Right Arrow] key combination.

Now when I try using the Review cursor to locate the same clickable DHTML element, it doesn't see it at all. It simply says the word "Blank" while over it.

The special route mouse function ([Insert]+[/ on numpad]) only works with the review cursor. Is there a way of having the route function work for the Browse mode cursor too?

Even though I'm able to activate that clickable element from within Browse mode by hitting the [Enter] key, there might come a time that I want the mouse pointer to left or right click it instead.

Some elements like this even bring up a sub menu when you mouse over them too.

Any ideas how to approach my query?

Is it possible to create a route mouse pointer to browse mode cursor add-on for NVDA?

How about having the ability to assign a text label to an element visible in browse mode only, so you can find it easily with the review cursor and perform functions on it?

Hope I'm making sense to someone out there LOL!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Lite version of Outlook.com

Hi,

Is there a way to force Outlook.com to redirect me to the lite version on Firefox? I tried with IE8 in a Windows XP virtual machine and it defaults to the lite version, and from my tests appears to be very accessible so I wonder whether is there a way to force Outlook.com to redirect me to the lite version on Firefox, latest version on my Windows 7 X64 desktop.

The full version of Outlook.com is slow and not very accessible with either Jaws or NVDA.

No it even does this if the screensave is off from what I've found. It might be a nice thing to see if one imports the exe notepad file from xp to 10 and run it from another place to see if it still does it. Certainly Wordpad from XP seems to be better than the 10 native one as I've tried it.For one thing, no ribbon menus....

Funny you should mention this, yes, and it seems to have something to do with either the encoding of the file or notepad itself on windows 10. It is not doing it all the time though, and hence might be a little tricky to pin down.
Its not the only program, some email programs seem to be much the same as if the scrolling is stuck.

Well if you don't know you don't have any!
Seriously though, if a program keeps on wanting to sell you stuff or download other bits upgrade to a paid version by putting up alerts every so often or adding pop ups you cannot turn off or any variation on these themes it is using adverts to promote either its own stuff of make money by selling the advert space.
In theory I have no problem with adverts, but often they tend to make otherwise accessible web sites or programs just cluttered and hard to use efficiently. This is one of the things I hat about windows 10, which keeps on plugging Microsoft office products for no good reason while its just sitting there.

Re: getting the "to protect your privacy" message even before opening a message

Travis Siegel <tsiegel@...>

I don't actually know the difference as thunderbird refers to it, but my guess would be that simple html simply ignores all javascript, and interprets the html coding only. It's a lot harder to get malicious content into an html only file than it is if you have javascript, style sheets, and other junk, so that's why they consider plain html to be safe, which it is, at least until someone clicks on a malware link, and downloads the thing to the computer, but folks are supposed to know better than to do that, so it definitely affords some protection, albeit not 100 percent, you can never protect folks from themselves.

All these settings do is determine whether NVDA announces that you are on or entering something.  They have nothing to do with whether the thing is read or can be worked with.  In other words, if you are entering a table, you will hear table if this setting is on.  If you have the announce links setting checked or the announce heading setting checked, you will hear link announced when you read a link or heading announced when you are at a heading.  If these settings are unchecked, the item will still be read and can be worked with exactly as before.  The difference is that you won't hear heading announced or link announced or table announced.  the thing will just be read.

Cearbhall, might not help much, but, under NVDA preferences, brows3e mode,
toggle layout tables on/off, and see if that at least makes NVDA recognise
this table as a table, etc.

Hi!

I don't find it's difficult to uninstall readon tv movie radio player. I did it before because I couldn't find way to work with the program.

About finding the stations. After you've fount

the country you continue with tab and you find the list of genres of the proposed stations and with one more tab: the stations alone.

Hi Group,

Also if you use the Readon player, be careful about add ware and the inability to remove it. I had to get a special removal tool to get rid of it.

Re: Reading tabs on web page

Oh, ok.

That setting tells NVDA not to ignore tables without column/row headers that are generally just used to implement layout, but, are not really data tables as such.

And, sounds like they're using forms of style sheeting to arrange text on the page, as opposed to implementing actual layout structure?

Stay well

Jacob,

Nice try! However, I'm afraid it didn't work. What does that setting do
anywhay?

By the way, did you see my email from last night? In case not, I was
pointing out that I had a look at the source code of this web page and it is
clear that they must be using java or some scripting process to call each of
the columns in turn as a web page link from somewhere else in the web site.

This means that they are painting the columns side by side on the screen but
in the html code the contents are coming in sequentially. That explains why
NVDA cannot make it into a table for love or money!

So, they must be painting nine lines from oen page. Placing a tab control,
then bringing in the next one and so on

Here is the offending page if you would like to have a go and see what
you can do.

The tabular area begins with the words:
"Starter
Business
Enterprise"
In fact, these three words are three of the column headings that I am
trying to read. As you can see, they simply appear to be lines one
below the other instead of a table row.

I really hope you can help. I do intend to speak to the developer but,
meanwhile, I have to have the information!
