Re: Drag and Drop with NVDA

Hi, I route mouse to object cursor with insert / (numpad slash) so if I need to drag some things I place the object navigation to the object that I need to move, press insert /, next shift / to lock the left mouse clic, next I move the object navigation cursor to the place where I need to move the object I selected, move again the mouse to the object cursor with insert /, and unlock the left mouse clic with shift /. If all worked correctly the objec will be moved to the new location, it depends if the object can be moved with the mouse obviously.

Brian, having never used this program for, and not being very familiar with drag-and-drop operations overall, let alone with NVDA, i'm only going to attempt to answer the first part of your question. I would think that you should be able to move to each column header using NVDA's Object Navigation. Then you would route the mouses focus to that object. I can't remember the command to do this, but I'm pretty sure there is one. If that fails, try using the text review commands, and if on a laptop, hitting shift+insert+m when you get to the column header that you want. This should route the mouse's focus to the text that you're on when using the text review commands. Sorry I can't be of more help. I hope this will give you a place with which to start experimenting. Thanks, Ari

Drag and Drop with NVDA
Hello All, This post has some broad elements asking about drag and drop operations in NVDA plus a couple of specifics to the situation. I am just not sure where to look in available documentation. Someone on the Blindtech group asked this morning about reordering the columns in the inbox (or other folder) display on Thunderbird. The only way that I can find to do this in their own documentation and through my own experimentation/exploration is via drag and drop. In NVDA, if I am not using mouse tracking I have yet to find a way to get focus thrown to any of the inbox column headings and I have to believe there is a way to do this. If someone could let me know what that is I'd appreciate it. Once I have focus on a given column heading the way to move it via mouse is drag and drop, so I'd imagine I initiate a drag and drop via Left Mouse Button Lock, INS+NumPad Divide for desktop or CAPS Lock+CTRL+Left Square Bracket for laptop. What I don't know is, once one has the column ready to drag, how does one move the actual mouse pointer to drag it. My gut tells me it's whichever one prefers: the hard arrow keys or the Num Pad arrow keys. I have not, however, found this documented. I also have to believe that the drop action is either done with a Left Mouse Button Click sequence or else a repetition of the Left Mouse Button Lock if it is a toggle that releases when done again. Any and all assistance is appreciated. The instances where drag and drop appears to be the only option are quite rare, but I'd like to know how it is done for those rare occasions where it's needed. Never underestimate the difficulty of changing false beliefs by facts. ~ Henry Rosovsky

Re: Weather+ NVDA add-on required
Ron Canazzi
Hi Group,
I figured out how to add/update cities from my old installation
of the Weather Add On to the current system. There is no separate
edit field for adding cities neither is there a list of
countries/states/cities as in the old system. However, Under
NVDA/preferences/Weather Add On/manage city IDs/list of existing
cities, that list of existing cities (the cities you have
configured in your own program) that listing is an edit combo
box. If you type in city names in the format: name,State or
country, you will get some matches. You then tab once to the test
button and press space bar. If the find is valid, you will hear a
beep and the city will appear in the edit combo box listing. If
the city/state or country is not valid, you will get a message as
such.
This seems to me a clumsy way of adding or editing existing cities, but it does work. I had over 100 cities in the old system, so I am slowly updating the information, city by city.

The create shortcut..... windows cannot create a shortcut here, would you like it on the desktop was very handy in xp and 7. It just seems to be far less open than it needs to be. the one strength of windows was that you could use many ways to get to a place if for example one of the interim screens was inaccessible, but that is far less easy to do in 10. It could be of course that 8 was the same, but I never bothered to install that update. One oddity with nvda seems to be these alerts and dialogues that pop up with no apparent indication for the user, like if you want to move a folder from somewhere directly into the program files and its 32 bit counterpart. It appears from nvda that its just not happening but if you alt tab about in nvda you find this little window that wants you to click a choice as the task was suspended. How come this is not in the foreground? This is what I mean by not being allowed in some cases, and when, say a folder is not accessible one might expect to hear a sound, like you do when trying to access other users areas etc, but in this case one does not, and having looked at the sound scheme, I cannot for the life of me see any way to make these shy windows make a noise! One can set up desktop shortcuts quite easily to virtually any app or application (settings are a different matter). If you prefer the old Control Panel for most settings it's available and you can put a shortcut to it on your desktop. I am annoyed that the "Send to -> Desktop (Create Shortcut)" method is no longer supported from the search results, but the extra step of "Open file location" (which opens the folder containing the program/app, with said program/app already selected) then doing the "send to -> desktop (create shortcut)" works just fine. The "This PC" file explorer window (for lack of a better way of putting it - it's largely the same as the old "My Computer" window) shows your drives and you can do layout tweaking there. A great deal of the use of Audacity doesn't
require scripts. You may well find that you can do what you want without
them.
Regarding my presentation, I'll say that there may
be an error in it. I had thought that you have to save files before
editing them. If that ever was true, it isn't now. I haven't used
enter to select files or tracks so I didn't discuss that. Indeed, that may
be one reason I believed you had to save files, because I didn't know things
about selection. When I started using Audacity, selecting a track either
wasn't possible from the keyboard or wasn't spoken. That has long not been
the case.
In other words, others may discuss track selection
here. my tutorial will work if you follow it but if you want to edit
before saving, you may need to know some things I didn't discuss.
My tutorial discusses both
audacity and MP3 Direct cut. You can download it here:
