Problems with [nvda] Outlook 2016

Ralph Boersema

Dear Folks,

Before this conversation dies down, let me put my problem again. I have used Outlook 2007 for a number of years and was satisfied with how NVDA worked with it. Now I have Office 2016 for Business. My outlook opens the inbox in a view that NVDA announces as “Table View.” It is simply the list of emails that I am familiar with as the list of messages in the folder. When I navigate this list the sender, Subject, Date and Time are announced in the normal way, but not other fields (whether the message is unread or flagged or has an attachment). Visually, the closed envelope, flag, and paper clip are all present in their respective columns. Does anyone have the same experience or did anyone find out how to solve it?

Warm regards,

Ralph

Re: Reading tabs on web page

Cearbhall O'Meadhra

Travis,

Are you using the right alt/gr and arrow keys to navigate a cell at
a time? That is the only way to do it as far as I know. You can hop very
quickly across the columns that way. Alt-gr and up or down arrow will keep
you in the column you want.

All the best,

Cearbhall

Speaking of reading tables on web pages. How does one navigate down the
columns of the tables. I currently have to navigate a cell at a time, and
sometimes, I don't want to do that. I'm sure there's a way to do this, and
although I read the whole manual, it was a *large* manual, and I've not read
it multiple times just yet to try to get all of it to sink in. I'm sure
this question is answered there, and I apologize if it is, but it's
frustrating me enough to try to find a solution. Sometimes, I just want the
first column, or the third column, and I don't really want to read all the
cells in the table, just that particular column, and I don't know how to do
this, and it irritates me that I don't know how to do this. :)

Hi,
I was told (from another mailing list) that there was a massive distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack against various websites, hence it may explain what's going on (I'm keeping an eye on this development).

Hi

I think it was mentioned that 2016 does not have this problem, however,
Office 2016 has a different approach to charts which we haven't got the time
to figure out at this stage.

Thank you for your assistance, I'll definitely look into it.

Ever since we upgraded to NVDA 2016.3, we have been experiencing a
strange bug in Ms Excel 2010.

When one makes a mistake in Excel, and presses Escape to exit the cell
(which, with every other version of NVDA simply exited the edit mode an
brought one back to the cell as it previously appeared), one finds that
NVDA automatically decides that one would like to be in browse mode. To
clarify this, if I type a 0 by accident in Excel, and escape that cell
and try to type again NVDA tells me that the specific letter or number
is not available in this type of document. To solve this problem, it is
necessary for me to do one of 2 things:

1. Close Excel and start all over again.

or

2. Press Insert+Space to exit browse mode.

The chanses of my students or I using Browse mode in Excel are very low
and it is not necessary for NVDA to assume that escape means I want to
start using browse mode for some strange reason.

We will be able to go back to NVDA 2016.2.1 in the interim as our
students have limited knowledge about computer and are writing exams
over a fortnight.

Would you please look into this bug as soon as possible as it causes
much frustration.

Kind regards

As I said Anarchy. Also I've noticed that many stations streams seem to change provider and hence direct address very frequently, which means if you have their direct stream address you need to find it again after a few months. A real pain in the brain.

Hi radioListeners!
I just don't know how to record station from tapin radio. But there're some accessible programs for listening of radio and recording of our favourite stations. One of them is: RadioSure

www.radiosure.com/

This program proposes at the moment 33 000 and more radioStations. Not each radio can be recorded, I don't know why. But there are many radioStations, which allow to be recorded. You have to start the station from the context menu, where are different buttons: also: play. Then you stop this radio and go with tab to hear the bitrate of the station: for example 128 KBPS. Then you open with space and you'll find there some addresses, which you can recordthis RadioStation from. Copy one of them and paste it anyWhere for download. Many radioStations are fount at shotcast. Such a station you can record when you find at shotCast, the option: listen.
Another accessible program in this area is: Readon TV Movie Radio Player. The both work under windows10.

www.readontech.com/aboutinternettv.html

filehippo.com › Windows Apps › Audio and Video

Another accessible program is: radio Box. IT'S PORTABLE only.

http://radiobox.serverma.de/radiobox.php?lang=en

Mozekti is also a good program but it seems to me it only works well under xp. There are also another programs like, for instance: radio tuna, screamer radio, prog DVB, but they aren't accessible enough.

Yes and it seems virtual recorder works better on some streams than it does on others and is probably dependent on the hardware your machine uses as well.

The issue of now playing would need some kind of live region to be set up for every site so you would get an update automatically though.

Tapin allows you to record but, though you will find a lot of stations using the program, you would have to determine if the selection is what you want.

The site
www.tunein.com
has a lot of stations but you would have to use a separate recording program to record.

Also, It'll be great to know a names of songs. Or, some web service, which also view a name of songs for some streams.

Really, I don't know, where to post this topic.

Thank You for help.

Subject: [nvda] Clarification needed on NVDA support for "aria-live" tag

Hi

We use NVDA to test our web applications against accessibility requirements and noticed the following issue. I could not find a contact mail address for technical person, therefore I'm using this mail address.

I would like to get more information as to whether there is something wrong we are doing from our end.

So here is the problem we notice.

In our application we have dialog popups where a user can enter data in to and if they happen to enter the wrong data, validation errors are thrown back to the user. These error messages are currently not readout by NVDA. Here is our source code. Appreciate your feedback on this.

Thy this on the master branch as well, I cannot test this as I do not use Outlook but I've seen discussions about this I'm sure. Master is like the beta for the next version by the way, in case you are not aware.

There is one other bug that is yet to be fixed involving Internet Explorer settings, the second of the boxes auto focus with caret movement does not alter the mode correctly, but of course you can still tab out etc, and you might hear an error sound as well, but it does actually work.
This affects IE11 Firefox is fine.

Subject: [nvda] NVDA 2016.3 AND REVIEW CURSOR

Hi Group

I have another minor bug to report in NVDA 2016.3, which affects me
personally.

When one uses the Find and replace or word count dialogue, amongs others, as
well as in some e-mails in Outlook 2010, it is necessary for one to use the
review mode and review cursors to read these dialogues and e-mails. This
has only been the case since NVDA 2016.3.

I use Office 2010 and the anniversary update of Window 10.

Please look into this when possible, or if there is a setting which needs to
be changed, please advice me accordingly.

Kind regards

Hi, I have now confirmed that your bug report was correct, but if you download the latest of the master branch from the snapshot page and install that it seems to have been fixed. I'd advise disabling test for updates though as otherwise you will be driven demented every couple of days with updates.

Subject: [nvda] NVDA 2016.3 AND MS EXCEL 2010

Hi Group

Ever since we upgraded to NVDA 2016.3, we have been experiencing a strange
bug in Ms Excel 2010.

When one makes a mistake in Excel, and presses Escape to exit the cell
(which, with every other version of NVDA simply exited the edit mode an
brought one back to the cell as it previously appeared), one finds that NVDA
automatically decides that one would like to be in browse mode. To clarify
this, if I type a 0 by accident in Excel, and escape that cell and try to
type again NVDA tells me that the specific letter or number is not available
in this type of document. To solve this problem, it is necessary for me to
do one of 2 things:

1. Close Excel and start all over again.

or

2. Press Insert+Space to exit browse mode.

The chanses of my students or I using Browse mode in Excel are very low and
it is not necessary for NVDA to assume that escape means I want to start
using browse mode for some strange reason.

We will be able to go back to NVDA 2016.2.1 in the interim as our students
have limited knowledge about computer and are writing exams over a
fortnight.

Would you please look into this bug as soon as possible as it causes much
frustration.

Kind regards

May I suggest that you try the master branch of the snapshots and if the problem is still present, go onto the development list and mention it on there. It may well be that a ticket or whatever we call them now needs to be raised as this should not be happening as I don't think it does in later versions from memory, anyone?
