Hi, I feel so stupid because I don't know how to do this, but I keep
getting alerted that there's an update to my Weather Plus add on for
NVDA. How do I update this? It says to click on check for updates, but I
don't know where to find it to do that. I'm using Windows 10. Please

Hi friends,

I am facing a strange problem: I was downloading a bunch of 100 or more mails in Windows Live Messenger from gmail using pop3. This is what I do daily without problem. However, this one time the signal broke and the downloading got disconnected. From then on, I am only downloading one or 2 mails at a time. I know there is a process to rectify this but have forgotten the same. Could some kind soul help me please? Sorry for trouble and thank you in advance.

Odd, do you ever use file explorer for other things (press Windows+e)
and have you noticed any other issues?

Also which version of Windows are you running? I'm using Rhett latest
fast insider bold of Windows 10. I haven't specifically looked lately,
but I know I've had various Windows, mostly settings Windows, which
either don't respond or close unexpectedly in various builds. I wonder
if this is something similar?

Re: Windows 10 calculatore

Right now I don't need any calc that can perform statistics, as Excel is enough for it, especially Excel 2016 which can draw some new charts like box plot. As I mentioned earlier when I tried a fresh new copy of NVDA on a Windows 10 virtual machine NVDA reads the calculator buttons fine, both with and without the Windows 10 App Essential add on. But NVDA did, however, refuse to read the changes made to the desplay, E.G when I pressed the backspace key to delete a number or the escape key to reset the display to 0.

Re: Windows 10 calculatore

Michael

When you enter an expression to be evaluated, it can’t contain a variable such as x or y or z. It can’t solve an equation. At the time I wrote this material, I didn’t find any statistical functions. Google may have added more capability over the past ten years.

In the 1980’s Freedom Scientific was a company based in Arlington Texas. It had a self-voicing engineering spreadsheet. It sat down and used it for about 30 minutes. It could solve equations. It could differentiate and integrate. The Scientific part of the company name was meaningful. Then another company bought it, and didn’t market this engineering spread sheet application. Too bad!

NVDA key + F pressed once will announce some formatting information, and if pressed twice quickly, it will bring up a list of formatting items for you to review, but, not sure if would provide you every bit of formatting information you'd be interested in - give it a try.

By format information, do you mean the underlying HTML / CSS code? For
HTML, you can view the page source. The method may vary slightly for
different browsers, but for Firefox, if you press the applications key
pretty much anywhere on the page to bring up the context menu, choose "View
page source". That shows you the HTML. The CSS that tells the browser how
to display the various elements may be in the same file or may be in other
files. NVDA can read that, but whether the source itself for many pages is
understandable is a different matter entirely *grin*.

Though it does not appear to be accessible unless you have enough residual vision to use it either as-is or with magnification, for anyone looking for a PC-based calulator that can perform statistical calculations, calculus, etc., consider downloading Microsoft Mathematics 4.0.  I can't get NVDA to "play well" with it, and that makes me suspect other screen readers won't, either, but since it's free it may be worth a shot if you have another screen reader, but my guess is that it will not be much better due to the number of buttons that need to be presented, many of which are not announced.

SECTION BREAKS AND PAGEBREAKS

Christo Vorster

Hi All

I have a huge problem in MS Word. When a section break is inserted, NVDA announces it as a pagebreak.

It is a problem because in the line of training we present here at Kaleidoscope College, the students need to know when it is a pagebreak and when a section break, and also what kind of section break.

I noticed that many problems are solved by creating addons. Would it be possible for someone, please, to create such an addon.

It would be highly appreciated.
