Ms Word behaving strangely around pages

Vincent Le Goff

Hi everyone,

For a few days I've realized that Word behaves very strangely.  I can't just press the down arrow or up arrow to go to the next page or previous page, when I'm at the end/bottom of a page.  That sounded like a minor discomfort (I had to activate the application mode and use the arrow keys) but it has become a pain as I can't select text spanning on several pages.  Who's the guilty one?  I don't remember turning on or off any setting in NVDA, but maybe I did.  Though it looks like an annoying setting in Word itself, a setting that was added more recently since I don't think I had this issue.

Does anyone else experience the same behavior and, if so, have you find a workaround?

Microsoft Word: office 365.

NVDA: 2019.2.

Settings: use UI automation in Word: no.

Thanks for your help,

Vincent

Re: Chromeium edge release date announced.

Well I know chromium edge will support chrome extentions, but if it will support google services like cloudprint, then who knows.

Now here's the big question.

What is the differences between google chrome, chromium edge and vanilla chromium.

If not much bar branding, half of me is thinking to avoid all the extra tracking especially since I don't have any google devices right now, to just use pure chromium.

Then again what are the differences.

I’m a Chrome girl.  Chrome is way faster than edge.  So, you think the new Edge  is gonna be better?  I know it’s slow and clumsy right now and you don’t have some of the options with it that you have with Chrome.  What’s gonna change?

Resource Monitor 19.11 #addonrelease

Hi everyone,

Resource Monitor 19.11 was released a few hours ago. The biggest change (apart from localization updates) is better detection of Windows 10 Insider Preview builds going forward.

As always the new add-on release can be found on community add-ons website and via Add-on Updater.

Cheers,

Joseph

Microsoft just announced a tentative release date for the new Chromium Edge browser. And, holy batman, I can't wait to replace the old with the new for good! No more beta's! the target date is Jan. 15, as said here.

They just released the last beta. I hope you all download it and give feedback. Makes sense, too, because they announced their new FireFox looking logo the other day too.

Edge will be far better than what it is now. Seriously. Give it a spin, and report feedback, before the final release.

If the Skype launcher shortcut is not in your startup folders, or if it replaces itself every time you run Skype, you may want to use a program such as Piriform's CCleaner to disable unwanted applications from running at startup without having to uninstall them. (CCleaner can also delete all temp files, check the registry for leftover entries, and it contains an uninstall programs page that is a little faster than the Windows one. However, I cannot vouch for the accessibility of CCleaner.)

I have this problem as well.

Windows open at startup that are not in the systray or taskbar. Alt tab sometimes moves focus away.  Windows key+d to move to the desktop sometimes works too.

Some utilities just show up as windows on startup. I find I need to disable them from task manager.

This is not screen reader specific. The title and other info isn't
presented to any screen reader in some cases.

How would I create a generally usable log if I wanted to report the problem?

Overlays in chrome

Sile

Hello

I recently had to log into my verizon account and the sign-in window appeared as an overlay.  I could open it or close it, but could not reach the email or password boxes.  Is there a way around this?

Do you know if it has a keyboard shortcut for reader mode? I didn’t see one. Also don’t see an option to just open a blank page in new tabs. Did I miss something?

Re: Reset NVDA Input Gestures

molly the blind tech lover

There is a way to remove the input gestures you don't want anymore. For example, if you wish to create a gesture that will allow NVDA to tell you when the next alarm is, there is an option to remove the gesture after it is created. This is just one example, as I created an input gesture for the clock add-on, allowing NVDA to announce when the next alarm is. But you can create gestures for other things as well. Then if you wish, they can be removed.
Hope this helps ☺

So are you saying the command keys only work with the HumanWare protocol? That's good to know.

While it works for me, the six command keys don't seem to be supported.

I use this all the time. I just plug it in via USB and it works. Did you install the USB drivers from humanware?

Re: Using HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA

David Csercsics

Mine is set to HumanWare protocol, because as far as I know, automatic detection doesn't work with OpenBraille. But you should be able to set the driver to HumanWare brailliant bi in NVDA manually, and it should work. OpenBraille lags a bit, which is why I don't use it. But I can understand why you'd want to, if you also intend to use the Brailliant with narrator, since narrator didn't seem to work unless I enabled openbraille.

Re: Using HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA

Daniel Gartmann

In fact, I didn't install the USB driver since it should work without them when using the Open Braille protocol. But, I guess I am missing something then.

What is your display set to?

Using HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA

Daniel Gartmann

Hi,

I tried withouth success to use the BI 40 from HumanWare with the 2019.2.1 version of NVDA.

I tried connecting with the "Auto" option in the Braille settings via USB.

Is anybody out there using the HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA and how?

Since I am using a device that is not my own, I can't do much testing myself. But while I have it for preparing a JAWS training, I couldn't resist the temptation to try it out with NVDA.

Thanks for your input.

Daniel

Re: Reset NVDA Input Gestures

Hi

In the current version of nvda you can remove gestures if you want to then go back and add a new one in its place unless it does not let you.

The alfa version has this feature built into it but will not been seen until 2019.3 when it comes out.
