Re: startup sound in windows 10

Rosemarie,

Sorry to hear that.  I just double checked and it does cause "the classic startup sound" to play on my Win10 laptop.

The problem, though, is that it plays as the lock screen appears.  Once you log in, depending on what you've got set as startup processes, it can be a wait until the desktop is up and ready to go.

Yes.  What is your current default browser?

Some have settings to switch back to themselves as the default browser if something else changes it.  I can look through the settings for whatever is you keep having pop up as the default browser even after trying to set Chrome as the default.

Hi Brian,

Yep, that is the path I tried and it doesn't take effect.  I thought perhaps it was because UACC was stopping it in the bakcground but I checked and it isn't even coming up.

Any other ideas?

Hi, Brian,

I tried everything you suggested and nothing has worked. Apparently there's no real startup sound in windows 10 like there is in earlier versions. I'm through trying.

Chrome and NVDA and setting it as the default browser

Dan Beaver

Hi,

I have installed Chrome and have tried it out and found that it works much better than it used to.

Now I want to make it my default browser. How do I do this with NVDA? I keep trying to do so using the settings in Chrome but pressing the buttons seems not to take effect.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: web visum digally signed extension

Even more interesting.  First, there is operator error involved here.  I entered a different e-mail address than the one that had been used to create the invitation because I was on auto-pilot [not always a good thing].  The confirmation e-mail came in to the e-mail address I used, so there's no cross-checking that the invitation address and the account address are one and the same.

Now on to adding the add-on in Firefox.

Re: startup sound in windows 10

Rosemarie,

Trust me, the Sound Dialog (note, not Sounds, that's a tab within the dialog) is a part of Control Panel under Windows 10 (and earlier versions, too).

After that's open it has four tabs:  Playback, Recording, Sounds, and Communication.

Re: web visum digally signed extension

Interesting.   The WebVisum website allowed me to fly through the registration process and said I'd be sent a confirmation e-mail that I must respond to in order to complete the process.  That doesn't seem to be coming into my inbox with any deliberate speed.  I'll keep you all posted as to when or whether it arrives.

Hi Brian

No worries.

I might even look at adding a section on my website on how to join. If i remember right there is info going to the web visum website but could add to that with direct links to the updated add on etc.

Re: How to I submit a bug report ticket?

Quentin Christensen

Hi Andre,

Not sure if that was a suggestion or request for help getting back to the dictionary?

If the latter, to get to the dictionary to delete an entry:

1. Press NVDA+n to open the NVDA menu
2. Press p for preferences.
3. Press d for dictionary
4. Press enter for the default dictionary (V for Voice dictionary or T for temporary dictionary)
5. Press the down arrow to select the first entry (keep pressing down arrow to move through any other entries in this list).
6. Press alt+r to remove the entry.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 as needed.
8. Press tab four times to get to the OK button.
9. Press enter to press OK.

Regards

Quentin.

startup sound in windows 10

Hi, everyone,

Is there a way to get the startup sound in windows 10? I disabled fast start and shut down but when I booted up again,I didn't get the startup sound.

Thanks very much for your help in advance.

Re: microsoft edge:

Hi Kenny,

I'd love to say yes, however, as we know, it's taken over a year for Microsoft to get Edge to the point it's at now.  We're certainly talking with Microsoft to try and get a better experience for users.

For now, for the best experience, we would still recommend using one of the other browsers for most daily browsing.

Quentin.

Re: we have a need

Quentin Christensen

Hi Joseph, everyone,

There is an issue on GitHub: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6227

I think from memory there is something a little odd about the way Office provides the information, and yes what you get via hovering the mouse over a ribbon control is different to what NVDA reads if you navigate to it with the keyboard.  The text read when you move via the keyboard is actually what is displayed visually when you hover the mouse over, but that isn't the text read by NVDA when you do hover the mouse over.

There's also the issue of which shortcut to read - for instance for left align, the shortcut key is control+l, but there is also the ribbon navigation key of alt, h, a, l - obviously the first one is quicker, but it could be argued that the second (in some cases) is more consistent with other commands (it's always alt+h to get to the home ribbon, but do you want both to be read out is the other question...

Regards

Quentin.

Hello

We have been performing group tasks among blind and sighted users.  We need to hear the shortcut combinations when we bring the mouse over a control especially on excell and office software.  Can you create an add-on for this purpose?
Thanks a lot.
