Re: deleting file from downloads folder closes the downloads folder window

Dan Beaver

Well, I have found that if I open the downloads folder and then using the ribbons click on the delete or delete permanently buttons it works as expected and does not close the folder.

I have not found any other odd behaviors.

I am running windows 10 anniversary with all the more recent updates.

Thanks.

Good afternoon list; Marv here.  I got a new computer; acer desktop running windows ten and nvda 16.2.  I have a minor issue; I hope.  This is the home edition.  I put in two sounds; one for open program and another for close program.  A Microsoft disability specialist worked on this thing for approximately two hours without resolution.  These are the only sounds that are effected by this intermittent problem.  If anyone has any ideas on what I could try, I would like to hear them.  Thanks in advance.

Vocaliser requires you to pay over $100 for the license to use the synthesiser. I don't know why you believe it's necessary to have Vocaliser to make a tutorial. You don't need it. Just because other users have and use the addon and have made tutorials featuring it, doesn't mean you have to get it to make a tutorial.

Also, in my opinion, Vocaliser isn't as expressive as its creators would like you to believe. The voices sound very humanlike, true, but they are also flat as pancakes and don't respond to question marks or exclamation points, and you can forget getting them to pronounce things correctly!

Re: Scrambled speech in console windows

I have no solution, but I've experienced something similar when using mIRC. At random it will start speaking several lines of text way before the current position and it will not always read everything but just parts of it and sometimes it will get stuck in a loop and keep doing it until I kill it by hitting a control key. This has been going on for several years with many versions of nvda.

Re: Does updating NVDA preserve setttings?

John,

Someone else who uses a Braille display will have to absolutely confirm with regard to that.  My experience with upgrading NVDA from release to release using the internal update feature or installing release candidate software has kept all of my settings preserved as well as all the add-ons I've installed.  This is common practice now and the only deviation I commonly see from it is the inclusion of a specific question during certain installs where a question is asked as to whether you'd like to do a clean install and telling you this resets everything back to "out of the box" condition.   NVDA has never presented me with one of these and has always carried my settings forward.

Murphy's law dictates that the very second you commit to the release a bug is found of course. its the natural way of the world. grin

Back many moons ago when I could see I used to test and handle the software on line on a UK system called Micronet, for the old zx Spectrum. This meant converting it and testing it on all the different variants of the machine and then uploading the files. I could test till I was blue in the face and then somebody a day later would point to a problem which made it crash or do something stupid.
This is why, these days you need a varied bunch of users. People who are too familiar with software often miss the obvious, much in the same way that a writer does not see their errors in a document.

When everyone testing the rc 2 is happy or if any issues emerge, when they are fixed and rc3 is seen to be ok.
The more complex software becomes the more things can get missed, which is why we are asked to test the rc releases.

Most of us tend to use what we are used to using, and it may well be a little while till some features get used and are found to have either regressed or have issues under certain circumstances.
Which reminds me I need to reinstall one of my rc2s to see if a vanishing menu syndrome is nvda or something corrupt in the update.

If you choose the download folder as some other folder as you can in firefox, does the same thing happen in that new folder, indeed does this behaviour happen in any folder other than the one normally set as default for downloads. I have to admit I changed mine to go to a folder I created with more access privs called unimaginatively \arc
I've not hd this experience there so far.
One thing I do find a bit odd about Firefox though is that it seems to hide the downloads from previous sessions. I find this irritating as I normally open the download list in firefox and then cursor away from the current download to avoid nvda repeating the file details as it reads the percentages of downloads.
