Bingo, Chris!

My colleague Ronan McGuirk’ and I have just discovered this same routine and I am about to post it to the list. I have just one stroke different from you: I would suggest that the user not press enter after typing in the search word in the Navigation window but press escape after completing the typing, just as you advised. That will leave the user at the point in the document where they started. The first time they press CTRL-PageDown they will hear the full line of text where the key word is located. I found that after I press enter  I only hear the keyword itself.  Would you do me a favour and let me know what you think of the procedure which I describe in my next email, please? I would rather have it complete and agreed by experienced users as I am passing it on to some children who are learning the technique.

All the best,

I don't know if this is true of later versions of Word but works in Word 2007 and prior.  Use Ctrl+f to invoke search dialog, type in search criteria and press enter.  This will find first instance forward of current document position.  Press escape to dismiss search dialog, then use Ctrl+pagedown to search  forwards, ctrl+PageUp to search backwards through the document.  Search will ask if you want to wrap around when top/bottom is reached.   .

Hi Gene,
Sorry for having communicated the old address of your site.
Indeed, I
copied the link in an "ageless" email.
Then
your current URL was immediately available on the desktop, attached to a frequently used icon ....

I'll try to be less forgetful and lazy ...
Anyway congratulations, and thanks, for the work involved in writing this site.

I can't believe Drop box still works for xp. I'm glad it still does for those who use it. My xp box died a long time ago! My very first xp box quit serving me when I started using jaws 11. It couldn’t handle it. I had to give it to a sighted user. Yes, with it I had drop box. I was going into chat rooms that used tc conference. The second box I got from a friend. it died shortly after I got my 7 box witch I still have. I'm happy with 7. If I get or end up with ten so be it.

iTunes is different on iOS as it’s the iTunes Store and not the iTunes desktop program we all love, or hate as the case seems to be on Windows.

did you use nvda control f3 to repeat the search?  That is the correct procedure.  NVDA key control f for the firrst search.  NVDA control f3 for repetitions.  It may not matter but at this point, we don't know if the problem is the command being used or the way NVDA search works in Word.

Gene,

Yes, you are right that NVDA’s browse mode works in MS Word. It does bring the real cursor along with the virtual cursor. In fact, the windows wearch can also be used while in browse mode.

The NVDA search, NVDA+control+f only finds one occurrence of the result and not multiple occurrences like the control+f does. Therefore, it seems to me that there is no point in using browse mode to bring up multiple occurrences of the result.

You have to manually enter browse mode, NVDA key space.  As I said a few days ago, and no one addressed my question, does that move the actual application cursor along with the browse mode cursor or does it just move the browse mode cursor.  To get back to the application cursor, once again, use NVDA key space.  It's a toggle.  At least I should say, it's my understanding that in Word, this command toggles browse mode on and off and it must be manually done.
