Re: Microsoft Edge Dev Issues

Hi,

Before we go any further, I would like to remind everyone that:

  • Dev channel is NOT canary.
  • Dev channel is NOT stable nor beta.

In terms of NVDA development workflow:

  • Canary: source code level development.
  • Dev channel: alpha/master branch builds.

Cheers,

Joseph

Which is exactly what needs to be done, and a great example to set.  As a former software developer I can say, with absolute certainty, that you can't fix bugs that you don't know about.  That's why reporting same is essential.  And very often it's only after some critical mass is reached with regard to same/similar complaints that they get looked at.  You get a lot of bug reports that are due to user error, not a bug, but a pattern generally confirms a bug, or at the very least something that needs to be corrected.

Microsoft Edge Dev Issues

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

I am using NVDA latest version and I have just tried Microsoft Edge Dev (the chrome based version) on my Windows 10 latest update version.

While it shows some definite improvements, I have been having an issue where it locks up the speech and even the system on heavily crowded pages such as Tune In and Instacart.

Has anyone else seen this and if so, what could be causing the issues?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: confused

It could very easily be a small corruption in the Windows 10 installation that, for whatever reason, is only interacting with NVDA and not JAWS.

Any time you see strange issues such as this one, and particularly after a Windows Update, there are a number of steps you could take.  In this case I'd try the following two, in order, and if the first one fixes the issue then stop:

1. Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10

2.
Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

I just looked at the setting in the advanced category.  I don't think it applies, but if the check box is checked, uncheck it.  I doubt you ever changed the setting but I was trying to think of something that might apply.

Also, though I don't think it would make any difference, have you tried changing the window, maximizing it if it isn't, or restoring it if it isn't?

Is the item view the same as a list view?  If so, you can use it very efficiently and, I prefer the list view because nothing automatically opens.  Simply back space to move up one level and press enter to open something like a drive or a folder.

As to why the tree view isn't being read, I don't know, but I wonder if it has anything to do with the UIA setting being used.
I don't know where it is in NVDA, but there is a setting for using UIA or not using UIA.  What is it set for?  others can discuss that setting in more detail, I don't have Windows 10.

I have downgraded to 2019.2 and I still get the same result. When I open file explorer and shift tab from the item view to what  should be the tree view NVDA does not speak. If I shift tab again it says Cortana. When I turn NVDA off and open JAWS the tree view is there. Two weeks ago everything was fine. I have even uninstalled NVDA and reinstalled and get the same results. On my laptop which is also running NVDA2019.2.1 it is working just fine in this area.  The only major thing that I have done in this time period is to upgrade Windows to

Version 1909 OS build 18365.535.

I am running the same version and build on the laptop but not having this problem in file explorer there.

Getting information about justified text in Libreoffice-Writer

luciano de souza

Hello all,
I am trying to migrate from Microsoft Word to Libreoffice-Writer, but
I found some issue about format.
I wrote a paragraph and selected it. Afterwards, I go to Format menu,
align, justify. I supposed the text was justified.
But how to verify this condition? Using NVDA+F8, I got some
information about formats, but between then there's nothing about
alignment.
So I ask: having formated text to be justified, how to make NVDA inform it?
This is my first message to this group and I take the opportunity to
wish you all a happy new year!
Best regards,

David Griffith

This is very strange as it seems NVDA specific if Jaws is reading the tree view fine.

As a workaround you could consider using Explorer ++  as a temporary alternative to File Explorer. At least that will let you navigate between your different drives.

Explorer ++ can either replace File Explorer or work alongside it.

It is free and in many ways better than File Explorer anyway.

Re: NVDA Is Misbehaving On My computer

Gene

This sounds like a buffer overflow problem to me.  I don't know what the solution may be.  it sounds as though the problem doesn't occur in Internet Explorer.  I would suggest trying Chrome.  You can import book marks into Chrome, but as far as Internet Explorer is concerned, while you can do it as well, Internet Explorer is old and I doubt it will be supported for more than a year or two.

If others don't have suggestions that solve the problem, I would suggest trying Chrome.

As for the crash there can be various reasons.

It can be corrupted system files, low end hardware ,Windows bug or issues of NVDA itself.

Please provide more information.

Hi Ibrahim,

Due to the fact that I've happened to faced what you have, too, I've decided to switch to Google Chrome. That's saved me from such a behaviour of the screen reader. Do not be sorry for your bookmarks. Don't despair. Grab Chrome and have a try. Although I use Windows 7, 64 bit, it's all the same with Firefox. Chrome is much better for me.

HINDI OCR

Ramesh Patil

Hello All,
Please tell me Hindi OCR is available for NVDA. if yes, how I can do it?

Re: NVDA Is Misbehaving On My computer

You will have to restart nvda or the computer.

I have 3 or so sites that do this so I run things and then do the sites after in a new session close and reopen the brouser.

I suspect that firefox is leaking memmory, waterfox does it from time to time.

If you happen to have the updates enhancer from hp, then the system will happily lock up and restart from time to time while visiting some sites especially the hp one.

With it off well some sites like hp use memmory like crazy.

This system in theory should handle a mutherload but it doesn't always handle it right.
