Spellcheck: How do I read the misspelled word in context?

Ann Byrne

when checking a document for spelling, how do I get NVDA to read the sentence the word belongs to? Advanced versions of Word do offer their own solution, but in 2013 there is no external voicing of the sentence.

I can manage with Narrator but the process is clumsy.  I just sent an email to the address the agent gave me and, if the changes they made caused this barrier between the site and NVDA, I suggested that maybe they offer that other version of the site as an accessibility option.  I’ve seen many a site (Amazon being one), that offered links for more screen reader friendly versions of their pages.

What happens if you use Narrator?

Earlier, I posted a note where I explained that I wasn't able to activate a link in an email sent to this group using NVDA. I tried all the methods I'm aware of to no avail, and Brian has just confirmed that he can't access these links using T-bird when NVDA is not loaded. So it appears not to be an NVDA issue. I wonder if others who use T-bird are having problems accessing links in emails, such as those that appear at the end of messages sent to this group, where you may reply only to sender, mute the topic or reply to the whole group. If you have had issues activating such links, what was your fix? Or did you not find one?

Ame, I have some insight to the Hulu access. I use jaws, but with the virtual cursor on, I can confirm that what you’re seeing here is the same thing I am. However, if I turn the virtual cursor off, I am able to press enter on things like my stuff, TV shows, etc., and explore things within those menus.  The reason I thought to turn the virtual PC cursor off, is that Jaws is announcing these items as menus.  I hope this helps, and if there’s a way to do something similar in NVDA, you’ll get this.

No one could reasonably argue that.  And practice, practice, practice does make as close to perfect (which sometimes isn't all  that close) as you're going to get.

I do see that you state you're using the installed version, and the main reason for my message you quoted was to get the word out that, even if you know your screen reader well, accessibility is generally considered to be better in the installed version than the universal app.

Hi

When I open Skype, I always press F11 for full screen mode, then I can move around it OK.  I checked the Help, About menu item and it displayed the following:

Skype version 8.66.0.77

Application version 15.66.77.0

© 2020 Skype & Microsoft

You're on the latest version of Skype.

I am using Windows 10 20H2 with latest NVDA and use Skype on a regular basis without too much difficulty.

Cheers

Re: How do I copy tables from a webpage while preserving their formatting

To copy the table, you need to use a browser plug-in.
There was something like Table2Clipboard for Firefox
And for Chrome, for example, Copytables plugin
Of course, it will be difficult for us to select selected items, but from the context menu or the edit menu after installing these plugins, you can copy the entire table.
Must try.

F8 to select tables is a jaws command. It doesn’t work in nvda unfortunatelly!

With the cursor on the line that says something like "five columns

and three rows", press f8.  That will select the whole table with

formatting.  Copy and paste it into the Word document.
