I don't have the One Core voices.  But I doubt you can listen at 350 or 400 words a minute and have them remain easy to understand, as you can with Eloquence.

If I listen at 400 words per minute, my comprehension isn't as good but the speech remains very understandable.  I would imagine some other people listen at 400 words per minute or faster with no loss in comprehension.  My loss of comprehension is because of how fast I can take information in, it us unrelated to the speech quality which, as I said, remains good.

Re: What is good voice suggestions Voices

First, your message says sent from my IPhone.  I have no idea if you are asking for voices for a computer or voices for something else, like your IPhone.  I am going to assume that you are asking about voices to use with NVDA, but it is important to define what you are talking about.  I would have answered much sooner but I didn't know if you were asking about NVDA or an IPhone.

Eloquence is as responsive as e-speak and it has the best speech I know at fast speeds.  It pronounces the most words correctly of any synthesizer I know without using the NFVDA speech dictionaries.  in other words, it pronounces the most words correctly by itself of any synthesizer I know.

You can get a demo of an Add-on for NVDA which you  can try that has Eloquence.  You can also get a demo of a SAPI5 version of Eloquence.  they both run for a week and you can decide which, if either, you prefer.

There are other synthesizers such as vocalizer that you may wish to try. I am currently running a trial version of code factory vocalizer and from what I can gather it seems almost as responsive as eSpeak.

Hi Don,

The latest version of Thunderbird is 70 something.  My experience with versions past version 68 is that things like the status line are not read with the hotkey insert + end (NVDA) or insert + page down (JAWS).  Has this changed in the latest version of Thunderbird?  What is the latest stable version of Thunderbird?

Re: Numpad Issue With NVDA And Thunderbird

Robert Logue

I just tried.  highlighting and pressing nvda numpad 5; while reading a thunderbird message body.  I have about the same result except NVDA says "section"."

I also tried while composing and got a slightly different result.

about:blank  document  focused  editable
" plus the line the cursor is on.

Just press numpad 5 alone, to read the word the cursor is on, and press twice to spell.

There was no problem using nvda+numpad 5 in the message headers.

I am not quite sure when this started--probably with the 2019.3 update, but now when I am in a Thunderbird message and I want to try to highlight a word in an open message and check the spelling, when I press insert + numpad 5, NVDA says: 'blank.'  This also occurs in the subject field and the other header fields.

Has anyone else noticed this and is there a work around?

When you originally went to install, did you get the UAC prompt from Windows itself about installing the program? If you don't answer Yes to the UAC prompt within about 20 seconds, it times out and denies the program from installing.

Yes, I did see it, but the UAC prompt isn't the problem, I always answer Yes using the alt Y or in my case alt+j shortcut (German windows), and the installation continues. I don't wait for 20 seconds for something to happen.

The only other thing I was thinking was if you had controlled folder access set, it will install NVDA but not create the desktop shortcut. If that was the issue though, it wouldn't have worked any better with NVDA 2019.1 than 2019.3.

No, I don't have controlled folder access set. I checked this when it didn't work, because I knew it could be a problem. No, it's not active.

I do think there is a problem with the installation of 2019.3 though, because a lady on the German NVDA list reported the same problem. She's a very competent computer user and I'm sure she, too, knows how to deal with UAC. Maybe it doesn't affect systems where English is the default language... And maybe it wasn't reported much, because many people using NVDA 2019.3 will have updated an older version and won't have encountered this issue, because the shortcut and start menu entries had already been created by a previous installation of an older version of NVDA...

I, however, attempted a fresh install on a new machine.

Emne: [nvda] Character not spoken when reading by character

Hi,

Using NVDA 2019.3.1, and the CodeFactory Vocalizer add-on:

I am trying to investigate an issue where the é character is not being read with the CodeFactory Danish voices when I go character by character using the standard, arrow keys.

With eSpeak NG, the character is spoken.

Any idea how I can investigate this issue further or even try to correct it?

Thanks and best regards

Daniel
