RIght enough Gene - "COM Registration Fixing Tool".  And yes, that's what I would have suggested trying as well.

This sounds to me like the longstanding problem that some programs, when you uninstall them, unregister some.dll files.  NVDA has a utility to correct the problem.  Open the menu with NVDA key n.  Find and open the tools submenu.  Find and run the com registry fixing tool.  That may not be the exact name but its close enough that you will know it.  The tool reregisters the .dll files, if they have become unregistered.

This also happened to me and I dealt with it by  installing  Waterfox at that time as a slimmed down version of FireFox with at the time better accessibility.

I have now pretty much moved to using Brave full time now so I am not quite sure of the full status of Waterfox. I relaunched it just now and it appears to be still OK.

Hi Everyone

I use Windows 7, NVDA 2019.3.1 and Firefox 68.5.0ESR. It works fine on
one machine.

I have just installed NVDA on another Windows 7 machine and, when I load
Firefox, it says the title of the page and then keeps saying "Unknown".
This machine had a previous version of Firefox which was updated today
to 68.5.0ESR.
I created a portable version of NVDA using the first machine and
installed it on the second one.

Can anyone advise me how to make it work on the second machine?

Thanks

Re: Problem with NVDA while reading documents

Quentin Christensen

Hi Vaibhav,

Can you please give more information about what happened here.  I can't quite follow / replicate what you have done.  Firstly which program are you working in?  Initially I thought maybe Word, but SHIFT+TAB doesn't change documents in Word.  CONTROL+F6 will switch between open Word documents, or ALT+TAB will switch between open windows (from any program).

You can use SHIFT+TAB in File Explorer to move from the file list to the folder list, which you might do if you want to move to another folder of documents?

All of those things worked just fine in Windows 10 / Office 2016 / NVDA 2019.3 for me just now.

Also you said NVDA kept talking, what was it saying?

If you could email that information with a full copy of the log to info@... I can have a look for you.

Regards
Quentin.

Vocalizer Expressive Driver

Andrea Sherry

Using Windows 10 64 bit home.
NVDA 2019.3.1.
Have installed Vocalizer driver/voices.
Each time NVDA loads I receive a message from Vocalizer that my credentials cannot be verified.
It says to check where my email ans password have been entered correctly. Have done this and it is correct.
The screen also suggests that I am using another person's software or that I am attempting to use Vocalizer on more than one computer. This is not correct.
Went to the Vocalizer site and downloaded the driver 3.14 I think it was. However when I attempt to install I am told thqat this addon is blocked. The only driver addon that works form me is a version (3.10) which I installed with an earlier beta.
Is there another driver version I should have and if so where is it?

Number and Abbrieviation Processing

Gary

I don't know if this is two issues or one and if it's something that
can be done within NVDA. I use the Windows core voices synthesizer,
although it occurs with the Microsoft SAPI synth as well. I do not
want dates or abbreviations to be processed. For example, the latest
version of NVDA, 2019.03.01 is read as "March 1, 2019" instead of
"2019 dot 03 dot 01". Additionally, I am hearing hello.pl as "hello
dot place" instead of "hello dot p l." Obviously, I know I can use
the dictionary to teach NVDA to read "pl" as "p l" but there seems to
be dozens of these abbreviations. I look at software versions all day
so the first example is driving me crazy.

Is there a way within NVDA to say ignore date processing and
abbreviation processing? I definitely have been unsuccessful finding
how this would be done with the synthesizer software. If there is a
synthesizer that has this level of control that won't hit my wallet
too hard and actually has a real sounding voice, I'd be interested in
going that route if it's my only option.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Gary

The reason for doing that is to try to find out if the problem is with Firefox or NVDA.

Searching for Groups.io Groups and Their E-mail Addresses

1.       Navigate to the Groups.io main page.  If you get a warning about logging in, this will not be necessary for what you’re attempting to do.

2.       Navigate to the Find or Create a Group link on that page then activate it.

3.       In the search box, enter the search terms for the group you’re trying to locate.  I recommend being too specific as far as the number of search terms.  If you get nothing back, remove terms one by one until you do.  For example, if I use the two search terms NVDA Add-Ons, I get two groups back, the NVDA Add-Ons group first, and the NVDA group itself second.

4.       Review what’s come back.  Each group returned is, like in most search engines, presented as a heading, under the initial heading “Publicly Listed Groups.” You can use the H quick navigation command to review the results.

5.       When you find the group you are looking for, activate that link that is the heading.

6.       There is a heading on the group main page entitled “Group Email Addresses”  you can search for that and find the list underneath it, or you can use the “cheaters” method and use a screen reader search on the @.  The first and second occurrences of the @ on the page are generally the posting address and subsequent entries are the subscribe, unsubscribe, etc.  Once you find the subscribe address, just copy it and send an e-mail to subscribe to the group.

Re: NVDA froze

Gene

You can try running another screen-reader and then shutting down NVVDA in the Windows Task Manager.  However, I don't know if doing so might, at times, freeze the computer where it wasn't before and thus making an improper shutdown necessary.

While improper shutdowns usually do no damage, they can on occasion.

I am interested in only the Vocalizer voices for NVDA. A T Guys has Eloquence and Vocalizer Expressive Add-on for NVDA for $69 and
Vocalizer Expressive voices for NVDA (Latest Version) for $115.
So does this mean that the Vocalizer voices in the $69 version are out of date and not as good?

Dear sir,
First of all my apologies for my mistakeful English. I am using Youtube daily. So, please read the following fully.

If you feel the following is confusing, I have mentioned the very very basic style of navigation at the bottom of this reply which I was used when I was started to use YouTube with NVDA.

Open a browser and press Ctrl + L and type or copy and paste the below url.

youtube.com/feed/subscriptions

and press enter key. It will open the subscriptions page to see the videos from the channels you have subscribed.

After the page loads, press D until you hear Main Landmark Today Heading Level 2

This puts you in the main part of the webpage.

Then pressing 3 key will help you to read the title of the first video and again pressing 3 key will read the next and so on. Pressing Shift + 3 will work in vice versa (reverse).

After moving the navigation to the video you like, press space bar key or Enter key to play the video. A new page is loaded and the selected video will start to play in the next page.

The Title of the video which is currently playing will be in Heading 1 level. So, pressing 1 or Shift + 1 will tells you the current playing video's title.

To jump to the current playing video's player controls, press D or Shift +d until NVDA says Main Landmark. Then pressing the tab key will change the controls to the slider, pause, mute, next, settings, etc. Shift + tab for moving vice versa. (Or B key to navigate by buttons such as play, pause, next, mute, etc.)

You said "When watching a video in Youtube, she used to move the mouse to the videos listed on the right side of the Youtube page and click on the mouse, to go to the next or another video. NVDA would read the content of the videos...".

For that see the following:
Pressing 3 will tell the title of the suggested videos (which is on the right side) one by one. Shift + 3 for vice versa.

Pressing Enter or Space bar will play that video.

If you feel the above was confusing, simply press H key or Shift + H key to navigate by headings (video titles). D or Shift D for Landmarks, B or Shift B for buttons such as play, pause, action, like, dislike etc.

Hope I haven't confused you much and I hope it will surely help you.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reply me (your brother). Thank you sir.

With affection
Easwar Chinraj
