What happens if you hit control+nvda+space?

Hi everyone. I am using NVDA 2019.3.1 with Windows 10 and have noticed that
when I use Firefox, NVDA gets stuck in certain frames of a Web page. These
are usually either ads or widgets for sharing to Facebook or Twitter.

I know that there are other Web browsers, and I use them when I need to, but
I do prefer Firefox and have used it for years.

The only way I can find to temporarily fix the problem is to restart NVDA,
but it only works until it finds another frame.

Just wanted to report it in case the developers might have an idea of what's
wrong.

Re: Web pages not being refreshed

This issue happens in JAWS and Chrome. The temporary fix is to refresh your screen when necessary. In JAWS this is control + escape. In NVDA, it is NVDA key + f5.

I believe that I am not the only one having problems with web pages not refreshing when using the latest version of NVDA and Google chrome.
Would it be possible for someone to create a NVDA addon to resolve this issue?

Hi don

A ticket has been created and you can comment or add a log etc.

Below is from the email and link to the ticket.

This was from one of the developers on the list.

Sorry folks, I haven't been ignoring those who have reported this to me directly.  We've had a few reports of this, and I can recreate it myself.  I hadn't yet created an issue, I was trying to investigate exactly what was going on with it.  In the meantime, someone else has created https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/10801 which seems as good a place as any to record any more info on this issue (feel free to comment on that issue if you can add any technical info, a log, etc).

apologies, in my previous message I had a brainstorm and said that NVDA

It seems to say "Unknown" on all the pages I have loaded.

I have also removed all the Mozilla and NVDA files after uninstalling
the programs, and then I have reinstalled them with no luck.

And now I also have this problem that NVDA will not see the external
sound card.

NVDA works perfectly with Chrome.

I am not sure I understand your question about the Taskbar. Firefox
shows up on there.

Microsoft's accessibility help page for Edge.

I'm sharing this because I don't think it's been shared before. I'd bookmark the below. It has some useful links and lists and more, about using the Chromium based Microsoft Edge with the keyboard. Their grammar errors bug me but I can live with it. There's even a link at the bottom to help you revert back to the old Edge.

Any real advantage to installing the Vocalizer embeded Hi versus the embeded Pro voices?

Intonation Pauses with CodeFactory Eloquence

Jonathan Milam

Hi All,

With the CodeFactory Eloquence Add-on, I am noticing that it pauses quite frequently at punctuation symbols, or between the name of the item in focus and the list of elements within.  I have tried checking and unchecking intonation pauses but that doesn’t seem to help any.  How can I eliminate these pauses permanently?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Re: Accessibility issues with latest potplayer, warn user not to upgrade to latest version

yunus Emre

Hi  William Wong,
You don't have to downgrade.
Restart potplayer several times and try f5.
When you get to preferences: find tree view, go to top, expand general, under general Skins. Press tab several times, make Context menu combox and change it to system dafult.
Context menu:  System default
And save it.
I hope it'll get fixed.
Can you tell me how do you copy current time by pressing hotkey?

You can just type %appdata%\nvda into the run dialog and get there.

There's also Explore NVDA user configuration directory in the NVDA folder in the Start menu.

Absolutely true.  And a great piece of information.   I'm just not presuming that most will be in a context where environment variables are at play when looking for it.

If you're trying to find the folder I noted earlier, and that %appdata% would get you to, in File Explorer you must have set hidden files and folders to be displayed, otherwise the AppData folder is hidden.

It is also possible to use:

%appdata%\nvda\speechDicts

to open the folder where are stored all personal dictionaries.

Re: backup speech dictionaries

I don't know where the .dic files are located in the installed version of NVDA.  In the portable version,, they are in the userconfig folder in a subfolder named speech dicts.  You can copy that folder wherever you want as a backup.  Or, you can make a portable version of your installed version and during the installation, you will be able to keep all your settings.  I don't know how it is worded, but the speech dictionaries will be backed up as part of the portable version.
