Reading characters phonetically?

Hi folks.

I'm moving across  some letters, is there a keystroke to have it read phonetically?

Re: Notepad++/NVDA compatability possible bug?

It sounds like an NVDA hang, but without seeing your log (at debugging level), it's hard to say for sure what or why.

On the same version I get no such behavior with NVDA 2019.2.1 beta.

Also when going back into NP++ from another programme there’s a similar delay.

I do not have this problem at all. The movement is instant.

Re: Notepad++ add on - getting it to work?

Aine Kelly Costello

Thanks everyone! So the add-on is working now, and I have established that the lag is with NVDA freezing, and it seems to do that consistently when I move the cursor to the top of the document - with or without the add-on enabled. I have the NVDA site version of the add-on, though, 2918.08.0 so maybe I should try the Git Hub one, I'll give that a go,

Kerryn, take a look at this page, and I believe your question will be well answered.

https://github.com/derekriemer/nvda-notepadPlusPlus

The latest version of the add-on can be downloaded here. It is technically a beta version, but it is better than the one available from nvda's normal repository.

First, where did you download it from exactly? What filename did the installer have?

Second, I don't remember you saying if you had a 64 bit or 32 bit computer. I assume 64 bit, and that you downloaded the 64 bit version of Notepad++, but some confirmation could be good.

Third, if you do as Brian said, and remove the add-on and re-install it, before you re-install can you test Notepad++ and see whether it is still slow?

Fourth, what version of the add-on are you using? Sorry if you answered that already. You can find it in the NVDA add-ons manager, by reading the entry for the add-on in the installed add-ons list.

We don't. Many of us have done the same.
One of them has been active on this list in the past month, but has not responded to private emails on the subject. Perhaps they are still trying to decide how to proceed.

There is an on-going discussion on Github, about bringing remote functionality into NVDA itself, either as an add-on or as part of core, so maybe that will be a solution ultimately.

Otherwise, if the add-on devs still have nothing to say in a while, someone in the community may choose to take it over. There is a general understanding that if contact with maintainers fails after three months, the add-on may be taken over by the community in some way.

I don’t have a view markdown gesture either. In fact, going to the input gestures dialog while notepad++ is running doesn’t show a view markdown feature is available. Maybe the devs took it out? Notepad++ runs fast for me though.

Hi list members,

Does anyone know if the developers of NVDA Remote are planning to update the addon for NVDA 2019.3? I have emailed the developers, but they have not responded.

Re: Notepad++ add on - getting it to work?

I would definitely uninstall any and all NVDA add-ons related to Notepad++ and then reinstall them now that you actually have Notepad++ on your system.  That might be a part of your lag problem, and this might fix it.

Perhaps do you have to have the English US keyboard enabled for the add-on to work at all?

I type alt + shift + / which is the question mark.

You can also use F1 (passed through, of course) to bring up the About dialog in Notepad++

Alt,?,A  (and to be clear it is ALT followed by question mark followed by A, it's not a 2 or 3-key simultaneous press) works just fine, too.

Re: NVDA compatibility concern with M.S. office

The Windows 7 part, check.   I presume you mean Office 2007, and if you do that version has been out of support for a very long time now. You need to upgrade your Office installation independent of anything else.  There are all sorts of potential compatibility issues that come from Office 2007 and earlier that are not present in the later versions.

You did not give the NVDA version number, which is essential.  NVDA+N,H,A will get you the "About NVDA" dialog which gives the Version number.
