Re: another thunderbird issue with focus loss this time

It is a dangerous security breach to allow remote content. You will
allow bugs that can track you to be installed if you ever open a spam message by
mistake, a lot of such messages have tracking bugs. You will allow images
and other content to run that may have malware. Do not do
this.
If you don’t know what the effects of lowering such settings are, don’t do
it. Ask here or look up information, but don’t just lower such settings
without knowing what they do. Go back to an earlier version of the program
or Try to solve the problem in other ways. In this case, going back
involves creating a new profile. I don’t know what is involved or how
difficult it is. The work and inconvenience may be more than the problem
you are trying to solve. I don’t know. I’ll let others discuss that,
but change the external content setting bacdk to what it was, not to allow
it. Perhaps setting the program not to use the spam filter or to not send
anything to the spam folder might solve the problem if it is the junk diallog
you are trying to eliminate. I don’t know if there are such settings, but
checck thoroughly.
I have said in the past that you shouldn’t just let the program update any
time it feels like doing so. Maybe now, people will start to listen.
Set the program not to update and don’t do so until some time goes by so you
know if you see problems and complaints reported by others who have
updated. You would have saved yourself a lot of problems by doing
this.
There may be programs where it is important to let the program
update. A browser may be one. An e-mail ;program isn’t such a
program. If you update now or a week from now, won’t matter.

Re: google chrome version 81

I can confirm that. Something must be broken between the Adobe plugin and Chrome 81. I changed the default PDF app for viewing PDF files to Microsoft Edge for now and it is fast as well.

JAWS does the same, so I assume something changed in Chrome. On the other hand, VoiceOver for Mac with Chrome 81 reads PDF documents as well as ever. Is this a change that NVDA and other screen readers will need to adapt to, or is it a Chrome bug? Can others reproduce it? Note that I'm not using an external PDF reader; this is entirely with the PDF processor included in Chrome. I can of course use Adobe Reader dC instead, although Chrome was until recently giving me better results on a range of PDF files. Try going to Tools, Account Settings, Junk Settings, and unchecking Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account.

Hi Jan,
Word should work with NVDA out of the box. There are many add-ons and some may help with the way you work, just as there are several ways to accomplish most tasks in word and some will work better for different people than others. We have a training module covering most features of Word which you may be interested in: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/microsoft-word-training-for-nvda-ebook/ It's only $30 AUD on its own, or you can buy it as part of the NVDA Productivity Bundle, which includes Word, as well as our other modules and telephone support: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/nvda-productivity-bundle/
Kind regards
Quentin.

I've found that clicking in the dialog or just tabbing around helps, but I can't give specifics as I've only ever encountered this software on examination laptops.

There is another issue that has cropped up since the update today. I find it works lovely here. I don't have any issues with it not reporting anything that matters. I still get the alert text when new messages arrive, so I'm not sure what information is being left out that someone wants.

Re: Thunderbird talking way too much
Hmmm I enabled it but it told me when I was doing everything, I wish I could customise things, maybe have all that extra text being put into sounds, and then a way for me to put a different sound with each event, and so on then in case I sat on my board or screwed up I'd probably know about it.

Well I think someone should report this, the biggest issue with disabling status is that nvda does not read the progress on incomming mail, so you don't know when things are coming or going only hear they are.

I must of just got a update this morning. The first time I checked the emails etc no extra verbage. Just opened it now and am getting what you said as in it will tell you it is downloading messages from your accounts and how many. I just hit the ctrl key at present when it done that. Just been reading some messages it will tell you the amount of unread messages etc and when you delete them etc Will have more of a sus but I think apart from when it goes to download the messages I probably do not mind the rest been spoken. Will also check if the status bar is disabled will it be spoken then? I am guessing for messages been deleted it will. Gene nz

Narrator definitely works on Windows 10 installation media. I haven't tried any of the recovery or repair tools that might be available within that environment, but I would expect them to be accessible these days.
