Janet Brandly
Hello Quentin,
Thank you for getting back to me. I’ll hang on to this information and will check into it further if I get the job I’m after.

From: nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> On Behalf Of Quentin Christensen
Hi Jan,
Word should work with NVDA out of the box. There are many add-ons and some may help with the way you work, just as there are several ways to accomplish most tasks in word and some will work better for different people than others. We have a training module covering most features of Word which you may be interested in: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/microsoft-word-training-for-nvda-ebook/ It's only $30 AUD on its own, or you can buy it as part of the NVDA Productivity Bundle, which includes Word, as well as our other modules and telephone support: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/nvda-productivity-bundle/
Kind regards
Quentin.

Re: Max Audio Pro problem
Sascha Cowley
I've found that clicking in the dialog or just tabbing around helps, but I can't give specifics as I've only ever encountered this software on examination laptops.

Hi all. I discovered a small but annoying problem with my computer. It is a Dell inspiron and it has the Max Pro Audio interface. So when you plug something audio related into the computer, it pops up a dialog asking what device you just plugged in. Jaws will read this list, but NVDA will not. Ideally, I would like to uninstall this little middleman of a program, but failing that, does anyone know of a way to get NVDA to read this dialog?

another thunderbird issue with focus loss this time
Mary Otten
There is another issue that has cropped up since the update today. If you arrow in your message list and hit a message that t-bird thinks might be junk, some sort of box comes up informing you of that fact and offering choices, one of which is a button labeled "not junk". Press space on that, and what I expect to happen would be that I'd be put back in my messages list. But what seems to happen is that I'm some how stuck in the first part of the message that t-bird thought might be junk. I can't get out of that. The only thing I can do is close the app and re-open. What a waste of time! I've never seen this dialogue before about what t-bird thinks is junk, and I don't want to see it. If I think it is junk, I'll act accordingly, and don't need an app interfering. How can I get rid of that?

I find it works lovely here. I don't have any issues with it not reporting anything that matters. I still get the alert text when new messages arrive, so I'm not sure what information is being left out that someone wants.

Re: Thunderbird talking way too much
Hmmm I enabled it but it told me when I was doing everything, I wish I could customise things, maybe have all that extra text being put into sounds, and then a way for me to put a different sound with each event, and so on then in case I sat on my board or screwed up I'd probably know about it.

Well I think someone should report this, the biggest issue with disabling status is that nvda does not read the progress on incomming mail, so you don't know when things are coming or going only hear they are.

Hello,
I’m looking for tips/tricks for working with Word. Are there any specific addons I should have? Also, are there specific hotkeys to navigate to and correct spelling and grammar errors? Any help is appreciated
Thanks,

I must of just got a update this morning. The first time I checked the emails etc no extra verbage. Just opened it now and am getting what you said as in it will tell you it is downloading messages from your accounts and how many. I just hit the ctrl key at present when it done that. Just been reading some messages it will tell you the amount of unread messages etc and when you delete them etc Will have more of a sus but I think apart from when it goes to download the messages I probably do not mind the rest been spoken. Will also check if the status bar is disabled will it be spoken then? I am guessing for messages been deleted it will. Gene nz

Narrator definitely works on Windows 10 installation media. I haven't tried any of the recovery or repair tools that might be available within that environment, but I would expect them to be accessible these days.

Thunderbird talking way too much
Yeah to the poster on here with the issue with thunderbird 68.7, the statusbar is quite verbose, stating extra information at the end of the message.
Now in outlook I get a list of messages and I get unread or read at the start depending if they are, but right now the statuses say their bits after the fact with a pause. So yeah the status bar is off. Now if they change it so it says everything at the beginning or better yet get it so you can have things make noise if they are read or not then we can use sound cues which are less intrusive.

Re: google chrome version 81
Jason White
If I open a PDF file in Chrome 81, NVDA describes it as an "embedded object", then fails to read it. JAWS does the same, so I assume something changed in Chrome. On the other hand, VoiceOver for Mac with Chrome 81 reads PDF documents as well as ever.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Is this a change that NVDA and other screen readers will need to adapt to, or is it a Chrome bug? Can others reproduce it? Note that I'm not using an external PDF reader; this is entirely with the PDF processor included in Chrome. I can of course use Adobe Reader dC instead, although Chrome was until recently giving me better results on a range of PDF files.
