Installing add ons to the most recent version of NVDA
Jim Stanga
Hello:
I have installed the most recent version of NVDA. (not sure how to confirm the version number) When I go to the Addons manager I cannot seem to install the new addons. I go to get Addons but nothing happens when I open the file. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Windows 10, NVDA 2019.3.1 and Code Factory Eloquence Add-on
Marcia Yale
Is there a known problem with the above? A friend of mine can't change any
of the speech settings. They're stuck and are not changing. There was a different list of settings we found when we installed the add-on but we can't seem to get back to those. And changing any of the normal list of speech settings is not doing anything. Help appreciated! Marcia Yale It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. Audre Lorde

I totally agree with you, Brian, 100 percent. I wish I had something like a practice area of using the discussion board in blackboard before it actually came time to use it. I’ve been discussing with the accessibility council here in the state I’m living in. Also, in order for me to show someone what accessibility challenges I am encountering in the discussion board they’d need my username and password, not something I am willing to give.

It really helps as well to have an actual page to look at to try to figure out what's going on. In this case, I imagine that would mean having to be enrolled. Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

It really helps as well to have an actual page to look at to try to figure out what's going on. In this case, I imagine that would mean having to be enrolled.
That being said, this is why I encourage screen-reader users to communicate to entities like universalclass.com that they need to have a couple of sample pages of the various types of materials available for practice that anyone can get to before they are actually enrolled in anything. That should be a basic thing that anyone offering online classes should do. I've had to yell at several local community colleges and universities about the fact that they have nothing available under their course management systems that is a sandbox for anyone to play in. It's hard enough getting into college courses to begin with, but you're really behind the 8-ball when you are a screen reader user and have never had any way to practice with sample materials so you don't have to "learn as you go" regarding the structure and style of the system in use. Folks gotta raise their voices about this issue. And throwing out mention of the ADA as part of that yelling generally doesn't hurt. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

And that's not just for Zoom meetings. There's been other good info offered telling folks that you don't need a Zoom account to join a meeting for which you've been issued an invitation and have the link and, I believe, meeting code for. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Re: Outlook 365 and announcements of table view table" in message list
Gene
If turning off announcement of tables doesn't work, you can try using
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
the speech dictionary. Perhaps trying a phrase like table view and typing a space in the pronounced as field would stop the speech. Gene

Sorry, you didn't say what method you are using to navigate. I expect though that NVDA is either setting focus or mouse to the location it is going over, and that is causing a JavaScript to activate and change the screen. If you are trying to read the content of the page when this is occurring , perhaps using the review cursor read all function numpad plus might help.

Hi,
Thanks to everyone’s help, the table headers problem in Outlook is fixed. Now, I need to figure out how to stop NVDA from saying ‘table view table’ when I end up on the message list. I tried turning off tables in the document formatting and report descriptions in the object formatting settings, but no luck

Re: Please join Zoom meeting in progress

You don’t need an account if your intention is to sign into a room to which
you have been invited. You won’t see anything regarding settings if you
aren’t signed into a room. That is without an account. With an
account, I don’t know if there is a way to see settings.
Once you have access to the interface, you can tab around and hear things
read. There are short cuts you can use, but I almost never have used Zoom
and I don’t know them. Since I have almost never used it, I won’t go into
more discussion of how to use it.
The main thing I’m concerned with is that you know that you don’t need an
account under the conditions I specified and that you can tab around and see
various options.

Hello there,
I am having a problem where NVDA skips around on universalclass.com. I am trying to take an exam and the screen reader tends to just jump around the whole page. I would appreciate any ideas to possibly fix this. -- Scott Berry Medical Office Assistant Associates in Allied health Patient Advocate

Re: Outlook 365 and message list
Gene
To stop this really annoying and endlessly repetitious behavior, uncheck
Report table row/column headers in Document formatting settings.
Couldn’t NVDA somehow be programmed to recognize these sorts of e-mail
structures and not announce them unless the user specifies that they should be
announced? This behavior also occurs in Windows Live Mail. I haven’t
experimented with other e-mail programs.

Hi,
How do I keep NVDA 2020 from reading the header titles in the message list of Outlook? For example, it reads ‘status: unread’, ‘from: whoever’, ‘subject: the subject’, … I want the message list to act more like it does in JAWS. All JAWS does is read the entire row. Example: ‘unread. The sender the subject date received size’. NVDA seems too verbose here.
