Re: Switching between 6 and 8 dot UEB: is this possible?

Ikrami

UEB is a 6-dot braille code only, there is no 8-dot version of it. You can though switch to the US 8-dot computer braille.

Subject: [nvda] Switching between 6 and 8 dot UEB: is this possible?

Hello all,

I want to switch between 6 and 8 dot Unified English Braille. Is this possible to do? I took a look at the table list in NVDA’S braille settings but can only find 6 dot tables for computer braille. I’m looking for literary braille.

Thanks in advance all,

Doug

Re: NVDA and speaking Capital letter

brian, in espeak, how can i set it to pronunce capital letters as small letters?
for example: if all or most letters in words are in capital letters,
nvda reads them letter by letter.
for example:
UP arrow, ENd, TAB, etc.

On 6/1/20, Brian Vogel <britechguy@gmail.com> wrote:

dacks. There is no way, under the rules of English phonotactics that SPX
can be pronounced as a word. It has to be rendered letter by letter.
Another example is NASA, which can be pronounced as a word, versus LPG,
which cannot.

I know of regular expressions you could use to recognize all capital letter
acronyms in a fixed number of characters, say 3 or 4 or 5, and pronounce
those as their individual letters, but I do not know how to do this for an
indeterminate number of sequential capital letters. You'd also have to be
somewhat careful about this, since it can quickly drive you crazy if you're
reading a document that has lots of pronouncable acronyms and you end up
having them broken into letters every time. It would drive me insane to
hear NASA pronounced as N A S A were I reading anything that refers to the
U.S. National Aeronautical and Space Administration repeatedly by its
well-known acronym.

Sorry if interrupted this thread but, just curious.

What exactly does with SpeechHub differs from eSpeak?

Do they have other voices as well?

The regular expression you are rfering to is like this, if like 3 capital letters going together.

([A-Z])([A-Z])([A-Z])

Phillipe,

I could find one, and only one, message on the NVDA Development Group regarding Band In A Box, Question about writing AppModule for band-in-a-box, and it's quite recent.  This is one of those things that appears to have interest in its infancy.

Not that I don't wish you luck, I do, but I have my doubts about anyone who uses NVDA and NVDA alone having much interaction with BIAB because it requires add-on(s) that are not yet in existence for reasonably full accessibility.

NVDA and speaking Capital letter

William

Hi,

I use Windows onecore voices to speak English. sometimes when it come across some letters that put together in Capital, e.g. SPX, it can read individually by speaking as S P X. but some letters, e.g. DAX, it will try to speak it as a whole word but not individually.

Any underlying rules of which word will speak individually and which word will speak as a whole?

At this point, I know I can only add speech dic for each individual word to change the way

 how nvda speak.

nvda speak. but is there a way to tell nvda to process all capital letter as individual letter, like that of the number processing addon?

Thanks,William

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your message.

I’m a user of reaper and former user of sonar.

Band in a box it’s not for the same use.

I bought the 2019 version and I’m using with Jaws 2019 and a dedicated scripte.

I plan to leave from Jaws to NVDA and I would lioe to know is someone can use band in a box 2019 with NVDA.

I try it and whe have access to the different menus but not on the chord sheet which the main interest.

I had a lok on the adon list for NVDA and I don’t find easily if there is something linked to band in a box.

A+

I know you've asked specifically about Band In A Box, but have you considered other DAWs like Reaper or Cakewalk Sonar?

It does not look like there are any existing NVDA add-ons for Band In A Box.   Both Reaper and Cakewalk Sonar are less expensive to buy.  Reaper is currently offering a temporary free license in response to the Covid-19 situation, and there is a dedicated group for blind Reaper users called Reapers Without Peepers.

Hi!
As an amateur musician I'd love to know this too. I've been
considering having a good look at Band In A Box for some time now, but
while my schedule would allow it in principle, I want to spend that
time on exploring the musical capabilities rather than the
accessibility shortcomings of the software. There's only so many extra
hoops you want to jump through during your spare time.
Best,

Re: Question regarding connect remote computer or laptop

TeamViewer, one of he biggest names in remote access software, is perfectly fine to use.  All remote access software poses some risk.

But, if you're not looking at NVDA Remote, you could give UltraViewer a look and a try.  I know a number of technicians (all sighted) who really like it, but I have absolutely no idea about its accessibility or lack thereof.  It has been around for a long time and is freeware, so it's a commitment of only your time and effort, and that of your partner, to make determinations regarding accessibility.

If you're on Windows 10 I'd also suggest playing around with the Quick Assist built-in.  It works incredibly well in my experience but, again, I've been using it "in sighted mode" on my end when giving assistance, no with a screen reader running on top of it, which is why you'd have to play around to see how accessible it is or is not.
