Re: One Issue with Web Form and Another with a Program Installer

Some forms have issues,

Sometimes you will have to exit forms mode and move down to the next field.

Sometimes the forms themselves are badly coded.

Setting things up that say setup.

It could be a self extracter and you hit the space button and they work or a visual installer.

If its a visual installer, chances are you can probably still extract it with something like 7zip, and run the setup inside the installer itself and its ok or use nvda ocr or narator on it.

Chance is you can still use alt n for next, alt b for back, alt c for cancel, alt i for install or alt s for start, alt y or n for licence aggreements.

I do get different language installers that do this to.

Ibrahim, I subscribed to that website and then followed your link and
had the exact same experience. I tried using JAWS and had the same
results. It would be surprising to me if anyone could navigate such
an inaccessible website. If, by chance, the program your trying to
install is the Bluestacks android emulater, it too is inaccessible. At
least it was the last time I tried to install it. The Android OS is
open source, and that's a good thing, however it also means there are
no accessibility standards imposed on programmers and they may be
totally unaware that accessibility code exists. Anyway, more
experienced NVDA users may have answers for you.

Good luck,

Unfortunately, I'm not a member at the Android Central forums.  Let's hope someone else here is.

It is possible for you to try doing a reply on the Groups.io web interface to this very topic, to see if you have the same issue with the rich text editor?  That would at least let us know whether the issue is site specific or not.

Re: One Issue with Web Form and Another with a Program Installer

Gene is correct with regard to the original topic title, "Contact," being completely non-specific and unrelated to the actual issues.  This is the very reason that NVDA Group Rule #4 came into existence:

4.  Think very carefully about the title you are going to give any topic you post.  The topic is the first (and, sometimes, only) thing a member sees and that may be how they decide if they’re going to look further.   Generic titles, such as “Help Me!,” are not helpful because they give no idea about what.  Compare that to something like, “NVDA not reading Excel cell contents,” or, “NVDA setting for pronouncing numbers,” where the exact issue where help is needed is front and center.   Even something like, “Need help with the following . . .,” lets the reader know that you are going to present a list of issues.

But since I needed to merge Gene's message into the original topic, which blew away his attempt to create a more descriptive title, I had to give it another.  Please make subsequent responses using this message, or any other afterward with the full descriptive title, as the thing you reply to.

Re: Screen Curtain: September 6th build, preparing for future NVDA releases #addonrelease

Hi,

So far, no.

Windows 10 App Essentials 19.09.2, extending support for Version 1903 #addonrelease

Hi all,

Windows 10 App Essentials 19.09.2 is now available. This one builds on 19.09.1 by detecting upcoming Version 1909 on more computers.

Important notice regarding Version 1903 and 1909 support: typically a feature update is supported by this add-on for fifteen months or so. In case of Version 1903, support began in March 2019 and was scheduled to end  in July 2020. However, due to special circumstances regarding Version 1909 (codenamed 19H2), I’m extending support for 1903 until December 2020, at which point Version 1909 will also be retired (support for 1909 from this add-on began in August 2019).

Typically, a feature update for Windows 10 is a brand new Windows release. However, Version 1909 is considered a “service pack” or a minor feature update on top of Version 1903. Although it’ll carry a build number higher than 18362, system components still show 18362 as build number.

Because of this, for 1903 and 1909, a special exception will be granted in regards to support duration from Windows 10 App Essentials add-on, given that both are really the same version of Windows 10 with feature flags on (1909) or off (1903). This exception is applicable to stable releases, not to development releases which will continue to follow traditional support duration policy.

Dates:

  • August 2019: Version 1909 support began.
  • July 2020: support for Version 1903 will be “removed” from development releases (essentially, all that will change is minimum Windows version flag).
  • Add-on 20.12.x (December 2020: last release to support Version 1903 and 1909.
  • January 2021: support for 1903 and 1909 will be removed from the add-on.

Cheers,

Joseph

In about an hour from now Screen Curtain September 6th build will be released. This build is important because it includes a good news and a bad news (depending on how you view it):

  • Good news: Screen Curtain add-on is ready for NVDA 2019.3 (alpha form).
  • Bad news: this will be one of the last builds of this add-on.

As for this being a bad news for Screen Curtain add-on, not entirely a bad news: Screen Curtain add-on has found a new home, and that is latest NVDA alpha snapshot. As part of this transplantation, Leonard de Ruijter (the author behind routines in this add-on and allowing me to package his work as an add-on for field testing) rewrote major portions of screen curtain facility. Thus, if you are using latest NVDA 2019.3 alpha snapshot, today’s Screen Curtain add-on release will recognize this and not load itself.

As for today’s release being one of the last releases of Screen Curtain add-on: yes, although it won’t be until NVDA 2019.3 stable version is released that this add-on will be declared end of life. This is because there might be changes that will require me to adjust end of life strategy for this add-on. The repo will not be removed from my GitHub so people can study it once the add-on ceases active development.

Re: Buttons and links not reading.

You probably got that damn optional update then support told you to reinstall windows.

Sadly windows10 at least from latest release or even before in some situations is not as atable like it once was.

The fact, that I was reduced from a good system to a total reformat to make a problem go away which is not generated by me is proof that windows as a serviced os has some disadvantages.

I am not saying go back to the older model but I do think for those that want it there should be an lts windows like mozilla stuff is.

That way you could get the latest lts, even have an option use it and update security till you had to update to the latest.

And while I don't mind the twice yearly updates, after my experience, I could go back to the older system way of doing things I think.

Chantelle, please try going to ease of access center, then click on
"use the computer without a display", & let's see if that helps.

Hi.

Well, narrator says link and button.

I hate narrator though, drives me up a wall.

I can download the NVDA remote then you can see what it does.

Is there a setting that I have to change?

Monte, before putting another program on your machine, might I suggest
going to your control panel, add & remove programs, & see if you can
find any having to do w/sendspace. That might solve the problem w/o
the need of additional security software.

If not, feel free to contact me off list & let's see if we can't get you sorted.

Monte,

I'd suggest using an adware scanner or malware scanner.   Malwarebytes,
AdwCleaner (a dedicated, and free tool by the makers of Malwarebytes), and
Zemana Antimalware all spring to mind.   I cannot speak to the accessibility
of any of those since I have not yet needed to work with them with any
clients.
