Hi there: Why don’t you google it? I’m not sure when evernot came about. If you are still using xp and liking it. Just google it.  The reason I say this. People wil tell you that xp is too old and not secure enough.  If you know someone who will google it or you have some other device that you can use. Just google  your question.

Re: what addons can i get with the most recent version of NVDA?

Hi,

I see. The most likely explanation is that, somewhere in the installation process, the add-on thinks you are running an older Windows 10 release, which isn’t clearly the case.

Cheers,

Joseph

I don't know bout the other commands you are discussing, I don't use Outlook. But alt 1 through 6 are JAWS commands. The NVDA add-on uses similar alt plus number commands. Such commands have been used by JAWS in various e-mail programs for years. And sighted people can see all these fields and don't need such commands.

I suppose I could give that a try, but really, these are keystroke commands native to Outlook itself so in theory, an add-on shouldn’t be needed. That and they do work perfectly well with Jaws.

Ok. So I first checked the add-ons I did have installed and low-and-behold,
they were all incompatible with this version of NVDA (most current version).
I went ahead and uninstalled them and did a restart of NVDA.

Now, running NVDA wit no add-ons installed, it appears that I can now do the
alt+I and alt+U to get to the location and subject fields in both the
calendar and messages of Outlook, but the alt+` (grauv) to jump to either
message body or notes section in either the calendar or contact entry etc.
still doesn’t work anywhere. Same goes for the Alt+1 through 6 on the top
number row. Alt+7 invokes some weird mouse command

I mean, I’m not being hyperbolic when I say I send countless emails a day
and am always in the calendar checking this, doing that, creating etc. so
for me and my workflow, this really is sort of a dealbreaker. Eliminating I
don’t know how many tabs and shift tabs throughout the day for example is
invaluable for my time and sanity with these keystrokes.

I’d like to use NVDA more in my business, but without this functionality, it
would be tough.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Cristóbal

Can you try restarting with add-ons disabled? If Outlook commands work after
this, chances are that it might be an add-on or two that might be
interfering with outlook commands.

Hello list,

I’m mainly a Jaws user, but time to time, I use NVDA for the odd task or if
Jaws is giving me problems or whatever.

I’m also a heavy Outlook user (V 2016). I’m noticing an issue with certain
keystroke commands that appear to conflict with NVDA and Outlook and was
wondering if it’s just me or if it really is an issue for others.

For example, alt+I while in a calendar will take you to the location field
where you can enter in address location of the appointment. Alt+U takes you
to the subject field be it in a calendar appointment or message. Alt+`
(grov) takes you to the message field/notes section. Alt+1 or 2 or 3 etc.
takes you to the various header fields like from, to, cc, bcc, subject…
These all work fine with Jaws and to the best of my knowledge, are not
screen reader specific commands, but rather Outlook’s.

These commands don’t appear to work with NVDA however. They seem to invoke
some mouse commands or just don’t work period.

I use Outlook all day for my business which is very email and
calendar-centric. So, being able to use shortcuts like these are a huge
time saver and really essential for how I work.

Am I perhaps missing something or is this really an NVDA compatibility
issue?

Thanks,

Cristóbal

It is checked by default. You may want to chedk it but its already on if you didn't change it.

Also, from the description in the manual, I doubt the command is relevant. Of course, you may want to try toggling it to see what happens. Description follows:
Handle keys from other applications
This option allows the user to control if key presses generated by applications such as on-screen keyboards and speech recognition software should be processed by NVDA. This option is on by default, though certain users may wish to turn this off, such as those typing Vietnamese with the UniKey typing software as it will cause incorrect character input.

Do yu want to pay something? I don't know what is available in general, but NVDA sells instructional material about NVDA and it includes using different methods of navigation. I haven't heard the material so I can't comment on it, but as I recall, a list member a number of weeks ago, gave a link to a sample of the material on sale which deals with one way of navigation using NVDA.

Re: Accessible note taking apps

Gabriel Pires Bonagio

Hello.
I use Notepad++ for programming purposes only, but it can be used for notetaking if you're really willing to make a very organized environment by yourself. It takes a good amount of effort, though. That's why notetaking apps exist, and they have so many diverse features.
I personally used Gooogle Keep both on my Android phone and in web, with Firefox, but it got inaccessible somewhere down the road, so I switched to the old school Notepad on Windows. Several weeks ago, i tried Google Keep with Chrome and it is pretty accessible again. More accessible than it was before, I could say.
You can label notes pretty easily, and link them in different ways based on those labels. Since it's web based, you can search them either through your browser's search function, or NVDA's. If you paste an URL, it links it so you can just click and voila.
I've only had trouble so far dealing with lists. Either it's not accessible or I'm doing something wrong. And for the purpose of exporting to plain text or HTML, it won't supply your needs with a press of a button, but you can always select the whole content of the edit box, copy it and paste it on a Notepad window pretty easily. I find it even easier than downloading stuff all the time.
Again, it's web based, so you won't be able to use it when you're offline, but something tells me that Chrome has some way of storing the page in cache, so you can load it whenever you're under a rock lol. And I encourage you to try using it with other browsers as well, just to see if they behave a little better, or worse or anything different.

Regards.

Quentin,

I currently use latest Win10, Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.450) together with NVDA 2020.2. But again, I have that kind of behavior since years independently of the version of Win10 or NVDA.

I can’t reproduce it on my virtual machines running Win10. Until last week I had the same issue on my Dell company laptop but since last week our corporate IT policy updated our OS from 1803 to 1809 I can’t reproduce it anymore.

It doesn’t bother me at all, I just brought it up since another user of NVDA mentioned the same behaviour. It must be something special on my PC. I will create  / test a new user to see if it is something with my profile….

I just tried and when I press CONTROL+ALT+N, the copy of NVDA which started automatically on login exits cleanly and the new copy starts.  What version of NVDA and Windows are you using though?

I am using Windows 10 (64-bit) Version: 1903 Build 18362

Running NVDA version: alpha-20763,1ef4dfb0

That's probably not the most usual combination though (My Windows 10 keeps hitting an error updating and I haven't taken the time to reformat it).  So if you're using a different version of Windows and / or NVDA your mileage might vary.  If anyone else tries this, please do share your version of Windows and NVDA and whether NVDA restarts cleanly or leaves an icon in the notification area.
