Hello Robert,
I am new to the list, however I am excited to be here and hope to be able to add my two pennies every now and then in a way that helps. So, I would maybe try to first restart File Explorer to see if that makes a difference at all, this is under your Task Manager with the show more option, arrow down to, "Windows Explorer," no, they haven't changed the name to File Explore, hit your application key and arrow down to restart. 
The other thing to check is if all of your screen resolutions and display settings are set to default.
Lastly, you can go into the Explorer settings and select explorer to open up in the Tree view when activated.

Announcing Capital Letters

I am new to NVDA and recognise this is a basic question, however, I cannot seem to get NVDA to give me feedback with regard to if I am typing capital letters which is a concern as caps lock may be on by accident.

Please confirm settings to be ticked and how to ensure settings are saved in case this is the issue.

  • Dev channel is NOT stable nor beta.

 

In terms of NVDA development workflow:

  • Canary: source code level development.

Which is exactly what needs to be done, and a great example to set.  As a former software developer I can say, with absolute certainty, that you can't fix bugs that you don't know about.  That's why reporting same is essential.  And very often it's only after some critical mass is reached with regard to same/similar complaints that they get looked at.  You get a lot of bug reports that are due to user error, not a bug, but a pattern generally confirms a bug, or at the very least something that needs to be corrected.

I've reported this to Microsoft, as well as my own issue. Sometimes, when I load a page, nothing gets read, at all. I hope this gets sorted out before the official release. But, yeah. I reported these bugs to Microsoft through Edge. I hope you do the same.

Microsoft Edge Dev Issues

Hi Group,

I am using NVDA latest version and I have just tried Microsoft Edge Dev (the chrome based version) on my Windows 10 latest update version.

While it shows some definite improvements, I have been having an issue where it locks up the speech and even the system on heavily crowded pages such as Tune In and Instacart.

Has anyone else seen this and if so, what could be causing the issues?

It could very easily be a small corruption in the Windows 10 installation that, for whatever reason, is only interacting with NVDA and not JAWS.

Any time you see strange issues such as this one, and particularly after a Windows Update, there are a number of steps you could take.  In this case I'd try the following two, in order, and if the first one fixes the issue then stop:

1. Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10 


2. 
Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

I just looked at the setting in the advanced category.  I don't think it applies, but if the check box is checked, uncheck it.  I doubt you ever changed the setting but I was trying to think of something that might apply.
 
Also, though I don't think it would make any difference, have you tried changing the window, maximizing it if it isn't, or restoring it if it isn't?

Getting information about justified text in Libreoffice-Writer

Hello all,
I am trying to migrate from Microsoft Word to Libreoffice-Writer, but
I found some issue about format.
I wrote a paragraph and selected it. Afterwards, I go to Format menu,
align, justify. I supposed the text was justified.
But how to verify this condition? Using NVDA+F8, I got some
information about formats, but between then there's nothing about
alignment.
So I ask: having formated text to be justified, how to make NVDA inform it?

This is very strange as it seems NVDA specific if Jaws is reading the tree view fine.

As a workaround you could consider using Explorer ++  as a temporary alternative to File Explorer. At least that will let you navigate between your different drives.

Explorer ++ can either replace File Explorer or work alongside it.

It is free and in many ways better than File Explorer anyway.

This sounds like a buffer overflow problem to me.  I don't know what the solution may be.  it sounds as though the problem doesn't occur in Internet Explorer.  I would suggest trying Chrome.  You can import book marks into Chrome, but as far as Internet Explorer is concerned, while you can do it as well, Internet Explorer is old and I doubt it will be supported for more than a year or two. 
 
If others don't have suggestions that solve the problem, I would suggest trying Chrome.

NVDA starts reading web pages by default.Just turn off Automatic Say All on page load in browse mode settings.

As for the crash there can be various reasons.

It can be corrupted system files, low end hardware ,Windows bug or issues of NVDA itself.

Please provide more information.

Which site cannot be read?

Can you reproduce it and attach a log file.

Due to the fact that I've happened to faced what you have, too, I've decided to switch to Google Chrome. That's saved me from such a behaviour of the screen reader. Do not be sorry for your bookmarks. Don't despair. Grab Chrome and have a try. Although I use Windows 7, 64 bit, it's all the same with Firefox. Chrome is much better for me.
