New member having issues with NVCA.
Connie Mohney <cmohney1961@...>
Good afternoon all,
My name is Connie. My son and I downloaded NVDA yesterday. I thought we had saved a voice I liked and could understand. Unfortunately we didn't. Could I have assistance getting the voice back I can understand please? I need step by step directions as I'm not familiar with this screen reader. Thank you in advance for your responses. Connie

Yes, I’ve seen this before. I just check the check box. I’ve seen this with another screen reader as well when I beta tested it.

Hi Group,
When I boot the computer, NVDA 2019.3 RC 2 seems to lock up or unload. This issue did not occur in any previous version of NVDA either stable or beta. I hear NVDA start and then it stops speaking. I wait a minute or so and press some reading keys--such as insert + T for title. With no speech, if I press the hotkey to start NVDA, it starts. Is anyone else seeing this issue?

Alpine and Pico (fwd)
Christopher Gray
Hello:
I brought up the issue below last June but aside from some related discussion never got anywhere about using this software on Windows with NVDA. I really need some assistance with this issue to make a full transition to NVDA. Software is alpine for Windows and Pico, also for Windows. It is not exactly that the software doesn't work at all, but it only partly works. For example, in editing a message, I can usually get speech in the text, but there is no braille. Sometimes while editing, when I move down line by line I get no text, but I do get text moving up line by line after moving down. In the menu of messages, I can't see the messages at all. Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to get this software to work with NVDA. It only shows a blank screen for me. Pico is particularly portable and I'm betting that the two programs have the same screen issues since they were written by the same source. I haven't attached it here but sending it via email should be very simple. Is there a way I can try to diagnose this? Or, might somebody be willing to look at this who knows more about thwat they are doing? Many thanks. It seems in the Rc release under general settings then Automatically start NVDA after I log on to Windows check box has become unchecked it will need to be checked again. So maybe there is something in the RC release that un checks it? I thought they had fixed that bug it did not show in the betas. I got caught out with it 2 thought the computer was not booting up correctly. Gene nz

Hi, tried the updated NVDA, its working fine, but the addon I mostly use is not working, I usually play fighting games and I use to learn the movelist by using the file reader addon, sadly, no one is working on the addon to make it compatible with the latest NVDA.

You guys are complaining about spending $70 on a voice? I remember when you had to spend $200 or more likely $500 for a good voice like decTalk or keyNote gold. So why are you complaining? If you have windows10, the oneCore voices work excellent and support many languages. ESpeak also sounds good if you set its voice correctly or the way you like it. And that $70 from www.atguys.com gives you both eloquence with all its voices and vocalizer with all of its voices. So $70 is a really really good deal as far as buying voices is concerned.

Hello,

if I have to be honest, I'm desperate about just this thing! I wish that day would never come. From what I understand, it is necessary to cancel the old activation, update NVDA and the Vocalizer driver and then reactivate it. I really hope that things have improved, because if the license is not renewed automatically, I foresee a disaster. There are many elderly people who have no idea of their credentials, as long as the computer speaks. Set it up once and away. Over the years someone has certainly lost the data, in short, I really pray to Rui Fontes and the developers to make renewal of the license as simple as possible. ps: this message is translated on fly with google translate, hope it is clear. 2020-02-04 17:45 GMT+01:00, Gerardo Corripio <gera1027@gmail.com>:

Hello,
I am trying to install Open Audible using NVDA, not the beta but the latest stable release. The set-up wizard seems to be inaccessible and I've also tried other screen readers with the same result. I must be missing something, so could someone kindly tell me what I need to do? Thanks. Dotty Martin

Re: NVDA 2019.3 RC 2 is released
Hmmm, to be honest compaired to the range of voices, the 70 dollar cost for the vocaliser and eloquence addon is fine for what they are. For sapi eloquence is 70 dollars and for vocaliser its 115. I remind all users thats for every language and voice if you buy via atguys at least. If you want something a bit better or performance based the orpheus voice high quality can be nice though a bit low volume, search for orpheus on the net. But if you want to be all nostelgic, the old orpheus voice from miridian1 sounds like at least in synth mode like the older gemini or juno synths from dolphin computer access or dolphin oceanic back then.
They also can run quite fast. If you want something a bit better maxiaids does have at least on its books the neospeech paul and kate voices from 2011. These are 116 dollars us. Everything else can be gotten from nextup for 35 bucks a voice. Cereproc has 25 dollars per voice and 10 dollars for novelty voices. But its per voice not a lot. Readspeaker which was neospeech offers a subscription for about 300 dollars a sapi voice because of quality. The realspeak original version sapi voices are still about. Rh voice on github has a sapi voice and its ok. On windows their speech platform while having a few shortcomings at least is clear. If none of these works, email enablerehab@..., and pay what you want for the dectalk sapi voices. You will get varying volumes, but if you don't want to pay for a voice and still want eloquence like voices this is as close as you can probably get. Of course thats officially, if you want eloquence unoficial version, we can't stop you getting it. But obviously you can't get official support for it, you can't in fact do anythhing with it on this list, but you could unofficially make it python3 ready if you want you just can never have it officially recognised ever! Somewhere there is if you really are that sad the old flite voice but its really bad sounding. Finally as long as it doesn't crash there is speechhub but I was never impressed with it and its performance and now I have eloquence and vocaliser official as well as orpheus 3+ I have probably enough voices right at this moment. Later on I may buy neospeech from maxiaids, and if I still want voices later on I may buy the acapella voices but I think I am almost done with voices for now. One can have to many voices to be bothered with eventually anyway.

Hi Cuong (and anyone else using non-English languages who isn't on the translations mailing list). We've made a new build which should fix the translation strings. Can you please download https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjobs/ma8xoy51l6bso5l5/artifacts/output%2Fnvda_snapshot_beta-19626%2Cb62e62e8.exe and check whether Vietnamese is working correctly now?
