Re: Beeping sound when scrolling in page

You are likely hearing NVDA automatically switching to forms mode and back to browse mode.  I think that is a very bad default setting, both in terms of hearing sounds and not hearing verbal notifications instead.

In the browse mode dialog which you can open with NVDA key control b, if you want verbal notifications when you switch between modes, change the checkbox to unchecked with the space bar for audio notification of browse and focus mode, or very similar wording.

If you don't want automatic switching between modes as you move down a page, uncheck the checkboxes for Automatic focus mode for caret movement and Automatic focus mode for focus changes.

Hi, not sure if you have same experience when
scrolling in page or site of hearing beep sound
and I just thought it was for only in Firefox also with the Chrome. I am
currently using nvda 2019.2.1
As for troubleshooting,I tried to disable all the addons
but it gets the same results. Thanks.

Re: Beeping sound when scrolling in page

Are you using 2019.2.1 or are you using 2019.3 beta 1?  Alpha and Beta versions beep whenever an error is written to the log.  In many cases NVDA can try something else to work around the issue and the end-user never notices a problem, however the beep is noticeable in the beta version.

If that's what it is, the beep will be gone when the RC (release candidate) comes out.  If you are definitely using 2019.2.1, and you've disabled add-ons, you might try pressing NVDA+N, then T for NVDA's tools menu, the run the "COM Registration fixing tool".

According to the list at:  https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/nvdapy3.en.html it isn't yet compatible.  Rui Fontes is listed as the author, and Rui is fairly active on here, so hopefully we can find out.  Rui are you reading this thread?

I'm sure there isn't but if you are using any sort of competent word processor, it will have a word count feature.  I don't recall a screen-reader offering a word count feature, though it appears yours does.  I never used Dolphin.

To Quentin.

at Quentin, Hi, i have been talking with the dev of RH Voice, the addon does work with latest versions of nvda, but something quite recent has broken the voices selection ring. You can select a voice but You just get what ever default voice You had. The dev has had this reported to her from another user. so sorry if I seemed a bit snippy. I sort of thought You were just dismissing the problem and just putting it on the addon, anyway sometimes we bash an email out and we read it and it can seem harsher than intended. so I again on list say I am sorry if I seemed a bit snippy, the dev says she will take a look at it when she can for now we have to live with the bug all the best to all on this list over the festivities.

Well, the choppiness is not so noticable, but it is present and also words
get cut off unnecessarily. I think it isn't an NVDA problem but a problem
with Sapi itself because It doesn't happen with ESpeak. I have managed to
change the rate through windows but I wish the rate could be slightly faster
though, and I would not like to use the boost checkbox on NVDA itself.

Re: dropbox issue

If you use Dropbox and use the application, you will have it forced on you.  There is no way to stop the application from automatically updating when the update is sent to you.

Do you know how to open Dropbox properties in the system tray?  Open properties, tab around and set the combo box to show folders in Windows Explorer.  I don't know if it says file explorer in Windows 10.  There is no way to make the permanent change in the actual opened application itself.

I think you may be working with different versions – whilst thankfully  I have not got this new version yet I have seen others on another list complaining about the dreadful accessibility of the new DropBox.

From memory the advice there was to go into the new app settings and change view settings so that Windows File Explorer was again the default vehicle for DropBox rather than the new app and possibly use something like “Classic” view settings.

I cannot be definite as I have personally managed to avoid the new DropBox app.

This shows the importance of not assuming a solution isn't available without asking on lists like this or the chat list to be sure.  At times, people go through a lot of trouble and inconvenience because they assume that if they haven't found one, there is none.
