Liblouis and braille again
Josh Kennedy
Hi,
I updated liblouis to the latest nightly build for the free send-to-braille translator found at Http://tech.aph.org/lt And I replaced its liblouis and tables with the latest nightly build I got from a zip file on the liblouis website. The translation errors with many words such as stouthearted disappeared and is now translated correctly, with send2braille only. I would like to see a menu option in NVDA that will go out and fetch and apply the latest liblouis translator and liblouis tables and apply them to the currently running version of NVDA. This will fix braille translation errors. Josh Sent from my iPod

Re: mp3 to text

I don't know what accounts for the
discrepancy. I looked at the Switch home page and the description of the
program says nothing about converting speech to text. My program doesn't
have such an option. It is the free version.
I did a Google search for something like Switch
file Converter convert speech to text and I didn't find one mention in the first
five or six results.

The free version, as I recall, works as a full
version at the outset. You may have enough time before it becomes a more
limited free version to do what you want, but don't put it off. I don't
know how long the free period lasts but it may be only about a week. I'm
using Switch as the more limited free version and no such option exists.
You will know when you have been switched to the
free version because every time you run it, you will have to press enter to
answer a message indicating that you want to continue using the free
version.

Yes I have just repeated the experiment by loading one of my Podcasts on Speak On into Switch demo but as you say the resulting output was not really useful. So the text conversion facility is definitely there but so far for me at least the text output was not comprehensible. Mind you that may well be Switch struggling with my diction and lisp and other with clearer dictation may fare better. It is certainly accessible with NVDA though and may be people should try it first to see if Switch likes their voices any more than it appears to like mine.

I have the free version of switch and I just converted several MP3 files into text. It wasn’t accurate at all. It left out over 50% of the file content and added in words and whole sentences that weren’t even in the sound file.

When I open the free version of Switch, I don't have to open any file to see the output selections. I can tab around and see a combo box of file types such as MP3, wave, and a lot of others. There is no text conversion offered and I assume this is the selection combo box you are talking about.
We don't know the sound quality of the files or how that might affect the accuracy of conversion. How much does Switch cost to buy? Is there a full demo that runs for a period of time before the user is limited to the free version?

Apologies and thanks for the update. This facility was not in Switch when I bought it some years ago. Unfortunately my Switch activation no longer works on Windows 10 as they had a horrible habit of only allowing one install so I am clearly not up to date. Thanks for correction. David Griffith

the Switch program from nch software does indeed produce text from a sound input file. Don't know if this is available in the unpaid version. However it certainly exists in the paid for version. The facility is offered when the initial sound file is opened. The choice is made from the out options (i.e. various formats including text) when a choice is made to use the microsoft software available on the pc. I chose uk english. The conversion process took approx 2 minutes from a 4 meg mp3 to create a 21k txt file. HTH Andrea

You said that Open Audible has nothing to do with audible.com. If not, then why do I see my entire legal audible library when I run the program? It asks me to use my audible log-in and password and I am able to see everything I ever downloaded or listened to. On 1/27/2020 7:56 AM, Dale Leavens

Re: Reader mode in Chrome?

There is a web page complete option which is the
default. That saves many files in a folder. There is an option, web
page html only, which saves one page, just the page you are
reading and no other files such as image files. If you want to try
saving a page using that option, you can open it in the browser and see
if you can use Reader Mode.

Re: Using Open audible
Apparently, Libro.FM is only available to USA and Canada residents. If my affiliate link doesn't work above, try just going to the main URL and seeing if you can't access the site in the UK or elsewhere. Open Audible is an audible library manager and downloader/converter. It won't get rid of the, this is Audible! Announcement like Inaudible will, but Open Audible can download your whole library as a batch job and convert it to MP3, if desired. I like Inaudible better, but that one is very hard to find online.
