Hi Larry,

I don't know why this is, but actually the Welcome screen that first loads when you first install NVDA setting is under help.  Press NVDA + N (insert + N) for the NVDA menu.  Then press h for help.  Then move down to Welcome.  You will get the reading of the welcome screen menu that loads when you first run NVDA.  On that page is a check box to 'show this welcome screen every time NVDA starts' check box.  Check this and every time NVDA start, this welcome screen will be displayed.

Go to the nvda home page and go to the add ons section, then see what add ons are compatible. What happened is your installed a new nvda which had to have no code, and the add ons had to change. So you need to update your add ons to comply with the new and wonderful nvda. Yes, I'm bias. I love the new NVDA.

I know the screen they are talking about. it is the use modifier key check boxes, keyboard layout and the OK button? I do know how how to get that back once you uncheck the box to not show it again, maybe someone knows?

If so, open NVDA Settings, General Tab (the one that opens by default) and check the checkbox for Play sounds when starting or exiting NVDA.

I saw a message from another list member and opened the dialog from the help menu. Tabbing through it, I found the check box. If you check it again and activate the ok button, the dialog will again be shown when you run the program.

You can't assume such solutions will be available in ;programs, however.

I see no setting that will do this. Someone may know of one. But this is
important.

While you can often reverse such do not show this again check boxes with a
setting, you can't always and you should never tell a program not to show
you something again unless you are absolutely sure you don't want it shown
or unless you are absolutely sure you know how to reverse it. Just close
whatever is being shown instead. You may save trouble and inconvenience by
not activating such check boxes without real thought.

NVDA and MathML, specifically for Chemistry Markup Language [Subscripts in Particular]

Andy Keyworth

Hello,

I'd like to find an answer about if NVDA can be configured to read MathML, WHERE the MathML is being used to represent chemistry. The main issue is that NVDA does not currently seem to read the subscripts in chemical equations.

Thank you,
Andy Keyworth

Using Google Actions console with NVDA

Patrick ZAJDA

Hello,

Does someone has succeeded in finding a project ID on Google Actions console?

In fact, what can we do with a screen reader on https://console.actions.google.com ? ;)

I tried  using Google Chrome.

The project ID looks like not existing, we have unusable menus.

Oh yes, I was able to create a project lol.

If someone has already used it I am really interested.

And who could I contact about accessibility related issues on this service? There are a lot of wirk ;)

Best regards,

Hi,
From what I can gather, part of the reason is that NVDA developers didn't
get updated bits from whoever was working on Seika display driver.

Hello Joseph and all,
For Seika6 or touchme6 or whatever that finish with 6, yes, we have
troubles.
But why NVDA doesn't support anymore the Seika5 display, and we should
install the external addon?
If this is a final decision, we should update documentation, because from
NVDA 2019.3 the normal situation is that described by Ollie, where you can
read 40 characters and then you can't scroll with dedicated keys.
Perhaps, Ollie the dedicated screen reader installed something magic on
your pc, some dll, some drivers, or some little creatures that make the
dirty work!

Hello simoneand all,

Funny, I was just going to report a strange experience I've just had
with my Touchme5.

The external add-on (or driver, or whatever it was) never worked for
meThe display was seen by NVDA in Automatic, but not if I selected it
from the Seika option. I got the "Unable to load display" error.

On automatic, though, I could read the first 40 characters, move down
or up by line, but not pan horizontally.

Last week I bought ZDSR, a Chinese screen reader for Windows, which
only supports Seika display brailles.

I installed it, and my Touchme5 sorked like a clock immediately.

the strangest thing, however, was that, when I treid using with NVDA,
it loaded regularly choosing the Seika option, and now it works
perfectly well with NVDAtoo.

I can scroll, pan, use touch cursors...

Don't know what did the trick; I can only think that ZDSR installed
some driver or other that now lets me use this display all along.

I hope the devs will find a way to make Seika displays work with NVDA
again, because the braillle is very good, and it's a pity they can't
be used at their best.

sorry for the partially OT, but I wanted to report this, just in case
someone understands what might have done the trick.
