Re: Unable to update NVDA

Ok which version do you both have?  The last regular stable version is 2019.2.1.  Yes, we're normally up to .3 thinking about .4 by now, but with big changes coming in to the next release, we didn't want to rush it just to meet a time frame.

So, if you are running 2019.2.1, then you're on the latest version.  You can also check on the download page: https://www.nvaccess.org/download the first heading tells you the current version.

Regards

Quentin.

The error you gave isn't one I've seen before - NVDA doesn't need access to the Internet in order to install or run.  It obviously won't be able to check for updates if it can't access the Internet, but aside from that (and the error it gives if you try to manually check for updates is "Error checking for updates" - when it checks automatically each day it doesn't give an error if there is no connection).

If you go to the download's page in your browser and try to download, it will either load the page or not, and then download or give an error.  At this stage, I'm not even sure if you have downloaded an update or where you are at.  All I can tell you is that I've downloaded NVDA several times today to check, both using the update function, and manually, and haven't had any problems with the process.

I just installed 2019.1 and updated it to 2019.2.1 without incident.  You could either try again and see if it works this time, or you could download the current version from: https://www.nvaccess.org/download/

Downloading and installing from there will still recognise your previous version and keep your existing settings.

If you select the "people" group, you can tab to a list of the skin tones and select the one you want.

Community ad-ons process and website update: legacy add-ons

Hi all,

The add-ons people have received numerous reports of incompatible add-ons listed on community add-ons website, along with reports of at least one add-on that wasn’t maintained actively until recently. To highlight these, a “legacy add-ons” section has been created at the following page:

https://addons.nvda-project.org/legacy.en.html

For purposes of record keeping, a legacy add-on is an add-on that is no longer actively maintained and/or incompatible with recent NVDA releases. When a new add-on maintainer is found or the add-on becomes compatible with recent NVDA releases, they will return to either “stable” or “development” status depending on the status prior to legacy declaration. Some add-ons will be removed after being declared “legacy” for some time if the add-on becomes unnecessary, mostly due to features from the add-on becoming part of NVDA screen reader.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi there: When I went to check for updates. I was told there was no updates.  Is there a new update? Usually NVDA will say new update available.  I did not get a notification. So I went to the place where it says check for updates. There wasn’t any.

Hi Jonathon,

Can you please give some details about why you are unable to update?  Are you getting an error message (if so, what does it say)?

I downloaded NVDA earlier and it was working then.  It might have been a temporary issue somewhere along the line.  It's worth trying again and then if you still have problems, try to describe exactly what is happening and what response you are getting so we can help.

Kind regards

Have you blocked NVDA from accessing the internet?

I just installed 2019.1 and updated it to 2019.2.1 without incident.  You could either try again and see if it works this time, or you could download the current version from: https://www.nvaccess.org/download/

Downloading and installing from there will still recognise your previous version and keep your existing settings.

Kind regards

unable to update NVDA

Hi NVDA list this afternoon for unknown reasons winamp was invisible I couldn’t read what I had in a playlist. Was working on a radio show screening songs for play that’s why I was in winamp not station playlist. This all started today when 1.2 winamp extention updated.  I had to disable the add on now I can read things.  Our station manager can read things fine though I tried a restart, I tried a shutdown nothing but disabling the winamp extention worked so technically I don’t have it now any idea what it is?  Thanks.

Re: an annoying problem with the NVDA portable

I think I understand what you are saying, but I'm having trouble replicating it.  Have you got an example of a setup file which will behave like this please?

I'm running a portable copy of NVDA, and I just tried running a setup file, as it started reading out the screen before the secure screen, I pressed ENTER.  By default ENTER itself will interrupt NVDA reading, but even with that turned off, as soon as the secure screen appears, NVDA stops what it is reading, states "Secure desktop" and then goes silent.

If I'm reading correctly, what you're saying is that NVDA does not stop reading the previous screen, and because we are now on a secure screen, NVDA can't accept input so can't now be paused with SHIFT or CONTROL?

Also, which synthesizer are you using, and if you try a different one (you should have at least two available), does it make a difference?

Finally, is it EVERY setup program, or one particular one?

Regards

Quentin.

Hi all, I’m facing a big problem while using the NVDA portable. I know that it doesn’t work on user account control dialog. But after clicking yes to open the app, for example a setup file, the NVDA disables all the command keys, even you cannot stop it from speaking by pressing control. It only happens when you are using the nvda portable copy. Please fix the problem. Using win10 v1903 64bit

Subject: [nvda] what's wrong with start mark/end mark

Hi list ken here I was trying to forward a message to someone and I only wanted the part pertaining to them. But when I tried start mark insert plus f9 and end mark insert plus f10 twice, it only copied one letter. Did it exactly the way it should starting on one line to start mark andhit the insert plus f10 on the line I wanted and it said review copy selection to clipboard but it didn’t copy all I wanted. I had no choice but to forward the whole digest message.  What did I do wrong.
