Re: Questions

You can create a portable copy and move it or copy it wherever you want.  Portable programs aren’t installed so the answer to the question is that you can have as many portable copies on a machine as you want and they can be any compatible versions.  There is no limit to the current or older versions you can have on the machine if they are portable and compatible with the version of Windows running.  But you can only have one installed copy of NVDA on a machine at a time.

For question 1, yes, and no. You can create a portable copy of NVDA to run on a flash drive or other external device. Though with the way it's set up I don't see why you couldn't create another copy elsewhere.
As for NVDA remote and NVDA 2019.3, I believe they are compatible, yes.
Hope this helps.

Forcing NVDA Find versus Browser Find

I'm now frustrated enough to ask this question.

It had always been my belief that hitting NVDA+CTRL+F would force the NVDA Find dialog to come up and be used to search a webpage.  I often want to be able to do this when searching for controls that don't necessarily show up with a straight browser find.

In trying to work on Maria's issue, I tried several times to get the NVDA find to come up to find the Language Selector button, but it wouldn't.  I'd hit NVDA+CTRL+F and still get the Brave browser find.  This has happened plenty in Chrome and Edge Dev, too, so I know it's not "just a Brave thing."

What am I missing?  There are times I absolutely want to force an NVDA Find, and it seems that sometimes I cannot do that.

Re: Can a developer test this for me?

Maria,

There is a dropdown on that page that allows you to select English or Spanish, and I have the suspicion that if you don't do so you end up somehow "stumbling into" the Spanish language side of the site (which is still based in the USA).

When I select US along with the English radio button, it takes me here:  https://www.manpower.com/ManpowerUSA/home/!ut/p/z1/04_Sj9CPykssy0xPLMnMz0vMAfIjo8ziTfw9zDw9nA18LFyDjAwczTwDjYw9jIydPY31w_Wj9KOASgxwAEcD_eDUvPjQYP2C7LxyABr7J-Y!/dz/d5/L0lHSkovd0RNQUZrQUVnQSEhLzROVkUvZW4!/

If that direct link doesn't work for you, search for the Language Selector Menu Button and activate it.  This is where the country dropdown and language radio buttons are revealed.

Re: Can a developer test this for me?

Hi,
I cannot reproduce this. Try seeing if "Automatic language switching (when supported)" setting is on (found in NVDA settings/voice category), and if yes, try after turning it off.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: Questions

You can't run two *installed* versions on the same machine, but you can run one installed version and as many portable versions as you like, or you can run everything portable (but I wouldn't).

You can use NVDA Remote with 2019.3, but you have to get the compatible version of the download, see the NVDA Remote Access Download Page.

I used to use WordWeb, and had no problems with it and NVDA.

This was several years ago, though, so I'm not sure how accessible it is (or even if it's still available) these days.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I have just tried to update NVDA and been told that the driver for my vocaliser voices is out of date and the add on cannot be installed.
does this mean that I will have to pay again for new voices?
If this is the case, I believe that the voices can be obtained for use with any screen reader, is that correct.

Thanks for any clarification.

Kill NVDA

  • Author: Tyler Spivey
  • NVDA compatibility: 2019.2 to 2019.3
  • Download stable version

This add-on is designed to temporarily kill NVDA, so that you can recover if it freezes.

Usage

  1. Install this add-on.
  2. Copy it to the logon screen with the button in General Settings.
  3. When NVDA dies, press control alt delete, then activate the NVDA menu, Tools, Kill NVDA.

After that, press escape. NVDA restarts, but you should be able to use your computer again.

Re: Announcements in Word

Hi,

You cannot turn those off as they come from Word itself (technical: yet another UIA notification event).

Hi all,

something I've only just noticed while using Word 365 with NVDA 2019.3 is that NVDA now announces when text has been cut, copied  or pasted, and when an action has been undone.

Simple question, is there any way to turn those announcements off? I like being told when bold has been turned on or off, for example, and likewise with tracked changes, but I don't need to be told when I've copied or pasted text.

I couldn't spot anything in the user guide,  nor by looking at all the NVDA settings options, nor  by searching the posts in this list.

Thanks for any info.
