Re: Broken file list in open/save dialogs?

Gene

When you open or save a file, you can type the full path in the name edit field.  While I haven't looked into it, it makes sense that when you find and select a file to open, Windows is automatically creating the path statement as you move from file to file and follows the one of the file you select.  Most people don't know about path statements.  They are working with Windows as Windows, not DOS.

Hi Gene,
The filename field can also take a full pathname? Gees, makes you wonder
why they put all that other extra gubbins there...
I'm still curious as to why NVDA is failing in this one particular
scenario. It's clear from the logs that errors are happening somewhere.
But I think that's a subject for some private emails now, and at least
now I have temporary workarounds for the time being. Thanks all.
Cheers,
Damien.

This is based on Windows Basics and is not limited to any one program.  Since you can't see information in the dialog, have all the files go to the same place, then move them where you want using Computer or file Explorer.

For convenience, make a folder or use one that already exists off the c drive with a short easy to type name.  For example, if you are saving a file, open the save as dialog.  Type c:\sound\name of file followed by a period, then the extension.  In this example, you have created a folder called sound while in the c drive folder, not in a subfolder.  For example:

Maybe you want to know the command to invoke the app specific dictionary...

It is a shame you do not have installed the Add-ons documentation add-on...

With that you could easily know that the command is NVDA+shift+p for all keyboard layouts...

Re: Interruption

To be honest, I have noticed that laptop keyboards have gotten harder and harder to use.

Mouse or no mouse.

There is a way of typing so you don't rest your hands on the pad but a lot of keys are half keys.

I don't care for laptop boards but that could also be tdue to the fact that while at home I use a gaming board and don't need to bother about the laptop.

The only way that idea makes sense is if a mouse pad is active on a laptop or if something is moving a physical mouse connected to a computer.  In that case, turning mouse tracking off won't help to a meaningful extent.  The mouse pad must either be turned off or physically blocked by something covering it or the physical mouse must be disconnected or placed in such a way that it is no longer changing its position.  Not doing so will cause loss of focus as the mouse pad moves focus to wherever it is moved, such as to the task bar or desktop or somewhere else.  Turning mouse tracking off won't solve that problem.

Hello Afik,
If you purchased your license from teflotecnia, I think it's a good idea to contact  Rui Fontes, he is supposed to help with this. Here is his Email:
have a nice day!

Braille displays missing from "Braille Display" combo box

Hi!

I never paid attention to this until I actually had to use it with another display. Hopefully someone else has had this happen and has a fix.

I have a BrailleSensePolaris, and have to use it with NVDA. I've gone ahead and installed the driver so I can use it via USB as well (HIMS link in users guide seems broken, at least I got nothing out of that), and it refuses to show up. In fact, displays like Freedom Scientific aren't showing up either, even though I've used it with other software before. Weirdly, I grabbed a laptop at work with nothing but clean Windows 10 1909, launched NVDA, and more displays showed up on that particular computer than has been the case on the one I am currently using, even without me installing anything else except NVDA.

What gives? Not seeing HIMS at all, in fact. Display pairs fine with Bluetooth, NVDA just doesn't show it. Running NVDA 2019.2.1. I see another thread on this exact issue a year ago, and no solution was forthcoming in that topic.

I can do some of these things but I havven’t learned all of them, having no use for them myself.  Unfortunately, it appears I may not be able to help.

Subject: [nvda] Audio editors

Dear all,

we are still in process of audio editing of NVDACon sessions and realized we need help to finish the work as fast as possible.

If you are familiar with normalizing volume, labeling, removing crackling noise, removing echo and improving audio quality in general, please write me an email and I will send you files which still need editing.

Note that I will send raw flac files to avoid quality losses.

If you want to have an impression of the quality that we would like to have, here is a link where you can find the finalized files so far.
