Re: Identifying capital letters

Ricardo Leonarczyk

I used À-Þ to define the range for some latin accented characters in Unicode. It should cover most Romance languages such as Portuguese (my mother tongue) or Spanish. I'm not sure if it's the correct or standard way to do this, but it worked for my case.

excel problem

Hi All,

I am using the latest windows 10 and nvda.  I am using excel 2016.

I created a spreadsheet to track my blood pressure but when I go to enter a number nvda speaks a prior number.  Is there a setting I need to change?  Also I have nvda set to announce headers but, it doesn’t do it.  Thanks for any help.

Humanware Brailliant issue

Jonathan Milam

For some reason, the option for the Humanware Braille display driver has disappeared from the list of Braille Displays in NVDA.  I am using the latest version, and even tried reinstalling NVDA but this hasn’t helped.  It was there last week, but isn’t now.  Any ideas on how I can restore it and how it may have disappeared?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Thanks so much for that dictionary file, Ricardo. That sounds like exactly what I was hoping for ... a means of listening to the text from start to finish and hearing when there is a capital letter :)

I'll try it out tomorrow :)

Re: Identifying capital letters

Hi Giles,

Some time ago I needed something similar to what you're asking, for a very specific situation. So I put some entries in the dictionary for doing that, as you suggested in your message.
Even though for your situation I would stick to using the regex in an editor as others have already pointed out, I'm sharing the .dic file with the regular expressions, in case it is useful for you or someone else.
The link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TbJPRK37giS2xAAUSiC8WWY2QKaFDf8A

Now, it's in the way that best worked for me in the time, maybe it will need some tweaking to have it according to your taste. Also it's not the best way to do it, but it seems to work most of the time.

The way it is now, when NVDA finds individual upper case letters, it will first say "cap" and after will speak the letter, without breaking the word (inserting a space). When it finds a sequence of uppercase characters it'll say "All cap" and the sequence of letters as a whole word.

So for example, "Test" would become cap test, and "TEST" would be spoken as allcap test.

given the suggestions about regular expression searches, would it be possible to write a regular expression for NVDA's speech dictionary where a capital letter anywehre gets spoken as, for example, Home as "capital Home," or hOme as "h capitl Ome?"

That would enable me to listen from start to end, something I'm going to need to do before submission, and hear any cap;capitals as I go?

Thanks for the suggested regular expressions, Luke :)

Afternoon everyone.

I've found the problem or rather the cause of my problems.

After reinstalling my windows twice this morning I found that when I
reinstalled my NVDA addons, the buttons would just read as apply, okay
and cancel without saying button before it and the same went for the
links as well.

I uninstalled all my addons and reinstalled them one by one until I
found the one that was causing the problems. It is the AudioThemes3D
that causes my NVDA to stop telling me when I'm on a link or button,
not windows.

I, too, am interested in purchasing IVONA voices. I've used them with System Access, and they're great. But I didn't think they were available for use with NVDA. So, if someone could provide links, I'd be grateful.

Re: Section Symbol not reading

Quentin Christensen

Rae,

Mine was set to Level: All.  What that means is it will ONLY get read when the symbol level is set to All.  NVDA+P moves between Symbol levels:
None: No symbols are read
Some: Very common symbols such as % and # are read.
Most: Most symbols are read.
All: Every symbol is read.

So, to have it read at more punctuation levels, set it to something higher on that list - some, for instance.

Regards

Quentin.

Quentin,
I'm using the symbol for the word section §. I deal with documents that reference legislation. For example a document (Word, Powerpoint, PDF, etc) says "Article 6, § 3351.4."

I've looked in the punctuation formatting and I can see the symbol in there and have it set to read it always. But it doesn't. It skips the symbol all together.

Thanks,

Rae

Hi.  Press Control+escape keys.  You'll land on the search box.  Tab twice and you'll see the list of applications on your pc.  It will be something like "All Apps List: Recently added grouping".  Arrow down 3 times and you will hear the following: "Configuration editor, new", one more arrow down and you will hear "Configurator, new", and the next arrow down will give you "BenchMark, new".  Assuming that Equalizer Apos is the most recent of your installation, then you can simply choose one of these to work with it.  If not, just press the first letters of the list above and you should get there.  For simpler access, you might want to send anyone of those to your desktop as a shortcut.  Cheers!
