Resource Monitor 19.11A released
#addonrelease
Hi all,
Resource monitor 19.11A is now available. This release resolves a critical regression where Windows version information command (NVDA+Shift+number row 6) did not work if one is running NVDA 2019.2.1 or earlier on a 64-bit system. Cheers, Joseph

Re: Ms Word behaving strangely around pages
Hi Vincent,
that sounds like a not-uncommon issue and it does have a simple workaround. Go to the View ribbon and tab to Draft View. In that view the down arrow will take you to the next page. The shortcut keystroke is ALT+w followed by e. I've noticed many Google results for how to get MS Word to open documents in draft view by default, but I've never seen anybody get it to successfuly do that! It certainly doesn't work for me! The first action I do when opening a Word doc is to go to the View ribbon and switch to draft view. Hope that helps, Giles

Ms Word behaving strangely around pages
Vincent Le Goff <vincent.legoff.srs@...>
Hi everyone,
For a few days I've realized that Word behaves very strangely. I can't just press the down arrow or up arrow to go to the next page or previous page, when I'm at the end/bottom of a page. That sounded like a minor discomfort (I had to activate the application mode and use the arrow keys) but it has become a pain as I can't select text spanning on several pages. Who's the guilty one? I don't remember turning on or off any setting in NVDA, but maybe I did. Though it looks like an annoying setting in Word itself, a setting that was added more recently since I don't think I had this issue. Does anyone else experience the same behavior and, if so, have you find a workaround? Microsoft Word: office 365. NVDA: 2019.2. Settings: use UI automation in Word: no. Thanks for your help, Vincent

Re: Chromeium edge release date announced.
Well I know chromium edge will support chrome extentions, but if it will support google services like cloudprint, then who knows. Now here's the big question. What is the differences between google chrome, chromium edge and vanilla chromium. If not much bar branding, half of me is thinking to avoid all the extra tracking especially since I don't have any google devices right now, to just use pure chromium. Then again what are the differences.

The new Edge is based on Chrome. But,
considering that Chrome has most of the Windows market, I believe its about 75
percent or a little more, Microsoft will have to introduce some important and
striking new features to entice people away from what they are using.
Internet Explorer used to be dominant but Microsoft
didn't protect its dominance and I doubt it can do much to increase its
share.

Microsoft just announced a tentative release date for the new Chromium Edge browser. And, holy batman, I can't wait to replace the old with the new for good! No more beta's! the target date is Jan. 15, as said here. They just released the last beta. I hope you all download it and give feedback. Makes sense, too, because they announced their new FireFox looking logo the other day too. Edge will be far better than what it is now. Seriously. Give it a spin, and report feedback, before the final release.

Re: Other Windows that overlay part of the screen was: [nvda] Advertising Windows that overlay part of the screen

If the Skype launcher shortcut is not in your startup folders, or if it replaces itself every time you run Skype, you may want to use a program such as Piriform's CCleaner to disable unwanted applications from running at startup without having to uninstall them. (CCleaner can also delete all temp files, check the registry for leftover entries, and it contains an uninstall programs page that is a little faster than the Windows one. However, I cannot vouch for the accessibility of CCleaner.)

Overlays in chrome

Hello
I recently had to log into my verizon account and the sign-in window appeared as an overlay. I could open it or close it, but could not reach the email or password boxes. Is there a way around this? --Sile

Do you know if it has a keyboard shortcut for reader mode? I didn’t see one. Also don’t see an option to just open a blank page in new tabs. Did I miss something?

Re: Reset NVDA Input Gestures
molly the blind tech lover
There is a way to remove the input gestures you don't want anymore. For example, if you wish to create a gesture that will allow NVDA to tell you when the next alarm is, there is an option to remove the gesture after it is created. This is just one example, as I created an input gesture for the clock add-on, allowing NVDA to announce when the next alarm is. But you can create gestures for other things as well. Then if you wish, they can be removed.

So are you saying the command keys only work with the HumanWare protocol? That's good to know.

Re: Using HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA

Mine is set to HumanWare protocol, because as far as I know, automatic detection doesn't work with OpenBraille. But you should be able to set the driver to HumanWare brailliant bi in NVDA manually, and it should work. OpenBraille lags a bit, which is why I don't use it. But I can understand why you'd want to, if you also intend to use the Brailliant with narrator, since narrator didn't seem to work unless I enabled openbraille.

In fact, I didn't install the USB driver since it should work without them when using the Open Braille protocol. But, I guess I am missing something then.
