See this article for an explanation.  I think the most important sentence in the article is the one that says that despite being flagged by beta testers, Microsoft released the update.

The last update uses a lot of processor cycles.  It has something to do with Cortana.  Although the problem was flagged by testers, Microsoft released the update anyway.  Last week, they admited there was a problem after not doing so immediately.  Another botched update by Microsoft.

For some reason after taking that last update my pc started bogging down. In some cases I have to wait up to twenty seconds for a key command. I didn’t get the same result on my laptop. When I removed it it has been working just fine.

Hi.  Tried it with Jaws and NVDA, and I must say NVDA is slightly ahead in accessing the interface.  From my initial findings, it is not good with speech synthesizers because there are bleeps when, for example eloquence is speaking, especially when you are previewing text with the arrow keys.  Good for music and audio played through third party apps like Winamp or Groove music though.  I am still experimenting.  Will come up with something in a bit.  Cheers!

Hi Robert,

In fact, when you enter your start and end times, whether in 12-hour or 24-hour format, you enter only one string.

It is only then that the time entered is converted into real time format and the comparison is made.

Can you confirm that the bug is fixed, or do you still have a problem when the start time is greater than the end time?

Regarding your clock chimes, you are welcome.

Thanks.

Kind Regards,
Abdel.

Hi everybody,

I am Abdel, a collaborator for the add-on Clock and calendar.

Someone reported the following bug when using quiet hours:

If the start time is greater than the end time, the duration of the

quiet hours does not arrive until the end time.

In principle, it must be the next day that must be automatically chosen

through an internal code.

This code is in the timeInRange function, defined in the dtfunctions module.

This function has been corrected as follows, to fix the bug:

> def timeInRange(startTime, endTime, checkTime, use24hour=False):

>     """

>     A function that can be used to check whether the time range

> received as a parameter does not match a specific time.

>     @param endTime: The end time in the range.

>     @type endTime: basestring.

>     @param checkTime: The time that will allow for the verification.

>     @type checkTime: basestring.

>     @param use24hour: optional: A boolean to determine whether the

> specified times format are 24-hour format or not.

>     @type use24hours: boolean.

>     @returns: A Boolean corresponding to the verification.

>     @rtype: boolean.

>     """

>     start=parseTime(startTime, use24hour)

>     end=parseTime(endTime, use24hour)

>     check=parseTime(checkTime, use24hour)

>     if end<start:

>         end+=timedelta(days=1)

>         if check < start:

>             check+=timedelta(days=1)

>     return start<=check<end

The 19.09-dev version of the add-on is downloadable here, it is also

available by clicking on the "development version" link on the community

site, as well as with addonUpdater, in the dev channel:

It will remain in development version during a period of 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance for confirming me if the bug persists or not.

Kind regards,

Abdel.

Both Windows Core Voices and Protalker have this issue and misread the
same words the same way, which is why I thought it was something to do
with NVDA's processing of the Kanji. I'm just wondering if any other
Japanese users have experienced issues, or if there are any more
accurate Japanese tts engines? This was only something that i noticed
in more recent NVDA versions.

Any thoughts on this? It doesn't seem to matter what synthesizer I use.

Re: Synthesizer issues? And searching for one.

The system used for demos is perhaps the poorest I've seen.  A demo driver is released.  It expires on a certain date and can't be used by anyone.  So anyone who downloads the demo driver has only as much time on the driver as there is for anyone else, no matter when they downloaded it.  You would expect that a demo would work for the downloader for a certain number of days, then stop or work for a certain amount of time each time you boot the computer, ten minutes, twenty minutes, then stop.  But this driver expires for everyone on the same day, and you can't run the voices as a demo until whenever a new demo driver is released.

Hello all.

So... I'm trying to download the Nuance vocalizer synthesizer as listed
here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/ExtraVoices

Just the Nuance one, not the Code Factory Eloquence/vocalizer one.

I've tried it on two computers, one on NVDA 2019.2 and one on NVDA
2019.1. Both tell me that the Vocalizer demo has expired even though
I've never even used it before.

Anyone know what's going on?

Also, I have been looking for another synthesizer lately. Ivona. Their
website simply redirects me to Amazon Polly, so I was wondering if I can
still download it somehow, or if I can download Polly, or if I'm
completely out of luck.

Thanks.

Hi

the cable you mentioned that is serial to USb the 2 I brought come with a driver CD that also supports windows 10 that I am using now. It can be brought off ebay for under 10 bucks new zealand with free shipping. I can post a link later on today to one that I got otherwise in a shop it could be say 40 bucks new zealand then you might have to buy the converter.

the one I got was correct so no converter price on top.

Hello,

as I have tested successfully, you have 2 choyses.
the first is relatively expensive but very useful. if you can, borrow or buy also protocol converter from Optelec (support has ended) which introduce satellite displays to system as BC displays.
second is that you buy srs232 converter it means, if you have only usb ports on your pc, that you plug in usb side into pc and the other side of converter (serial called also rs232) connect with cable to alva's serial port. In this case you should use brltty.
remember: you must know on which com port a display is connected, so you can setup brltty. and if you use brltty, do not use usb connection on windows with this display.
hope it helps.

Re: stata with nvda

Marshall handheld Flax

I haven't tried this myself, but it appears that Stata is accessible if you use the "batch mode" described at https://www.stata.com/support/faqs/windows/batch-mode/ (probably option #2).

Basically, you would create a ".do" file containing whatever commands you wanted Stata to run. You create this file (e.g. "test1.do") with whatever text editor (even notepad) you please.

Then you issue a command at the cmd prompt (or run a simple .bat file), which will cause Stata to create an output logfile (e.g. "test1.log") with the output in plain text.  Again, you can use whatever text editor you like to view this output.  Then you can change your "test1.do" file and then rerun the command to do it again, etc.

Granted, you don't get all of the fancy UI features (e.g. command-completion, etc) -- but this should be entirely serviceable.

Hi, I just re-installed NVDA, getting it from

http://www.ninite.com

v19.2, but the problem persists. I think I'll have to completely uninstall and install from scratch since all of my previous add-ons etc still work as though I had not uninstalled, :) so it is complete removal time and re-install time. I'd like to use some of these SAPI4 engines, rather than the SAPI5 Eloquence since other SAPI5 engines just don't speak quick enough for my needs using human voices. :)
