NVDA Remote and NVDA 2019.3

Hi,

Has anyone been able to contact the NVDA Remote developers to inquire if they intend to make NVDA Remote compatible with changes slated for NVDA 2019.3? I ask because this add-on is quite important for many users including myself, and 'm wondering if there are any plans to make it compatible.

Any answers appreciated.

Thanks,

Addon development: how to switch focus to another NVDA object?

Samuel Kacer

Hello all,

I am currently developing an addon and I am trying to figure out how to have NVDA jump to another NVDA object.

Essentially I am wanting for when the user presses NVDA + E, the current focused object’s siblings are searched and the first one that is editable text is focused. Here is my code:

    @script(gesture = 'kb:NVDA+e')

    def script_findEditor(self, gesture):

        # get the first sibling of focused object

        obj = api.getFocusObject().simpleParent.simpleFirstChild

        while obj is not None:

            if obj.role is controlTypes.ROLE_EDITABLETEXT:

                obj.setFocus()

                return

            obj = obj.simpleNext

        ui.message('couldnt find editor.')

I am developing this for use in IntelliJ which uses Java Access Bridge GUI. It does not work as expected, if the object doesn’t have a editor sibling it correctly outputs the message, but if it does, it doesn’t output the message and nothing happens.

Some help in understanding why it might not be working is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Sam

Re: strange radial box

Until or unless the original poster makes a statement, no one knows for sure what he's talking about, nor the exact behavior he's referring to.  Pretending otherwise can be your thing, but it's not mine.

Issues like this require clarity, as well as example pages where said behavior occurs so that others can test out what happens for them.  So far, we've got neither.

I know what both of the above are, and if we're talking about radio buttons
it would be helpful to have a URL for a page where the "odd behavior" is
occurring.

Hello all

On another list, a discussion about data recovery has come up, and lead me to wonder if there are any data recovery tools that are known to work with NVDA?

I don't want to be too specific about the kinds of data recovery, to keep the question open enough to attract a variety of answers.

That said, here are two examples:

1. A folder accidentally shift-deleted from a hard drive.
2. Software that records audio to a USB stick in .wav format, but doesn't write the file length header until after the recording is done. If that software (or its host, like a Behringer X32 or Midas M32) is shut down while still recording, the data is still on the stick, but shows a zero file size because the length bytes were never added to the filesystem.

Either of those can, in theory, be resolved by appropriate data recovery and forensics software. But which such software might be accessible with NVDA?

As a side note: the person on the list is dealing with problem 1 I mentioned, and I am dealing with problem 2.

Hello again,

You can also visit webpage:

www.iobit.com

and there you can download iobit tools.

One of a tool is tool undelete data.

You must use just the tool, that is working in Nvda.

All tools are working in Nvda.

Scope of the Calibre addon

Jens Gierke

Hi,

I'm irritated about the Calibre addon for NVDA. Does it allow reading
ebooks with Calibre or is it only to make use of the converter
capabilities? Even with the addon installed I'm not able to read any
book content in Calibre's ebook viewer. There is no browse mode and also
the review cursor/object navigation doesn't help.

Best regards,
Jens

BrailleExtender: use a custom table

Vincent Le Goff <vincent.legoff.srs@...>

Hi everyone,

I posted on this list a little while ago to know how to change Braille symbols for specific characters, not that the so-called "official" symbols are not correct, but I feel they aren't pertinent in computer 8 Braille and I would like to alter (without altering for other users).  BrailleExtendr seems to allow to override the used Braille table, though it's still a new feature that is apparently not quite stable.  Sorry if I should post this question on another list, I'm not sure where.  Cn I get some info on how to do it?  My tests just don't work out of the box, I don't seem to be able to get away from the "official" tables.

Thanks,

Vincent

Re: strange radial box

Luke Davis

I think you are talking about radio not radial, and buttons not boxes. That assumed:
Are you saying that tab doesn't work for you? With many radio buttons, I often can hit either escape or tab to get out of them, once the option I prefer is selected.
If that is what you are experiencing, it is common.
