Re: Word issues at page boundaries again

If you're talking about the situation where you move to the next page, and it keeps saying the last line of the former page:
I've been seeing this in Open Office for a while now. I've not found any solution that is satisfactory, except the normal resolution to any NVDA out-of-sync with screen contents issue: maximize or restore the window via alt-space.

Open Office has several of these, most common when deleting selected text, but recently also with changing pages.

Now I will send the log in the mail not as file.

This list, as most, doesn't allow attachments because of the malware risk..  also, you don't explain anything about why anyone would want the attachment.  If you want to make something available, you can send a link to it on a service like Drop Box.

With the Weather Plus add-on installed, go to the NVDA menu, preferences

submenu, then arrow down to weather plus settings.

Expand that, then down arrow to documentation and press enter. Then open

the file entitled Weather Plus First Settings.html and follow the

directions.

Re: NVDA in pithon three?

Good question.  I haven't seen anything specifically promoting speed, but of course any time code is being updated is a good chance to optimise it.  Of course if there is anything you are specifically finding unresponsive at the moment, please do let me know (and if you haven't yet, be sure to try NVDA 2019.1 as there are a number of areas where responsiveness has been improved in this version).

Kind regards

Quentin.

Python 3 is a large update to the Python language which is not entirely backward compatible, so many parts of the NVDA code will need to be rewritten.

A small example:

In Python 2.7, you can display the word "Hello" with:
print “hello”

In Python 3, the same command is:
print (“hello”)

In that case, it is a matter of adding parenthesis ( ) but in other cases a command might need to be replaced with something entirely different.

From a user's point of view, you don't need to know or do anything.  We will update NVDA and the plan is to roll out a new version of NVDA with the updated code which shouldn't be any different for end users.  The benefit for users is that it will open up new commands in Python 3.  Also, new developers are starting to learn Python 3 without knowing Python 2.x so they won't need to learn an older version of Python in order to contribute.

Not sure, if you had it set to start at log on, once, then it can be a real
pain to stop it.
Does anyone know if this is in fact possible?
What I see is that when it has been set to log in with a password prompt in
windows , then the nnvda settings get used but when its fully loaded the
screenreader is not actually running normally it still needs a manual start.
This implies that there is, somewhere in the early start up sequence, a stub
loader that gives rudimentary screenreading before the rest of windows loads
up.

I'm guessing this may be some throw back to a time when nvda was not
uninstalled completely and has only been seen now due to some change in the
settings in windows starting up and nvda starting up.
Might be worth a look in Microsoft's autorun tool to see if you can see a
key somewhere where its running something from nvda, and removing it
manually.
I had a similar issue with Dolphin some years ago.

Is there an organization/foundation that is focused on assistive technology research and development, devices prototyping, improved device and computer software for people with disabilities.  For instance, were products like the Sunu band, Buzzclip, JAWS, NVDA, Window Narrator, Be my eyes, Aira, Seeing AI, WeWalk etc etc. funded by grants the same way something like LUXTURNA was in part funded by FFB? Its clear that Foundation Fighting Blindness excels in fundraising and fund allocation in clinical trails, medical research funding, medical prosthetic areas.

Re: Visual Studio vs Visual Studio Code

Jeffrey McFarland

I am a Web programmer and really like Visual Studio Code. I sat down tonight to try and learn how to use VS code with NVDA. First thing I noticed is VS code recognizes a screen reader is present. VS code then tell me, among a few other things, that code folding is disabled when VS code is optimized for a screen reader. I also noticed that NVDA was not reading my code tile (JavaScript). In addition, use the tab key did not navigate any of the items in VS code. I'm very new to screen readers as my vision has only recently gotten worse. With that said there is probably a obvious solution to the above issues. I also think I remember a post not to long ago in this group where someone went into detail as to why VS code intrinsically has issues with screen readers.

Re: Google Searches

Gene

You didn't get malware from Google and Google may have features the search engine you are using doesn't have.  You may have gotten malware by following a link in a search but that can happen with any search result from any search engine.  The site itself may be fine but the third party advertising on the site may be hacked.  It's a serious enough problem that it has been reported on by national media.

I don't search when signed into my Google account, which makes it much harder for google to know who is searching.  but aside from that precaution, with all the unending security breaches and all the other ways of collection information, do you use a smart phone?  Do you use loyalty cards at stores?  Do you use Facebook?  then why worry about doing Google searches?

How is accessibility with this latest release?  As I recall, accessibility with earlier versions was marginal at best.  I tried it a few years ago with both JAWS and NVDA and it was barely usable.

OE Classic 2.9 released

Below is the download link, the news page link, and their extremely poorly spelled and written release notes in plain text because it is in this weird table in the blog. 1 column, 1 row. Anyway, enjoy! And, no, I don't use the pro version, so can't tell you what features it has. This is a TB alternative, but only does POP. Not IMAP.

Re: GoldWave

Curtis Delzer

I am curious which functions of *.mp3s has Gold wave dropped? creating them, manipulating them, or batch processing them or making merged files from them?

thanks

Hi,

What I am really after is the executable name – it should be goldwave.exe, but somehow you’re seeing something else.

Note that I might drop support for GoldWave 5.70 once Python 3 version of NVDA is released (later).

Cheers,

Joseph

Jeff did you get my last post with the answers you asked for?

NVDA+control+f1 = you are currently running GoldWave 5.7

I am running the latest GoldWave, NVDA and GoldWave addon. I get no announcements when any function key is pressed nor when brackets are pressed.

Because I see a lot of questions about how to do this or that in word, with a screen reader, below is Microsoft's table of contents for all their tutorials regarding a screen reader. I'd suggest you all buy the NVDA one though because this page has some basic stuff in here.

Hi,

Just out of curiosity, you can send the log, even if this version that uses Apixu has momentarily abandoned.

Thanks

adriano

You can wait for the new version 6.0 that will return to using the Yahoo weather API.

With the Weather Plus add-on installed, go to the NVDA menu, preferences

submenu, then arrow down to weather plus settings.

Expand that, then down arrow to documentation and press enter. Then open

the file entitled Weather Plus First Settings.html and follow the

directions.
