Strange issue with Windows 10's OCR

Kara Goldfinch

Hi everyone.

I use a Komplete audio 6 audio interface, which has an inaccessible control panel that I can sort of use via OCR. However, for some inexplicable reason, I get better results when using the legacy OCR add-on than I do with Windows 10's built-in engine.

I have the add-on installed in a portable copy of 2019.,2.1, but since every other add-on I use is now supported under 2019.3.1, It seems pointless keeping this around if I can get it sorted.

So I was wondering if any  of you know why this might be. I have checked my screen resolution and  scaling; both are set to their recommended values. The app also can't be maximised.

Windows 10's OCR engine works everywhere else. It's literally just this one thing I need to use the legacy add-on for.

I'm using Windows 10 home Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.657).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kara

Also, I have installed and uninstalled the latest version of Firefox a

Can anyone advise me on these points?

I can assure you that the little that NVDA does read is still helpful. Waltr2 allows you to send files directly to your iDevice.without the need of iTunes. It works wonderfully.

In this case Jaws works with it  but NVDA doesn't read the headings.

That would be a question for Softorino, don't you think?

Virtually any screen reader you can name can work on top of Windows programs written using what are now common coding conventions.  When accessibility is bad to completely broken it's generally because they're not doing so.  Ensuring accessibility starts with the maker of any given program.

They replaced it with the side bar. You can do so much, but I replaced itunes with iMazing which is amazing.

Take care and they do have iMazing for windows but it is not that accessible.

Running NVDA on a Mac, virtualized (was Re: [nvda] Waltr2)

Jason White

While we’re in the digression, I’ve intended to ask this question for a while:

How well does NVDA run in a virtual machine on a Mac? In particular, if you have a braille display, is it possible to switch it smoothly between the Mac OS host and the Windows guest running NVDA?

I have a Mac (in fact, I’m writing this message with it), but it probably doesn’t have enough memory to run Windows virtualized. If I upgrade it at some point, though, one of my options would be to use Mac OS for most work and to run a virtualized Windows guest just when necessary. I’m well aware that VMWare, Parallels, and VirtualBox are all available for the Mac, and that Bootcamp allows you to set up a dual-boot arrangement also. There are options.
