I have not tried it in a decade, and that was under Linux no less, but I found it very inaccessible at that time. I switched to Audacity, which is also totally free.

But the nice thing about totally free software, is that you can try it for yourself and not lose anything but time.

NVDA and Ardour

Marco Oros

Hello.

Maybe You have heard about It. I don't know, if It'll be possible to make Ardour accessible with NVDA. Ardour is a digital audio workstation software, which is opensource, like NVDA. I don't know what to do to make this software accessible for the blind. So I don't know, if It'll be good to contact with developers, who hasn't any experiences with software for the blind people. Ofcourse, there is Reaper, but Ardour is totally free and It'll be maybe sometimes good option to make Ardour for free.

Thank You.

Re: Require help to convert image PDFs into text PDF documents

Luke Davis

If they really are image PDFs, then you will never get what you want.

If you use OCR software on them (others can suggest what OCR software is best these days; I don't use OCR packages on Windows), you can get some version of the text out of these.
For example, if I process an image PDF through KNFB reader, or one of the network based recognition apps, I can get somewhere between a 70 percent and 95 percent accurate recognition of the contents.

NVDA's built in OCR feature (NVDA+R) can possibly read these one page at a time, although it's not designed for full document recognition.

However you won't get links and headings and all of that. Software simply isn't smart enough to figure out which pictures of text are supposed to become those formatting and connective elements.

Also, while I could be mistaken about this, I don't believe an image PDF can have links.

Lastly, this is not an NVDA problem. You probably want to take this conversation to a general Windows list or the chat subgroup.

Re: NVDA - Missing OneCore Voices on New Laptop

Jackie

A couple things here, Bill.

1) Please go to your synthesizer settings in NVDA & press control +
NVDA key + s, or press NVDA + n > preferences > settings > speech &
then tab to & activate the change button. Either way, you should now
be in the synthesizer dialog.

2) Arrow down to "1 core voices" & press enter.

3)Tab once to voice & choose the 1 you want. Make other changes as
desired. Press ok twice.

Please let us know if that doesn't work for you, as you may need to
install the 1-core voices, & I didn't go over that here.

Re: Meaning of "out of region" and "out of list"?

Hello, Roger, & welcome to the lis.

Out of list indicates, as you surmised, that a list of items has ended.

Out of region refers to the end of a live aria region.

I think the first one means you've gotten to the end of a list.

What about "out of region" and any other similar phrases?

Re: Strange problem with NVDA and LibreOffice

Quentin Christensen

I believe so - but it's always tricky with issues like that, to know exactly where the problem needs to be addressed, so absolutely do keep raising such things here - and also do contact the other program developer - LibreOffice in this case about it as well) - the more they know about things which are problematic for their users, the more likely they are to make it a higher priority.  I think there was a linked LibreOffice issue (on LibreOffice's Bugzilla tracker) as well.

Re: question about automatic language switching in tony's enhancements addon

Hi Tony.
Thanks a lot for your answers.

I tried the automatic language switching with English and Greek.
I deleted the other languages.
It seams to work well with espeak but with one kore I get no speech.

Perhaps one kore doesn't understand just en for english and we need to specify if we want uk English, us English etc.
Probably I will have to find the codes for the different English dialects and try that way.

1. You're right; this is language code followed by regular expression for all letters of that language.

3.You can also google "regexp for greek" and compare yours to what other people are using.
4. Yes, you can delete Russian and Chinese - but it shouldn't affect anything.

Sorry if my question was asked before.
I am interested about language switching in tony's enhancements addon but I got a bit confused.

I enabled the automatic switching checkbox and I had a look at the edit language map section.

I asume the first line is the English one.
It says:
en:[a-zA-Z]
If I Understand right the first part is the language code for English.

Then in the brackets we have got a-z in lower cace and then A-Z in capitals.

Do we need the first and the last letter for each alphabet or we could put B-X for example?
How does it know the letters in between?

The language I am interested is Greek.
If I understand right I should write:
el:[α-ωΑ-ω]

Most synths won't be able to read this right I guess.
In the brackets I put the letters alpha and omega the first and the last letter of the Greek alphabet in lower and capital kace.

Assuming what I typed here is correct, can I delete the languages I don't need from the map such as the Russian, Chinese etc?

Thanks a lot.
