irc clients and nvda

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an irc client
that works with NVDA? I was using chatzilla for the longest time, and
liked how I could review the output window as well.

I tried mirc, however found that reviewing output with object nav
(assuming there's not a more affective way to do it) often didn't
contain all the text, and missed the last few lines.

Thanks for any help,

Daniel

There is reference to what you are looking for, but it will require you to manually add things to nvda.

Click here https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html and search for custom and phonetic.  Help for Braille is also in the manual.

Hi Brian and all.

Thanks for the advice.

I think it has now been resolved.

In outlook.com on the web you have to hit settings.

Scroll down to hit more settings.

type safe.

This presents options relating to blocked, safe and newsgroup domains.

Add nvda@nvda.groups.io to both safe domain and newsgroups, when you have entered this in the field type enter key after and after you complete changes press save or discard and that is it.

Whilst your there have a look at what has and has not been blocked just in case any other group address is in the blocked list.

Question about NVDA profiles and layouts

Hi folks,
So I have a question for you all, perhaps it has been asked here but if so it was way before I joined this list so here it goes.
Is there any way to switch between the desktop and the laptop layout as we switch between profiles created?
That is, suppose I have a profile created for a certain program and there I configured to use the laptop keyboard, whereas out of this profile my default layout is the desktop one.
When exiting that window of that program, would NVDA get back to the default layout of my choice? Would it actually never change because there isn't any way to do such a thing?
In case of it's the second option, don't you think it'd be interesting trying to develop an add-on that would allow one to do that if so one wants?

Re: what is bouncing nvda group

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Well yes I guess that would work, but in my case I have such a lot of rules and groups on this account, changing it all is just too much. I occasionally do contact my isp, but they never seem to actually reply though sometimes well most times they fix the blacklist in a week or so. I'm suspecting it is almost an automatic process, and it gets re enabled after some time has elapsed.
Many isps will not engage with users about how they bounce or spam mark emails, as they say its going to put information into the hands of people who might reveal it to the spammer.

This is also why sometimes messages arrive out of sequence as they seem to have some kind of delay on some emails.
Thorny problem and one I suspect will be with us forever on and off.

I wonder if the problem is more complicated or perhaps I should say, more difficult to resolve. Some messages must be getting to the list and from the list because the person has been participating in threads. So I wonder if there is a technical difficulty that will be difficult to figure out. Perhaps the problem will resolve itself over time.

Of course, there is no reason not to contact the provider but I wonder if it would be better to get a GMail Account and use it for Groups.io mail. Off and on, a message from a list ends up in spam but not often and I haven't had a bouncing problem since I started using GMail for Groups.io mail many months ago.

Re: can't select list item in schrome with nvda 2019.1 beta

Adriani Botez

Hello,

I think there seems to be a bug indeed. Thanks for reporting. I have done folowing:

  1. Accessed the link and typed my e-mail address
  2. Right next to back button there is a list where we should choose an item, I tried to choose an item.

Actual: in Firefox it works only when pressing nvda+space to activate focus mode manually, then press tab once or twice to land on the list, then oyu can use up and down arrow to choose.

In crhome the browser crashes and NVDA shows several errors in the log file.

Expected:

NVDA should atuomatically switch to focus mode when pressing enter on the list and with lat+down arrow we should be able to expand the list and to choose an item.

In Chrome the application should not crash

I will open two issues on github accordingly.

Best

Subject: [nvda] Threaded emails view in Outlook

Hello all and especially Brian Vogel,
I was trying to use Outlook with Threaded list of emails view. Brian Vogel gave me advice that I should navigate through this list using
Control+Up and Down arrows to prevent the threads from autoexpanding.
That works at first glance, but here is the problem I ran into. Supposed I am initially at the very first email in the list. I press Control+Down a few times until I find the right email that I want to open. Suppose that's just a single email, not a thread. However, when I press Enter on it, Outlook would open the very first email in the list, not the one that I selected using Control+Down arrow. It feels like there are two types of cursors there and Control+Down is moving the wrong type. So how to open the right email? Is there perhaps a keystroke to sync these two cursors?

I was trying to do it naive way - Once I'm on the right email with
Control+Down, I would try to press up and then down, but then again,
because the threads are autoexpanding on me, pressing up and then down doesn't necessarily bring you to the same email. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks
Tony

Alexandre,
I'm not quite understanding what it's about.
I mean, I went to the site, filled in the form with my email, alright, nothing wrong, weird or whatever at this point.
However it's after this step that things become odd. After activating the "próxima" button, I find myself into a page with a few links, a edit field and a submenu (or so NVDA calls it).
Well I just don't know what to do at this point.
Have you ever tried this site with another browser to see if there is any different behavior other than this one?

Re: nvda on and off short cut.

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Well if you go to profiles and read the bit in the manual about them it is really easy to do. If I try to explain it, I'll make a hash of it, but for example you can set any of the preferences inn the preferences sheets specifically for the application which is running, ie in the foreground when you are doing the settings and use a nicely descriptive name for this in the profiles dialogue. This is why profiles is not part of the preferences part of nvda.

Unless you just want to suppress speaking of course, which still leaves the
program running, just not talking.
Another way if you want to stop it for specific programs is to use a
profile and turn the speech off when that program is running. Of course if
it accesses, say Explorer it will start to speak when it does so, this can
be handy or a menace depending on what you are trying to achieve.
